El Dorado at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
Developers eventually had their way with this cow pasture on the fringe of Houston. Loaded with native pecans and oaks and supplemented with even more transplanted trees, the terrain is ideal for golf, with two creeks and five natural lakes on the property. In fact, it's good enough to host the PGA Tour's Houston Open in 1973 and 1974.
The traditional El Dorado Course plays to a par 70 and features five par 3s that go 190-yards-plus from the tips. Jay Riviere designed the back nine.
Jeff Blume managed the redesign and complete renovation of the El Dorado Course in 2009.

Always challenging
Harder than average course, but overall in good condition. A bit soft in places due to recent rain, but it made the greens receptive. Will definitely come back for more.
Great course but bring your own water
ElDorado Course was great but drinking water is scarce since clubhouse is closed for construction and so is the Laquinta course. Bring your own water.
Great find
Incredible layout. Fairways in very good shape for summer and price point. Greens decent. Some bad spots.
Great for the money
Excellent
Very challenging and greens decent! Will be back again soon! Golf now has some hoy deals!
Impeccable
Course was in great shape and I was teamed up with 3 youngsters that made the experience so much fun
Tough course...
This place flat-out ate my lunch today. Tons of blind water hazards lurking out there. The guy I was paired with had never played here either, so neither of us had a clue where the trouble was hiding.
You can hit what feels like a perfect shot… only to watch it disappear into a hazard you never saw coming.
Ended up with my worst score of the season here today. Hopefully, if you play this course, you’ll get paired with someone who knows the layout and can warn you where to aim (and more importantly, where not to).
That said—nice track, and I’d play it again in a heartbeat. Now that I know where the danger is, I’m confident I could shave at least 5 shots off my score.
If you do give it a go, do yourself a favor—bring extra balls. 😂
Great course . Will be coming back.
This place had great staff and the greens were well maintained. The whole course was very well maintained and clean.
Long Day
You could see the grass grow it was so slow. But the course was in good shape.
Where is the Marshall?
The pace of play was terrible! The two flights ahead of us were a group of players that were apparently regulars. Very slow, drove cart right up to the green, would not pick up the ball after two shots in the water. No action by the Marshall.
El Dorado at Quail valley
Course is in excellent shape. Its a tough golf course as every shot has to be thought out and executed or bogey or worse will happen. Greens are very fast with subtle breaks but very receptive even for long irons into them. Definitely worth playing again.
Good course for the money, but extremely slow pace
The course is well maintained; you can tell they take pride in their course. Greens were great; fairways too. Bunkers were a bit rough on a few holes but with all the rain that was expected. Pace was slow; group of four ahead of us with a group of 5 ahead of them and we couldn’t play through since there were groups in front of them they were waiting on. Had to wait to tee off at 90% of the holes, but not normally more than 10 minutes.
Beautiful Course
What a beautiful course. I believe it was a PGA tour course in the 70s. There is nothing to complain about on the El Dorado course. It is challenging!
