While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

Challenging but enjoyable

Have played this course a few times and always enjoy it. Definitely need to keep balls in play, as going OB usually means reaching for a new golf ball. Well maintained, GPS in the carts, pace of play is never an issue here either.

Note to management:

I booked as a single and was told I'd have to pay for my own cart because I wasn't comfortable sharing with a random person. I was speaking with a younger gentleman who explained that if I booked through Golfnow that was a rule. Nothing on GolfNow says anything about this.

As we were trying to figure this out, a Chinese man got an attitude out of nowhere and said if I didn't like it I could leave. We argued a bit and the younger guy in the clubhouse said he'd make an exception and give me the cart this time. FYI, It was a Friday afternoon tee time, there's no chance you'd be short on carts. Plus, it was raining.

Good customer service is hard to come by. Maybe hire fewer people and pay them more.

Dishonest front desk

I was charged cart fees even though they only had 3-some going out. Front desk lies about 3-other players being checked in before me. I had to pay $18 extra, I’m ok with charge if it is valid and within reason. However, not Ok with feeling cheated.

great use of the land

very hilly course. fairways are all slanted, but they offset that with a relatively short distance. really fun par 3s.

Great course in Leander, Texas

First time playing Crystal Falls GC. Excellent set up, scenic views. Holes 2 and 14(?) have beautiful drops. Entire course is fairly exciting for the casual player, short but with tight fairways on the Par 5s.

Club House required masks but did not appear to enforce. I was startled by a group of old folk in bathroom without masks (never mind). Club House needs minor improvements to make it more inviting.

Great course, great conditions

One of my favorite courses in the Austin area. Great layout, challenging even though there's not a single sand trap.

Bunkerless slopefest

This is a course that plays way harder than it looks or should in my opinion. There’s no bunkers but the course is really tight most of the time and lined with trees and native area that’s an absolute golf ball muncher. It’s also so sloped that you’re lucky to have a flat lie even in the middle of the fairway. The greens were really baked out which was fun but also added to the difficulty. Overall it’s a fun, well kept course with a different style of play than almost anything else in the area.

Great Value for the Money

Pros: Course is in good shape. Several holes that are very scenic and fun to play. Pace of play was good on a busy day.

Cons: too many blind shots and fairways that slope towards trouble. Luckily we were paired with someone that knew the course well. Otherwise it would have been a lot more frustrating.

Overall: would recommend Crystal Falls primarily for the scenery and value, especially on the north side of Austin.

FUN and pretty course.

It a very fun course and good condition .

Couple complaints I have is No drinking water is out for course in 100 degrees in Texas no carts come by to buy either...

I understand it COVD19 is issues but giving water and paper cups should be open to it .I feel like lot of golf course are actually lazy and taking advantage of situations to do nothing ..
