Golfer Reviews
This Golf Course Is Pathetic
The first and most important thing everyone should know is this isn't truly a legitimate golf course. This "course" felt like someone's farm that was poorly turned into a driving range and small par-3 course. There are no golf carts to drive at this course and only about 6 push carts existed, so if you like walking and carrying your bag, this place is for you. The biggest problem with Melrose is the conditions of the course, especially the greens. On pretty much every golf course in the world the greens are nicely cut and maintained to allow for a nice putt, but at this course the greens are sand pits. That's no exaggeration, I'll attach a video below so you can see for yourself. Never before have I played on a course where the greens are full of sand, weeds, and random patches of grass; we were baffled that all of the holes were in poor condition. Not only were the greens poorly maintained, but so were the tee boxes and fairways.
The owner has several dogs that he clearly lets run around the course because there was dog poop in several spots along the course. Imagine your ball long in that? Or you step in that with your cleats? Absolutely disgusting. Throughout the course it looks like there used to be some water hazards but they're now drained and have become mud pits that are filled with bugs, dead animals, and an awful stench, especially the one at hole 17. The garbage cans throughout the course are filled to the top with beer cans and the trash definitely hasn't been taken out in weeks. Overall, the entire course is horribly maintained and the owner should be embarrassed to take people's money.
Another thing that should be noted is that this place doesn't accept credit cards, only cash, which seems a little skeptical but I'm also not surprised. For $10 a person I didn't lose sleep over this place but it needs to be vastly improved. It's a joke of a golf course and I wouldn't recommend it unless you and your buddies are drunk and looking for an open space to hit some golf balls.
Greens are deplorable
Great course to go practice your wedge game. Small greens help you focus on your wedges and targets.
However, do not bother to bring a putter. The majority of the greens were sand (yes sand), some weeds, and fire ant mounds. We were repeatedly bitten by fire ants as we attempted shots on the green, and while I’d be generous in a review for a $12 course, this was not putting by any stretch of the the imagination. We all did better using our wedges to bleed the ball then our putters
Wedges and Chipping
Only reason I would head here would be the range and if I wanted to get some walking in along with wedge and chipping practice. This isn’t Augusta national and the greens and tee boxes are sub par but the wedge shots and tight greens make it a quick walk (played it thurs at lunch time) and target practice outside of the range. If you want quality this may not be your first choice but if you want something quick and work on diff yardage wedge shots then spending the $10-$12 is reasonable.
No one was there!
Course is terrible looking in a bad neighborhood. No employee was even there for my tee time to play.
You get what you paid for on this course.
Cheap place to play. Didn’t know until got there that they only take cash. Most the greens are not in good condition. The greens were covered in sand. Nice driving range. Does not sell any food or drinks there.
