About
After 50 years, the old 9-hole McKinney Municipal Golf Course shut down to make room for the new 18-hole championship layout now known as Oak Hollow. This new layout, designed by Maury Miller, opened in 1998, featuring rolling terrain that routes around six manmade lakes.
Miller’s design is particularly friendly from the middle tees, playing a fair 6,277 yards with several short par 3s and many average-length par 5s. The number one handicap is No. 15, a 423-yard par 4.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 75 north to Hwy. 380, then head east to Hwy. 5 (McDonald St.). The road veers and leads you 1 mile to the course.

Nice local track
I had never played Oak Hollow before this time and I had heard mixed reviews. For the price and location, it was a fun outing. The greens were a bit bumpy but that appears to be have been due to recent aeration, so no big ding on them. The fairways were in nice shape and the layout was fun. Overall definitely a good fun course to play.

Fun, but nothing fancy
Don't go in expecting fancy amenities or a perfectly groomed course. That said, it provides enough variety to keep it fun. We sped through our round without ever getting caught up to the group in front of us and we were never pushed by a group behind us. Despite being windy, course played pretty easy. Lots of runout on drives. If anything, quality of the greens needed some work on a few holes.

What you see is what you get
This is an old Muni in fair shape. Not too difficult, but the greens are bumpy. Keep the ball in the fairway and you can score. Pace of play for the front 9 is a little slow. Back 9 was ok. Our round was a little over 4 hours.

The course hadn’t been mowed, the greens were rough, the grass in the fairways was up to my ankles on some holes

Good value
Good price and nice people working there.
Green is skidding with quite a bit of sand on the surface. Once you are off the fairway, you need to carefully address the lies since the grounds are pretty hard and not so well maintained.

Horrible greens condition
Greens were heavily sanded they were just yellow sand. Course should let the customers know off this so we could make our choices. At least it should be at discounted rate.

Greens Overtaken by Poa Annua
Rough roll on greens due to invasion of Poa annua grass which is a nuisance. Otherwise, I enjoyed the course.

Disappointed
Always has been one of my favorite courses however this time the greens were in horrible conditions. Many of them had no grass at all, I was told it was because they get a lot of play? Well all the courses in this area do too but they have grass growing just fine. Also, the fairways looked like they have not been given any attention is quite a while? I will wait a couple months before going back and hopefully they will have a better handle on the courses care.

Oak Hollow
Fairways in good shape. GREENS need a lot of work. At least 3 different types of grass and bumpy. It will be a fun course when the greens are manicured correctly.
