Hidden Falls Golf Club is a Leon Howard design that opened in 1974. The course cuts through a pecan grove on the front and what seems like an ocean of water on the back, creating two totally different golf experiences. Howard uncharacteristically left out water on the tight, pecan-lined front, with the wet stuff in play on only one hole. However this one pond plays a role in the best hole on the course, no. 4, which features a pond and waterfall in the landing area off the tee. No. 4 is rated as the most difficult. The more open back nine is dominated by water. No. 10 starts off with a drive of 200-yards-plus over the pond fronting the tee. A small creek comes into play on the next three holes, which lead you to the other signature hole, no. 14. Water lines the left side of the 14th, and the approach is over a small pond. If that's not enough, the final three holes all feature water in play off the tee.

Greens need help

Hidden Falls is a decent layout through the City of Meadowlakes subdivision, and the city owns the course The front nine is literally rowed with homes but most won't come into play as the layout is plenty wide to avoid them. The back nine is a little better layout and definitely challenges you a little more.

What I don't get about this course is that they tore down a perfectly good clubhouse to build a new one, costing millions I'm sure. Meanwhile, every green on this course has at least three different kinds of grasses on it, none of which grow uniformly, leaving peaks and valleys and a soft, spongy feel on the greens. This mishmash of different grasses has spread into the chipping areas around the greens, making a chip a crapshoot also.

Relative to the other courses in the area, you have to hit your putt about three times as hard to make it go just 10 ft. There is no question these greens put at least five strokes on my score after well hit putts.

In my humble opinion, The powers that be made a gross miscalculation on where to spend their money.

A golf course can be a rocky, deadpan, dirt filled affair, but if the greens are clean people will play it.

Personally, unless I get a GolfNow price. There's plenty of better options in the area, where if a hit a solid putt, it will roll smoothly to the cup instead of bouncing the whole way and literally going right and left before it rolls by the hole because of the terrain.

It all starts with the greens, Meadowlakes. When you get through with your bougie clubhouse - which was already so expensive nobody ate there anyway - try spending some money on GRASS.

Always Fun

10 AM tee time and pace of play was great. They are in the middle of construction on the club house so a bit messy around. Also, crab grass on the greens made for some bouncy putts.

Overall good experience and course. Will play again.

Greens were rough

The course was in good shape except for greens. They are building a brand new clubhouse which should be nice when finished but they have really neglected their greens at a time of year when they should be stellar. I’ll try them again next year to see if they’re back in shape.

Good Course

The price is low enough that you get a lot of beginning golfers and they can really slow the pace of play down. We played on a Sunday and there was actually a group of six being allowed to play... the only way we got around them was when they went to the clubhouse after nine and we didn't. They are struggling to keep the greens in good shape. They are a little rough in places.

Greens

The have a lot of construction going on at the club house. This makes things interesting getting around the course amenities.

The big issue is the state of the greens. They are like wash boards in places. Please roll the greens so the putts are closer to being true.

Enjoyable

Staff here is always amazing. Let me tee off early since nobody was on tee box. Nice layout and pace of play was 3 hours. Fellow golfers on course were friendly.

Hidden Gem of the Texas Hill Country

Nice course! First time playing it and would play there again. Fairways and greens were in good shape with the recent rains. Pace of play was fantastic. Great time.

It’s ok

For an inexpensive practice round it’s ok but I won’t be back for a while. The greens are in terrible shape. The amount of rain and mild temps we have had should have everything in great condition but the greens are terrible here. Patchy, with massive bumps and holes everywhere.

Nice Course, Renovations Underway

This was my first time to play Hidden Falls. I was skeptical at first, given all of the construction, it took a minute or two to figure out where the clubhouse was. Free range balls. The course was in desperate need of mowing, especially the tee boxes and greens. But I can tell that a lot of time and energy is being put in to the course and it will be really cool when it is complete. Will go again.

Will be even better in several months

Got a great deal thru GN. Course has some major construction in progress for a new clubhouse, so some challenges with that. Overall course was in good shape and has a fun and challenging layout. Beware on the back 9 as several holes require layups for water avoidance. Not always visible from the Tee Box.

Love playing here. The recent rain has everything green and the greens are in good shape overall with the Bermuda coming in. Fairways are great and the course is such a fun layout. Gonna be back again soon with friends and family.
