About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
Derrell Witt had a hand in many of Carlton Gipson's successes, including Houston-area tracks like Greatwood, and the impressive renovations at BraeBurn Country Club. Pine Crest was his first solo project, and he was able to use his background in landscape architecture to move over 250,000 cubic feet of dirt tocreate 13 lakes that form the basis of this semi-private course. The water helps the crew keep it in lush condition compared to other courses in the area.
The best hole is the last one, playing 571 yards into a narrow, tree-lined fairway with an approach over water to the green.

not bad at all for under $40.00
It is a very nice course! The putting greens are worth playing here. They are very challenging with a lot of break to them!
Average golf course
I called ahead and told them I had made a reservation with GolfNow and was there any way I could get out earlier because I had a meeting pop up unexpectedly. They said no problem at all. I got there and it was another story. They gave me a really hard time. Thank God I remembered the guy's name I talked to on the phone so they let me go out. He was the manager by the way. Course was OK, some fun holes but the fairways have lots of bald spots. The greens were in fair shape. Would have given 4 stars if I hadn't encountered the problems in the Pro-Shop even though I had called ahead. Worth the GolfNow price but NOT the regular Greens Fees.
Nice tract and reasonable green fees
Nice design with adequate practice facilities. Greens rolled fairly true, but must have repaired at least 6 ball marks per green. No excuse for that! One area of improvement would be to mark the yardages clearly on cart path and/or the fairways. I bet it would significantly increase the pace of play. Must give the bunkers a thumbs up...nice sand! I can play twice here for what I've been paying for one round at other courses in Houston. Keep up the good work, Pine Crest!
Too many slow pace players; Marshall does not seem to care
A round of golf taking more than 5 hours to too much to handle.
- I am normally ok with bad golfer
- But slow players is what I can't stand
This course allows players to play at what ever pace. It's ridiculous for a round to last more than 5 hours. After 16th, we can't take it no more and left.
There were two 4 some groups in front of us, and there empty holes ahead. We basically have to wait for every single shot.
It's hard to believe, but after 13 holes, the 4 some in front of us decided to break into 2 groups. That make thing even worst.
Very nice track. Good course condition. Very friendly staff.
Pine Crest is a great value and an enjoyable course layout. The staff is great. Nice practice putting green. Pitching green. Good practice range. Fun round.
Not in good condition
Fairways and greens were very hard. Lots of areas without grass. Sometimes impossible to play
Odd Man Out
WHile they have a course starter, they did not line me up with a group. So...I teed off as the 12:06 tee time, stuck between a foursome and a fivesome. I left after six holes, got a rain check. THe pace of play was very slow and the tee boxes look like the moon, fairways ok, greens good. While I like the layout of this course, I will be very careful in the future to only come out during a non crowded time and with a group.
Course is very average.
I will not come back or recommend this course to a friend because for the same price you can play courses within 15 minutes that are nicer, has less people, and doesn't have so many holes along a busy road.
A bargain for the price!
Course is not difficult to play and very afforable.
I liked the windscreen for the golf cart as it was very cold when we played.
Defintely will be back!
Good golf value & convenient city location
Conveniently located Pine Crest is a course I've played several
times. The course is in fairly good shape. The fairways need some attention, but with lack of rain, you get some bare spots. This course shines on the greens, somewhat fast & true, great condition. From the blue tees it is all be difficullt for high handicappers, from the whites it can be a fun round for scoring.
the course is fairly good
i like the course overall, the fact that they open pretty much everyday except there is tornado warning and stuff
Soild course for the price
Played this course in December and it was in pretty good shape overall. The fairways are flat but narrow in spots to keep the course challenging. As stated before the sand traps need some work. Many were washed out and didn't appear to have sand in them at all. On the plus side the greens were some of the best kept greens i have played on all year in the Houston area. They were well cared for and had lots of undulations to keep the putts interesting. I would play here again given its location and cheap rates.
Nice and challenging
Nice fair ways and decent greens, challenging course and nice staff members, sometimes over booked so the Marshal trys to rush you.
Not Bad for the Golf Now price
I played on a Friday for $23 with a cart. Course was average. Fairways not the best with some thin spots. Greens were above average ball rolled smooth. Has a lot of water so stay dry and you'll have a nice round. I prefer walking but walkers are not allowed. Enjoyed the round anyways!
Challenging course in good condition.
Course layout is great. Challenging. Ample water, trees and sand traps. Rough was playable. Only complaint was standing water in some of the sand traps.
The course is in good shape and it is maintained. Staff in the club house is cordial, however the staff on the course was very friendly and helpful.
This course is moderately in difficulty and in several holes the water is in play. The greens are in excellent shape and they were moderately fast. The deal that I got from Golfnow was very good and I do recommend this couse to anyone.
I love Pinecrest but it needs work
I play Pinecrest at least once a week. It is one of the best values in Houston. The design and difficulty make it a good challenge for the average to good player. It is usually in decent condition although in December 2012 the bunkers need serious attention. I played several days ago and noted that many of the bunkers had literally "hundreds" of footprints and divots in them. They were so bad, they were unplayable. If I was in a bunker I had to rake a patch, place my ball and play. I rake my area plus some extra whenever I am in a bunker but I cannot be the only one raking. When I returned later in the week and played again, the bunkers were still in the same condition! I spoke to the desk guy the first time but didn't bother the second time. Pinecrest needs to maintain the course before it gets a reputation as a poorly maintained course.
Great contour of greens
At full price I would be reluctant to play Pinecrest under current maintenance conditions. I have played this course on numerous occasions. Bunkers have never been maintained to a standard that one would expect for the price of green fees.
Current condition of bunkers should be considered unplayable, consider stating a free drop from area for a group rule. Course is challenging but fair, although several holes have water that runs across fairway that is not visible from tees and will reward a good tee shot with a huge let down when the water does come into view. Yardage is difficult to determine based on course markings. Starter was informative and friendly. All in all a good course to play within the city limits of Houston.
The greens were recently sanded and very hairy. Very many unfixed ball marks on the greens. Fairways either hardpan or mud.
I used to play this course when they first built it and it was very nice. I have played it twice in the last year and I would not invite anyone to play it until they fix their issues. Even the starter was telling us that the ownership really doesnt want to spend any money to make the course better. It has a great layout for most anyone, but the fairways were either over watered or neglected of water for some time. The greens were pimpled with ball marks and people dragging their feet. The driving range is an absolute joke. They have some mats to hit off of that have been there for years and not kept up with. It is ashame, because this course used to be really nice and has the potential to be that way again.
Greens and fairways are in great shape right now.
Great golfing at this city course. Each hole is challenging, but not impossible to par. Number nine hole is always difficult, but such a thrill when you par it!
