Oak Hollow Golf Course
About
After 50 years, the old 9-hole McKinney Municipal Golf Course shut down to make room for the new 18-hole championship layout now known as Oak Hollow. This new layout, designed by Maury Miller, opened in 1998, featuring rolling terrain that routes around six manmade lakes.
Miller’s design is particularly friendly from the middle tees, playing a fair 6,277 yards with several short par 3s and many average-length par 5s. The number one handicap is No. 15, a 423-yard par 4.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 75 north to Hwy. 380, then head east to Hwy. 5 (McDonald St.). The road veers and leads you 1 mile to the course.

Many better options around
Common theme it’s seems but courses love to charge $50+ and put none of that money into the course itself. They may not be 100% yet, but the greens are just dead grass. People were raving about how fast they were, lol it was dead grass pressed down from so many people walking on it. There wasn’t a marshal on the course but there sure was a starter! We had 3 walkers, myself included, there was a lady receiving a lesson in front of us. She would hit just enough balls to have us waiting on every shot but not for long, her cart died on 10. I asked if we could play through and she said yes, then 2 holes later she’s back in front of us taking just enough time to make us wait but not for too long. Not too much of a problem but let people go through!! It was borderline infuriating since we asked and she was playing slower. The coach was encouraging it too, when he was there for the first 7 holes she had us waiting. Won’t be back ever again, constantly saying that Sherrill, Pecan, Watters and other courses are better.
Not for me
First time out and more than likely my last. Greens were supposedly good according to reviews and others, I need to take other people’s reviews with a grain of salt. The greens here are just dead grass, there are spots on almost every green that are going near bare. Nothing about the course or layout was special, nothing wowed me. Usually I can find a redeeming quality for the cheaper courses like the layout being fun despite awful conditions, this course didn’t hit that mark for me. Only two par 5s on the whole course which I tend to dislike, a lot of the par 4s were shorter which I also tend to dislike and the par 3s were longer which I equally tend to dislike. On top of that, what I thought would be at least decent greens turned out to be just dead with a lack of care prominently showing. I find myself commonly saying this, this course (and many others) is nowhere near as good for the value when compared to places like Sherrill Park, Pecan Hollow and Watters Creek. With all that being said, this course probably suffers from the twilight rounds that could care less about adequately taking care of a course while playing it. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was a full course, most of the golfers you’d see out there very obviously weren’t the type to fix their marks or divots - the course shows it too.
Very good for price
Very good for price. Greens are in good shape. Layout is good. Fairway and rough could be better !
Perfect spring day for golf
I was pleasantly surprised by how good a condition the course was in. The greens were really good (& fast): the pace was good; the value was good. I enjoyed myself very much. I will be playing again in the future.
Play elsewhere
In my opinion, there’s no excuse for the course to be in that bad condition with the weather we’ve had. Several times I was in the “fairway” and there was no grass mud and extremely firm like hitting off of concrete. I won’t even get into it if you don’t hit the fairway. In my opinion, look elsewhere, especially for what they charge. The staff was very friendly, but that’s about it.
Didn’t even get to play
I was there at 11:30am for my 12:20 tee time! They filled my spot and then told me to go with another group that would have made 5! I declined and left. Didn’t even get to play the round.
Sick of crappy greens
I wish someday a golf course would give a discounted rate for a round of golf after they get done sanding them considering the green is really the most important part of the round where I can really make or break your score not knowing about sanded greens is number one a huge surprise but number two just not worth $$65 for the round not to mention the fact that the driving range was closed so we had no warm-up!
Course in very good shape.
The course is in very good shape. Pace of play was good, being spring break lots of families with kids so a little slow. Staff was very attentive and did a good job.
Fun Course/ Good Value
Fun course to play, several of the holes can be a real challenge for golfers of any level. Hole 8 is a monster, no place to go right, left trees. Good luck. All in all this course is worth the price. Nice staff.
