Golfer Reviews
Has potential
Course layout great, condition of greens really poor. Needs investment into greens, facilities, buggy’s etc and could be a great course, felt robbed for £100 for 2 with a very rickety old buggy.
Needs attention
The tee box’s were dried out and not watered and the greens were in awful condition with some having huge holes in them.
Fairways were dried out but to be expected due to the weather.
No Place For Old Men
This is not a posh course but great value for money at £20 am slot. Greens had been hollowtined and were a bit iffy. Very phyically challenging if you struggle with hills. Fairways in good nick with a roll over. Try it.
Great potential just needs some basic course maintenance
It's a long course and some lovely scenery along the way. Some challenging holes but nothing silly.
What stops this from being a real option for local golfers is a basic lack of investment on the fundamentals, Spending the minimum and hoping to make a profit is short term thinking snd ignores the huge potential of the baby boomers with lots of money to spend on leisure as they get to retirement age in an affluent area and a growing interest in golf across the spectrum.
All the course needs is more ground staff, materials and equipment. No new clubhouse (it's cute) and the staff are great. It could be a regular place to go to play golf (but not like this).
14 of 18 green were in terrible condition. They need to be watered, mowed and rolled. The ball bobbles all over the place, You loose one or 2 strokes on each of these greens. The bunkers are in disrepair, overgrown with no sand in most or just a bit of poor quality sand lost in the grass and weeds.
Such a shame to waste the potential, I hope the owner is someone who can accept the gift of feedback rather than someone too arrogant to listen to what should be his target customers.
Poor condition
Fairways, greens were awful. Simply couldn't putt on the greens due to hollowtining. They were patchy and different levels. Worse greens I've played in many years. We were tempted to ask for our money back after the first hole. This course could be good if it had investment. Unplayable. We won't be back. Avoid and save your money.
First time playing Ash Valley
Was quite surprised. Having played quite a few course within the Essex area most costing around the £30 mark.
At just £20 I didn’t expect the course to be as good as it was. The course was well planned out and the view to me were stunning.
The only comment i would make would be that the greens were dry on the day I played and having been spiked, i found it hard to make a decent putt over any distance.
All in all, a very pleasant round of golf. And, would definitely play here again and recommend it to my friends.
Poor condition
Tee boxes are mud, ground is water logged and boggy, massive tractors marks where grass has been cut, rough isn’t maintained & horrible bobbly bumpy greens
Great potential
Ash Valley has great potential providing they are willing to spend the money on the course, it’s a really well layed out course but the greens did let it down as they were in poor condition and really let the course down. But overall not a bad place to play
Cheap but easy to get on and OK condition
The course as well as many other courses has suffered from the hot dry weather.
But overall value for money it can't be beaten locally, my boys are learning and it's a perfect course for that. 3 1/2 hour round and we didn't see anyone except on the 18th when other people in buggies were going down the 16th.
Very poor greens & Tee boxes
Tee boxes are in a horrible condition, some are just pure mud and struggle to put a Tee in. When you arrive at the greens you can see damage by animals, followed by patchy muddy areas with cracks sand and grass seed everywhere. Old holes are visible and not level with greens. Such a shame as it has great potential
Shocking greens.
Absolutely horrendous greens and tee boxes not much better. Not one ball cleaner had water in and I do t think the bunkers had been raked this year, bunkers full of weeds. Won’t be returning.
Great course, poorly maintained
It’s a really interesting course but the greens are so poor they are unplayable. Each green is partially bare earth which renders it similar to cobblestones. The bunkers are un-raked and choked with weeds.
What a shame.
Greens not good
Please sort out your greens. Not sure I have played on worse!
Low expectations, even lower rating
I really don’t know where to start.
I wouldn’t pay half of the rate to play this course if I had the choice now. It’s as if the groundsmen are on strike.
The fairways and rough are burnt beyond belief, tee boxes were hacked through to nothing and the greens were more mud than green (18th green pics attached)
I’d seriously avoid this the rest of the year, even for as cheap as it is it’s just not worth it.
