Landa Park Municipal Golf Course

About
Originally opened in 1938 as a nine-hole course, Landa Park Golf Course has since expanded by 52 acres in 1969 to make it an 18-hole course. Although it is on the shorter side, the golf course is still entertaining for golfers of all skill levels. Bordering the Comal River, there are some water hazards coming into play on the course. The fairways are wide and there are not many difficult approach shots, making it a more player-friendly golf course. Landa Park Golf Course features small, undulating greens and there are mature trees lining the fairways. Although it is fairly forgiving, Landa Park does have some challenges, including the lengthy par-5 fourth hole that stretches over 550 yards.

Great course, Slow pace
Enjoyed golfing and the course conditions. Only issue is that the pace of play was VERY SLOW. We were waiting nearly the entire time due to the group in front of us.
Fun Fun Fun
I’m 66, don’t hit it as far as I once did, and love the layout at Landa for placing a premium on spotting the ball up & having the ability to hit different clubs from the same distance. There is a premium on “misses”, where you cannot hit the ball and expect to make par or better. I like the green complexes, the angles, all of it. I birdied the Par 5 #12 I think, which really requires a cut tee shot, a right to left 2nd, and had a little pitch about 30 yards I hit to a foot. My 74 year old brother loved it, he shot 75, I had 76. Good golf course, a must play in the Hill Country!
Play it every chance I can
Landa Park is not easy to get a tee time for but when you can, it's always worth it. New Braunfels really has a gem of a municipal course.
Nice muni
Nice course especially the views along the river. A few bad spots on the greens here and there but in good shape overall. The starter seemed pretty confused and mixed up. Greens were quick and difficult to read.
Getting on the course - problematic
Nice course especially for the money. The only significant issue for me is that, as a nonmember, I can not get on the course until 1:00 on which is a deal breaker. There appears to be very high demand for AM Tee times.
The staff was extremely accommodating. Wish it was more of a fit
Finally
Tee times hard to come by, but was worth the wait. Awesome condition
Bar Service on Course
Several of the players I've played with recently, and myself, have discussed the need for beverage service on the course (Cart Girl(s)), which would elevate the golf experience. Many of the better Country Clubs have this service.
City Gem
Landa Park Golf Course is an excellent city venue. Beautiful park like setting with fresh springs flowing through it. Rates are quite reasonable and both duffers and scratch golfers will enjoy the challenge.
Beautiful public course
This course is in just as good of shape as any surrounding private course. I love to play here.
Staying on my list for regular play.
This was my 3rd time to play Landa Park.
The clubhouse has a nice and clean shop along with a bar around the corner. You can sit at the bar counter or at a table. I didn't take a good look this time around but last year I believe there were only bar height tables. I'd like to see normal (low) height tables along the windows to a) be available for those that prefer/need them and b) make it that much easier to enjoy the view from the entire bar. Clubhouse staff (in its entirety) were all very courteous and genuine. You never know how much that can help someone coming to play or relax or getaway from 'real life.' I've always enjoyed chatting a little with the open/friendly staff at Landa. Zicke Zacke Hoi Hoi Hoi!
There's a large putting green with a bunker on the low side of the clubhouse next to the parking lot. You then have to drive or hike uphill just a touch to get to a few covered/netted hitting bays. This isn't a place to work on your game at the range; it's just to let you warm up before your round. At least you're in the shade, right!? It's enough to get the juices flowing by hitting however many balls are needed. All good though as I don't need anything else (unless I live nearby .. which I don't).
The course (shorter than many) makes up for any lack in distance by giving you small challenges along the way. Perhaps there are some larger trees forcing you to consider a different club. Or maybe it's the forced water carries. Let's not forget my nemesis #10 with its uphill overgrown creek crossing guarded by trees; it's a visual mind (cuss word) for me. Someday I'll play it well ... someday.
It's been a couple of months since we played and I'm just now writing this review. I don't recall having any issues of significance with the tee boxes, fairways, nor greens. Maybe I saw a spot here and there on the greens that was likely being treated one way or another. I must assume the bunkers were in good shape too. The greens were likely a little hard but they always are +/-. Both central Texas soil and summer heat (watering cost & schedule) will do that. I do recall seeing and using multiple water jugs while on the course -- so that's good.
The carts are of the newer style and comfort with big cup holders, USB ports, two sand bottles, and a ball washer & club cleaner. I did notice that the other side of the cart was empty though -- it would be a normal spot for a cooler (cough cough). :) For the beverages procured at the clubhouse, we were given a plastic bag with ice that was placed inside of a beverage box (like a 12pk of cans box). Kudos for repurposing the box I guess (at least for the moment), but now we're wasting the bag and dealing with it falling over in the seat basket etc. It's just not ideal; not preferred. Perhaps coolers can be acquired and placed on the carts in the future. The touch screen GPS with hole layouts and distances is ALWAYS a plus on a course. So many courses simply do not have on-course distance markings. And too many of my playing partners still do not use technology on the course. So they (too often) ask me to pull up their distance on my phone golf app. So we ALL love the GPS screen hanging from the ceiling of the carts.
Finally, I do want to point out that there's a very nice bathroom facility for men and women that's easily accessible from #13 and #15. A few courses out there could really use something like this when you're so far from the clubhouse. And if it weren't for this facility, the crowds over at Schlitterbahn (across the water from the tree line) might get more than bargained for. And no one wants that!
I still need to play this course in the early-mid spring. I'll see if I can put a reminder on my calendar. You should do the same.
