Jersey Meadow Golf Course
About
Once home to one of the world's largest herds of Jersey dairy cattle, the site is now the Jersey Meadow Golf Course. The course has evolved and changed dramatically over the years, including a major renovation in 2004 that replaced all the greens with Bermuda grass. The layout is routed through groves of mature oaks, providing a secluded feel to most of the holes. The golf course has a classic design that is still a fair test even by modern standards. Water comes into play throughout in the form of ponds, lakes, and winding creeks that weave through the holes. The 14th is a particularly memorable water hole with a creek all along the left side leading to the island green. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and the greens have subtle but tricky contours.

Garbage Greens
Over the years, I have seen a number of golf courses alert golfers to issues at a particular course before purchasing a round on-line such as recently punched greens, poor greens or part of the course closed resulting in playing the same 9 holes twice, etc. When playing Jersey Meadow this past Sunday, the greens were in TERRIBLE condition with large dead spots, re-sodded edges the greatly impacted play and lack of mowing which resulted in slow bumpy putts. Additionally, pace of play was super slow (even for a weekend) and there was not near enough water stations for summer golf in Houston. I continue to want to give this course a shot, but will not return. No matter how good the GolfNow Hot Deal is for this track, avoid it all costs.
What a Rip Off. Garbage Greens
I regret not taking pictures....greens are pure garbage. Numerous times we had to move our ball out of the way of sand and crater pits in the middle of the greens in order to putt. Nice. Nothing like hitting a great iron shot and then moving your ball 10 feet to the left or right just putt it on decent grass. Also, the edge of many greens have been expanded outward leaving newly sodded grass that someone made no attempt to make level and even. I'm very upset that they would even consider charging this much for a round knowing how bad the greens are. They didn't care either but they do care about building a new club house. We eventually spoke to the pro shop and said they would talk with the Manager. Well, whoop de doo. I won't be back and will warn all my golf buddies about this place to stay far way. Too many other courses out there that have much better experience at much better prices than this.
To the folks at Jersey Meadow, get rid of your bait and switch policy and do your customers a favor by posting on GolfNow that your greens are in a total state of disrepair so golfers know ahead of time. Thank You!
Sad Course
I play this course almost weekly and used to love it about 6 months ago. It was in great condition at that time, but it seems the course has prioritized the fancy new club house rather than making the course playable. The tee boxes need work, most are uneven and make it so tough to find a good place to tee off. The fairways were good! (Only good part about the course). And please don’t get me started on the greens… the greens used to my favorite part of the course. They were mostly solid and rolled pure, but it seems like the maintenance staff has completely let them go. The greens are awful, more sand/dirt than grass at this point. I hate that the course has seemed to forget about what product they actually sell and instead try to wow you with a pointless clubhouse. I hope they turn things around because I really do enjoy the layout and complexity of the course.
Work on Course Paying Off
Good course that is in good shape. Pace of play is good. Bunkers need a little work but considering the rain Houston has been getting they aren't bad. Restaurant has good food and beer selection. They've invested money in this course and it shows! Good course and highly recommended.
Course is in bad shape
The greens: Really bad. They have so much sand on them! That you can’t get a true roll. Very slow and just Un-puttable. It should be posted online somewhere so players can know what they’re getting before they pay!. Not fair.
The practice putting green: It was closed.
The tee boxes: They were so bad! Ball above my feet on some, ball below my feet on others. Uneven lies on the box is brutal. Also the tees were so hairy it felt like I was hitting off the fringe.
Overall it’s not worth the money.
It needs so much work by the crew to be playable. I will try it again at the end of summer and see if it’s any better.
Temporary greens everywhere
The temporary green situation is less than ideal and has been for a long time. It definitely make you question the green fee. The fact that you are not made aware of the fact that you'll have to deal with the greens like that is also not contributing to an enjoyable round of golf. The new facilities / Clubhouse are VERY nice! Well done there. The staff is also accommodating and nice.
What good are all the renovations?
What good are all the renovations if you still haven't figured out how to drain the course? Was this not one of the reasons for all the construction. I understand cart path only but to have to fish your ball out of standing water on every hole and hope you can find a place to move it too... There were 3 temporary greens in the first 4 holes because they had lost the greens. We only played 4 holes. If you're going to spend that much money on a course why not hire someone who knows how to grow grass on the greens? I have played this course for many years and sure hope to see it in better shape again some day.
Under Repair
So many reviews say greens are horrible. That is a given. They are redoing them. If playing on 6 temporary greens is bothersome. Do not go. The course was a nice value for the money. Do not pay on golf now. The course will discount the round as they did for me for the temporary greens. The future is very bright here and heading in the right direction. I will go back. The staff was awesome. Everyone was helpful.
Recommend you take a hard pass on this course until…
Greens are in terrible shape. At least 4 greens are displaced. Fairways are poor to fair. Recommend you play elsewhere until they spend money on the course versus the new club house.
Great Course
Been here a few times. A few of the greens are currently under construction, but that just shows they are working to continue to improve the course. New Pro Shop is open with two new simulators.
New clubhouse. Poor course
The shining light about this course is checking out the new clubhouse. There were 4 or 5 temporary greens on the course which they don’t tell you prior to playing. Putting green is not usable either. Really wish they would get a greens person to fix the problems there.
3 temporary greens and others that are having work done as well. Course is discounting the rates at the clubhouse to make up for conditions.
Maybe a Second Try
For the price & Sunday golf, it was worth the drive in trying out a different course for your short game.
Can’t wait until the course finish remodeling, so I can be more rewarding on ratings.
Greens are a work in progress
The greens are in rough condition but they are feverishly work to rectify. There are three temp greens, but they are very upfront about it and gave a discount on regular price.
New club house is beautiful and would have been rated higher when fully completed. Staff is very accommodating and friendly.
When they get the greens recovered and the rest of construction done, it will be one of the finest courses for the money in Houston area.
