Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
Fun course
Decent shape considering it’s the middle of winter. Fun outing, nice layout, fun but somewhat challenging holes. Lots of cedar trees lining the course so if you’re prone to allergies, maybe double up on your meds a couple days before/after if you’re playing Dec-Feb!
brandomanv2, thanks for the amazing review and for choosing Crystal Falls Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon!

Overall good golf course. Greens are fast and layout of course is nice .
However the pace is play was terrible they had times tees stack and you had to wait long periods of time . Need to structure that better .
Thank you for taking the time to review us, jagincs. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your business. Crystal Falls Golf Course thanks you!
Terrible pace.
3rd time out here, swore to never come back due to pace of play 5-6 hour rounds. Was told the course had new carts and was being ran better so I came to check it out one more time. Nothing has changed tee time was delayed 30 minutes on a weekday, 2-3 groups on holes at a time. Save your money or play elsewhere.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!

Great Course with Great Rates
Awesome course in great shape for December. Some of the views on back nine are unreal.

Beautiful course
Comparable to many of Austins municipal courses like Jimmy Clay and Morris Williams. Despite all the recent rain the course seemed to have drained off water well and kept the fairway and greens in great shape. The tee boxes were well maintained as well. Pace of play was well maintained, my group waited a bit for the group in front but its cause we played quite fast. Beautiful course with great layout, also not too hard of a course since there weren’t any bunkers and the slopes help you if you hit in the right spots.
Your feedback is important to us, jasonchen022. Thank you for sharing your 5-star experience. We look forward to seeing you again at the course soon! Thanks for choosing Crystal Falls Golf Course.
Picturesque Texas Hillcountry golf cours
This course is absolutely beautiful. The fairways and greens are in great shape. They just got brand new carts with GPS and hole flyover which was really nice. Pace of play was great. When we pulled up they brought the cart to the car. Full bar and good food. Highly recommend playing this course. It is challenging with sloping fairways and some fast greens. Overall a fantastic experience.
Thank you for your review, DreB1987. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Crystal Falls Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Better than back-in-the-day
This course is kind of the gateway to Texas Hill Country golf—it’s always had hills and it used to be in the country (even though it’s probably just at the edge of the actual Hill Country). The rap on the course when it opened in the 90s was that there were too many slanted fairways that would send balls that landed at their center careening into the rough. Better players, especially, didn’t care for that type of result and lambasted the design because they said it wasn’t fair. Poor players, who rarely hit fairways anyway, never seemed to mind as much. They just dropped a new Spaulding in the short grass nearest the point they guessed their old one found the cactus and swang away, cooing about the unimpeachable beauty of their surroundings.
I had heard that, some years ago, the course poobahs had addressed some of the more glaringly canted landing zones by widening them and, perhaps, softening them with a little bit taller (and greener) grass. In any case, I don’t hit Spauldings anymore, but I do hit a few more than a few fairways these days and I can honestly report that those fairways seemed to hold the ball quite a bit better than they used to (even though I, personally, never hit them back then).
The landscape, and the views, are still breathtaking, even though there are houses that have sprouted up to overlook the proceedings. They are well out of play, for the most part, seem to take less from the experience than most courses that are encumbered with dwellings.
The fact that the course is municipally owned is almost shocking to me—the city of Leander, and it’s leaders, deserve a mountain of credit for shepherding this hidden gem into its 30s with the love and support that is usually reserved for country clubs and resorts. Crystal Falls is a tremendous value at its current price point—even though you might be called upon to donate a few more golf balls than what you would consider to be necessary, reasonable, or, perhaps, even fair.
Thanks so much for your wonderful review, ToweringJudas. We are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your time with us. Please visit again soon. Thanks for choosing Crystal Falls Golf Course!
Greens only part in good shape, rest of the course was not
Haven't been here in awhile but there was a cheap hotdeal so decided to try it again and same bad conditions as always. Greens were at least in good shape but the rest of the course was in the same ole bad conditions. Tee boxes in rough shape, fairways hardly any grass and tight lies. Pretty lame they only put rye down on the very last hole (end of the fairway for your 3rd shot) which makes no sense and just teases you for how good the fairways could be if they did all of them the same way.
Hi, atxg0lf3r! Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. Please know the current conditions are by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We will continue to work towards a 5-star experience and we hope to see you back!
Pace of play is terrible
We have played this course countless times and we love the challenging layout and the pretty views. But pace of play has just continued to get worse and worse. Our latest round took 5:45. We saw a number of marshals, but nothing was ever done about the pace. As much as I love this course, I may now choose to take it out of my rotation. No round of golf should take 5 hours, let alone almost 6 hours.

Fun course with lots of elevation changes!
Very friendly staff. Ask the guys in the pro shop for a few tips before you hit the course. They were really helpful.

Tight, no flat greens, nice views
A little hidden gem in the Texas hill country. Bargain pricing, superb greens. Tough scoring course. No sand traps.

Could be better
Pro shop counter guy was not friendly. Just gets old at places like this. You’re already over paying from a quality of course perspective at least be friendlier. Bar has a very nice liquor selection. Brand new carts were nice but the gps in my cart was not working the whole time. The other players in my group were able to enjoy theirs though. Looked cool.
Pace of play was ridiculous.

Great course. Will play again.
Had a great time. Loved the cart with gps yardage to greens. Only downside was pace of play but I was a single and got held up by larger groups which is expected. Some let me play through which was great. Hope to be back soon.
