Golf Club at Cinco Ranch
About
Carlton Gipson designed the Golf Club At Cinco Ranch in the early 1990s. It's a long golf course that features an ocean of water impacting play on 16 of 18 holes. For the most part, the holes are straight and open, with minimal trees framing the paths to the greens. The greens are unique because of the unusually shaped bunkers that create very different short game challenges from what one normally finds. One of the best holes is no. 4, a 557-yard par 5 that features an approach shot over water into an elevated green. In addition to the water, the green is fronted by a bunker that is at least 10 feet below the hole. This requires a phenomenal, blind bunker shot for an up-and-down.

Great shape
Played during the week mid afternoon. played in 3 hrs 15 mins. Greens rolled suberbly
long with fast greens
Great lay out and one has to hit into the right location or easily lose some strokes off your score.
Starter needs to pair people up
The pace of play was too slow, we played the front 9 twice because we had a foursome, followed by a 2some, a 3some , a 2 some, another 2 some, and then a 3 some. The starter should pair 2 2somes so the course can move along. By not pairing people we waited 4 groups on a particular par5. Shameful. I have witnesses at least 2 other times in this course. The Marshall just rides around and does nothing to help, and when you call the pro shop, they don't care. Very bad.
cinco is nice
Course was nice, not many out since it was mid morning. There was how ever general maintenance that was occurring doing the game that caused several hold ups. That was not enough to make the day a bad one. As always friendly staff and a very nice facility
pricey but nice.
for $78 a round, I'd like to see a little nicer conditions, but the course was in really good shape overall. I'd play the course again, but not until the fall when the rate & temperature both drop a bit!
This course is too crowded during regular time
This course is too expensive in a regular time for the conditions
Birthday round.
Course was in great shape. Greens keeper knows what he is doing. Course is tuff and not very forgiving off the fairway. Watch out for cross wind around the ditches. Love the lay out and elevated green. It's a must play course in Katy, Texas.
Carts are sweet
I came and played by myself and the carts had gps on them that showed you every hole and keeps your score after finishing the hole, the course was nice and the greens were great
Great Public Course.
First time I have played at Cinco Ranch golf course. I have lived in Katy for 3 years and always believed this was a private members only course. The facilities are great and the condition was that of a pro course. Very impressed and will definately be back again soon.
Course is in great shape !
Course was in great shape for this time of year.
Facility is very well kept .
Staff was cordial at best.
Would recommend ...fun course .
Cinco - mid July 2014
Course is in it's best shape ever. Greens, Fairways, traps are in top condition and very plush. after living in the neighborhood and playing this course for over 20 years, I know it and it's in great shape. The greens finally have a little bite in them as the downhill, down grain putts will make you scratch your head sometimes (as they were intended) without having to shave them short. Kudos to the Greenskeepers and staff. And Thanks to Al in the starter's shack for the friendly advice.
Straightforward and in Good Shape
Not a bad place to play if you can get a round in at twilight. Personally, I think the rates are high for non-Cinco residents but a $30 rate at twilight should leave you plenty of time to get a round in.
Course is fairly wide open and the staff has it in good shape. Fairways and greens were lush and in good shape. Played through a single on the front 9 and then caught a twosome on the 18th so it wasn't crowded at all though I've seen it much more occupied.
Not much to see from a visual standpoint and not any overly tricky holes but a few blind spots require lay ups. GPS on the cart helps greatly with this though.
Cinco
Nice place. A little dated in regards to the facility, but clean. Didn't get much help fading the pro shop and then getting a cart. Wasn't a bad experience, but a little clumsy.
Best condition in years
Greens are still somewhat slow, but that is good for this time of year. Fairways were excellent. There was work being done on bunkers. I was very happy.
Rough Greens
Sand traps very loose. Greens were quite rough. Fairways in great condition and with a good tee shot, reaching the green in regulation was very doable. Several 3 puts do to green surfaces, but overall not a bad round.
Good course
Good shape, bunkers weren't filled yet only issue but just wrong day. Grounds were kept in good condition. Carts have gps
worth to play
Having GPS on cart and giving instruction for any caution such as blind spot, so it was supportive for the first time player.
Fun Day
The coarse was in good shape, as others have said in their reviews you need some course knowledge to have fun. There are many blind shots which is not my cup of tea but we are all new to the course.
Greens too firm
The greens were way too firm. Approach shots were literally bouncing 10' high after landing on the greens.
Herding Cattle
I have been playing this course for well over 10 years and it used to be a friendly place to play with a neighborhood atmosphere. Now they over book tee times and herd you like cattle to get everyone in. They did not let me go off in a twosome even though I booked a tee time in the pro shop that they said would allow me to go off with a twosome. The starter ended up grouping us with another twosome to make a foursome. When I told him that I would like to play as a twosome he got upset and called the pro shop. They said if I wanted to play it would have to be a foursome. I ended up getting a refund for the round and went to Meadowbrook Farms down the road. Much better course with much better people running the show. Cinco Ranch GC used to be a friendly place. Now it's run by an arrogant staff. Would not recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing round of golf. If you are into being paraded around and rushed, this place is for you.
