About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Derrell Witt had a hand in many of Carlton Gipson's successes, including Houston-area tracks like Greatwood, and the impressive renovations at BraeBurn Country Club. Pine Crest was his first solo project, and he was able to use his background in landscape architecture to move over 250,000 cubic feet of dirt tocreate 13 lakes that form the basis of this semi-private course. The water helps the crew keep it in lush condition compared to other courses in the area.
The best hole is the last one, playing 571 yards into a narrow, tree-lined fairway with an approach over water to the green.

Run down mess
They have completely neglected the grounds in front of the clubhouse...and the course is more of the same. It's almost impossible to take a divot and appears to be the home of "slow-play" golfers! I will NEVER pay to play this course again.
Good place to learn
For the money, this course was as expected. Fairly forgiving, which was good for my son, who is just learning to play. The pace was good and we never waited or fealt rushed.
It was a hot day, and there was no water in the coolers for the front 9, but once we made the turn, they were full and plenty of ice. Would recommend downloading a golf app to show satelite images while playing. There are some tough water locations.
Good value. Good condition too. Lots of trash on the course though.
Played twilight for $25 which was nice. Sandtraps were full of water but it had just poured the hour before. Tee boxes were nice. Greens were nice too. Clubhouse was pretty tired looking and the course had a lot of trash in the ponds and in the woods. Would be a nice course if they cleaned up the excessive trash and filled in the divots in the fairways. Good value for the money though.
Tight fairway and fast greens,
A fun challenging course that will test your shot selection. Greens have always been in very good shape and the fairways are coming around nicely.
Not bad for the money
This courses could use some maintenance but it's not a bad course for $20. There are some challenging holes with water and bunkers in play on almost every hole. They need to also update the yardage markers and put the distances on the tee boxes.
Good public course conveniently located in Spring Branch area.
Well-maintained, decent-sized greens with good variation in pitch and hole placement. Some challenging water hazards, including a couple that break up fairways and require some precision off the tee. Good for a beginner like myself but interesting for better golfers as well. Can't beat the price and location.
This course has lost it's value
This is the first time I have played this course in a year and to my surprise it has been completely destroyed. I used to come here all the time because it was fairly well kept and relatively inexpensive but now it's just horrible. And on top of all that their rates have gone up. They just lost a customer.
Great bang for your buck, but play is a little slow
This couse has very reasonable green fees, and it's maintained well. Overall the course is very enjoyable to play. I think the marshals could do a better job managing the pace of play.
great course, but
great course but we were playing behing some older gentlemen. very slow..
Good course for the Money, Friendly staff
Hard to beat the value in the area that is open to the public. This was my second time to play here and I have been very happy both time and plan to play again in the future.
A reasonable course!
This course is very reasonable for begineers, but it always is full and it takes a long time to play.
Good layout with well-maintained smallish greens for a great price!
Pinecrest is a municipal course in North Houston that has been well-maintained over the years. The fairways are pretty generous and are well maintained. Several holes have some length and excellent dog-legs. Overall this is a good course for a great price and an overall fun golfing experience!
good green condition
Near from downtown. good pratice area. reasonable price. everythings good on this saason. especially bunker is very good maintained.
Average course
This course presents a good challenge on a few of its holes, although they are not long, you just have to place shots in the right places. Plenty of trees and water on the course to easily lose strokes. The greens are just a little bumpy and as usual not everyone repairs ball marks, but they weren't all over the greens.either. The seventh green presents a difficult challenge if the pin is placed on the back middle portion of the green, as everything slopes down & away, I three putted. The course does need attention, as there are hard pan bare areas and tree roots barely visible, which can lead to possible injury if not seen. Not the best course, but also not the worst, at $15 rnd. I'll play it again. hope this helps.
course is in good shape
The course is in good condition and the greens are nice...a bit slow but in good condition. As long as you don't get off the fairway you have grass. There will be hard-pan off the fairways.
Astatically this course needs help
Fairways, sand traps and cart paths need attention. Lots of standing water.
Fun weekday course at a great price!
Great for a quick round on a nice traditional looking course with a combination of challenging and opportunity holes. Liked the discounted weekday rate. Keep them coming!
Course was in better-than-average condition.
The fairways and greens were in good condition. However, the tee boxes could use some care.
This course has a great layout and convenient location to downtown Houston
The course has a challenging layout, the greens are in good shape and are usually fast but the rest of the course could use more maintenance. It is a good course for the money.
Enjoyable, but give it some love!
I have played once a week exclusively at Pine Cres for the last three months. PC has so much going for it: I enjoy the challenging tract, friendly staff, adequate practice facilities, nice sand in greenside bunkers and some of the sweetest greens in the city. Great value at GolfNow rates. Here's the problem: NOBODY RACKS THE BUNKERS OR FIXES THEIR BALL MARKS! I've played daily fee courses for years and I understand that some will not rack, fix ball marks or sand divots. But, this is such a huge problem that I think the course should step up and rack the green side bunkers at least 3 times per week. My goal each round is to leave any course I play in better shape than I found it. I rack bigger area after a sand shot, I fix at least four ball marks per green, and I sand the divots in the fairway and tee box. Please be considerate of other players and give it some love!
