Blue Lake Golf Club
About
Often overshadowed by the high-dollar resorts and new championship layouts, Blue Lake is one of the lesser-known gems of the Highland Lake area. Exuding the old-school charm of its course designer, the crusty Jimmy Burke, this scenic track is loaded with wildlife and is generally a joy to play because of its simplicity.
Burke’s par 32 layout consists of five par 3s, three par 4s, and only one par 5. There are no bunkers or water hazards. The course weaves in and out of a quaint housing community, and a few elevated tees offer views of Lake LBJ.
Notable holes include the 365-yard par 4 with out-of-bounds looming left and trees on the right, and the par 3 16th, which plays almost 200 yards.
Two sets of tees make for an 18-hole round, andyou can pay once and play all day.
Getting there : From Hwy. 71 west, turn right on Blue Lake Deer Haven Dr., then drive 2 miles north to the course.

Cool Blue Lake
Great get away from the hustle and bustle of Austin.
Really friendly staff...
Although short good challenge.
Had a great time, love the hills and scenery, good pass play
Great little course
Played Blue Lake in Horseshoe Bay for the first time. Excellent outing! Probably one of the most peaceful rounds I've had in years. Early Tee time, so had the course wide open for just me and the deer. Staff (Scooter) was awesome. Friendly and very helpful. Even checked with me after the first nine to see what I thought.
While no water or sand and relatively short, it's not without its challenges given the hills, narrow tee shot requirements and some center fairway trees to navigate around. A great course for shot making dealing with angled lies and longer par 3 distances to make good shot placement a necessity. Greens were in great shape and rolled true. Also, the maintenance and upkeep on the course (divot repair/filling, ball marks on the green) were all repaired (and on a Monday!). Will definitely be back.
Great short course
We had a perfect day. Clear & a little cool down (for Tx in June). Empty course. Fairway and greens all in great shape. Tight fairways to challenge your game. Will be back to this gem.
Gem
This course is Challenging! 9 holes break forty you better be straight butter. Trees, sloping greens, sloping fairways! It’s a test and “keeps bringing me back in”

Blue Lake Challenge
This track is such a gem. Reminds me of par three course with my dad. Just a magical place. Tough birdie holes all day long.
Great 9 hole course. Lots of character with no water or sand. Was very enjoyable
Great not-so-little 9 hole course.
Challenging course layout with longest par 3s and well maintained greens.
It was ok
Staff was super nice. Course is just ok nothing special.
More help in pro shop.
This place is amazing. One of the most beautiful courses in the hill country. I’m leaving an overall of 3 stars because the lady in the pro shop is completely lost at work everyday. It should never take over 40min to check in a tee time that we reserved ahead of time, just to figure out when we get there she’s totally lost on how to run the pro shop in general. Please get more coherent staff so we can be charged correctly and in a timely manner.
Very challenging 9 hole Hill Country gem
Wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Fantastic little course. Some very challenging par3 holes in the 190 range. Lots of elevation changes, some blind shots, deep bermuda off the fairways, and woods off of some of the fairways. Only 1 par 5 and mostly par 4’s. I did better the first 9. Nice carts, well maintained, friendly staff, and met several very friendly golfers. Well worth the time to play this one. Would challenge very good golfers. Lots of wildlife.
Basic, charming community course
I told myself the next time I was in HSB I would venture off to see Blue Lake. It's the antithesis of the championship resort courses and Escondido, and it's also just $12 to walk nine holes, so it's a great option if you lack the combination of time, money and access for those.
I walked it in about 70 minutes. The land is pretty rolling and many of the greens are elevated. They are basic, just generally small circles in shape. Deer galore on a fall evening. If you play the blues you'll have quite a few 175- to 190-yard shots. I suspect it's a place supported almost entirely by neighborhood residents. Glad I stopped in.
Blue Lake Golf Now Special
Wonderful weather, fairways and rough dormant, greens very small but very soft. Challenging short course, small greens hold very well. Great little course to work on iron game. 2nd time playing the course, Saturday Special pricing can't be beat. Will play again !!
