Mesquite Golf Course
About
Mesquite’s muni, located in the Duck Creek floodplain, was built in the 1960s by Leon Howard. Playing only 6,280 yards from the tips and void of bunkers, it makes for a fun day on the links. In fact, water comes into play only seven times–not as much as you might think for a floodplain course that has been ravaged by floods over the years.
The most challenging hole, No. 13, has water. It’s a 418-yard par 4 that doglegs right and features a tee shot over a creek, followed by a long approach to a tough, narrow green.
Other notes: Garrett Gill and George B. Williams redesigned this course.
Getting there : From I-30 east, take Northwest Hwy. for .5 mile to North Hwy. 67 and the course.

Good day for golf
Course was in pretty good shape. Greens were good, but fast as usual. Easy to 3 putt. Pace was good. Very good place for a round of golf.
Rough
For $50 I would’ve expected a little bit better conditions. It’s gone down hill. I haven’t played here in years but decided I’d try it out again. The fairways are awful. Little to no maintenance on them at all. Another thing that I didn’t like was having a marshal tell me I’m playing slow and 10 minutes off pace but was having to wait for the groups ahead of me to finish. A little common sense would show that it wasn’t me. I won’t be coming back.
Great Course
I play this course a few time during the season. It is one of my favorite. Challenge yet very playable and enjoyable. I highly recommend this course.
Great course
Friendly staff, I found this course unique and it was fun to play although it beat me up a bit. Great value as well
Fantastic Greens
This course has the best greens of any Municipal course in the area, hands down. They roll ultra true and are slippery fast, also very responsive to iron and wedge shots, as well as chips and pitches. Great value here. Fairways are a little firm and thin, but it’s winter so that’s expected. Even without a discount from a hot deal you’re getting your money’s worth for sure.
They layout is fun and challenging. From the tips or even T -1 the course will take driver out of you hands for a long stretch on the front (3-6). Then it puts it back in your hand for a tight, up-hill par 5. However, depending on pin placement, 3 of the 4 par 3’s might be the same shot. The final par 3 (17) is a monster, scorecard killer for sure. Fun design.
Very Challenging with the pin placement
Fast green plus the pin placement for all 18 holes, it makes Mesquite Golf Course very challenging.
OK Course But Change the Greens
I thought the staff was efficient and pacing was good. The course had typical winter fairways for Texas, not exactly lush and green. The real problem is the greens. The Marshal warned that they were "fast". That is not an accurate description, They are all SLOPED from back to front. If you hit past the pin, you'd better take dead aim on the way down. If your ball doesn't drop into the cup, there is no stopping it. I like the challenge of reading an undulating green. These were not challenging, they were just plain poorly laid out. This could be remedied and the course would be much more enjoyable.
