Golf Club at Cinco Ranch
About
Carlton Gipson designed the Golf Club At Cinco Ranch in the early 1990s. It's a long golf course that features an ocean of water impacting play on 16 of 18 holes. For the most part, the holes are straight and open, with minimal trees framing the paths to the greens. The greens are unique because of the unusually shaped bunkers that create very different short game challenges from what one normally finds. One of the best holes is no. 4, a 557-yard par 5 that features an approach shot over water into an elevated green. In addition to the water, the green is fronted by a bunker that is at least 10 feet below the hole. This requires a phenomenal, blind bunker shot for an up-and-down.

One of my favorite courses! I learned to play on this course back in 2002..always honored the men and women in the military, police, and firemen.....been one of favorites ever since. Only things that changes over the years is the staff and management. I don't know when they stopped giving military discounts, but I think it sucks. This course is really long. I recommend playing from the white tees for your first round... At some courses you will be able to play from the blue tees...not this course. At almost 7000 yards, you will get all you can handle. The greens have a lot of illusions . Great course ...have fun!
Very nice course
A good course for all levels of golfers.
Fast greens at this course are stupid
Not the first to slate this course for the speed of play. 5 Hour rounds seem to be the norm. Some of the fault I would say rest with the players who think they are better than they are (don't we all) but mostly I think it is down to a combination of greens that slope severely in a lost cases and the so called American fascination with fast greens. I say so called because as anyone taken a poll. On this course the speed of the greens considering the severity of the slope on most greens is what I term stupid and completely ruins a nice round of golf. Wise up greenkeeper - the people that come to play at your course are not pros and don't really enjoy 3 putting from 8 feet. So as far as rating this course as a *, well 5 hour round and greens the vast majority of us amateurs can't handle, I'm being generous.
this course is really good
I will play here again I like the layout and the location
Always a pleasure
As always, Cinco Ranch doesn't disappoint. Even after more than an inch of rain the day before and being CPO, the course was in excellent condition. Greens were smooth and fast, especially for this time of year. Highly recommend get out to Cinco Ranch and teeing it up.
Great Value for a Nice Course
This course is always well kept, got a great deal on Golf Now so I couldn't pass it up.
Longest Round Ever
At one point there were 4 groups on a single hole. Had to wait 15 minutes plus on every tee box. The round itself took close to 5 hours.
Never again.
Cinco
Course had taken on a lot of water due to rain. Greens rolled well but bunkers needed to be serviced .
Nice, challenging course
The course poses some nice challenges with the placement of bunkers and hazards requiring you to lay up.
Unfortunately, pace of play ruined the round somewhat. I had a tee time for 11:57, but for some reason, the starter called my name about 30 minutes before. Four holes later, we arrive at the tee box and are waiting behind two other groups. For the rest of the round, we were consistently on the heels of the group in front of us and having to wait 5-10 minutes to tee off.
The greens were recently sanded, so they were pretty fast. The fringe is rather thick and was difficult to putt out of. The fast greens and the thick fringe really made it impossible to putt from the fringe.
The bunkers were in decent shape but a lot of the surfaces were pretty solid. In fact, one of the guys that I was teamed up putted out of the greenside bunkers a couple times.
First Time
I paid in full online for 18-hole golf, cart, GPS, and practice balls. But the pro-shop did not honor the practice balls. Do not understand why this happened.
Great conditions
Overall good value for the money. Fairways fine, greens fine, a little slow pace due to being very busy
Cinco Twilight Play
Pace of play at times painfully slow....but still an enjoyable course to play for all levels of players
Greens are super
Great greens. Good pace enforced. Need to better maintain Fairway
Cart Broke Down
The front nine was great - no one around and the greens were in great shape for August in south Texas. Once I made the turn my cart started to act funny. It finally quit about 100 yards from the 10th green - for those who haven't played here it's about a half mile from the club house and it was about 106 degrees outside. I tried calling the clubhouse for about 30-45 minutes to no avail. It turns out they were having a medical emergency at the clubhouse and no one was managing the phones. After walking about halfway back a foursome picked me up and took me back where the guys inside gave me a full refund for my round. I only asked for 1/2 off instead of rain check because I was just visiting Houston and wouldn't be back - staff was very accommodating.
Cinco Ranch
The course was fun to play and challenging from the back tees. It was a really hot day, so the course wasn't as packed as I would expect on a normal Sunday afternoon. The staff was very friendly all around from the starter to the cart girl, who was by every three holes or so. The course itself was in good shape considering how hot and dry it has been. Greens were smooth, fast, and firm. Some other areas including tee boxes were a little more dried out than you would like to see, but again, it has been incredibly hot and dry as of late.
Great Course
Great course. Greens were in real good condition as were the fairways. Worth $50 but I paid less. Would gladly play again.
Great shape
The greens are in great shape
This might be the only course in Houston area right now that your approach shot will plug if you hit your shot short of the green. Yes they are watering heavy and the condition of the course shows it. Great job by the Greens Keeper

While i love the course and prefer faster greens, i do have other criticisms of the place. poorly managed and marshaled. 'Tis true that most of your average weekend golfers and high handicap golfers struggle on fast greens. i stay away from golf courses on the weekends because of the 5 hour rounds.
