Good value for money
Enjoyed the course - quite challenging and although needs some rain was in pretty good condition all round.
Pleasantly Surprised
Played a round after work mid week. Never played here before and I was extremely happy when you consider the pricing.
Course was in great condition and green surprisingly soft considering the spell of hot weather were were having at the time.
Pace of play was fine, didn't have to wait and felt no pressure from group behind. Found the front 9 more enjoyable and easier to score on, but the back 9 offered up more challenges .
Would definitely recommend and will be be going back for another round
Decent course, nothing to shout about
Not a bad course, cheap morning tee times which is nice, but twilight is abit steep when considering the conditions, some greens were pretty knackered but overall was playable.
Designed for ‘true golfers’
At 24 handicap course just destroyed me.
Too many cross ditches.
Had to lay up before ditch on too many holes.
For good golfers go for it.
Not for poor average golfers
This course is clearly designed for good golfers.
Most holes have cross ditches. So constantly laying up.
For me at 24 handicap impossible.
My estimate good 20 shots harder than other local courses.
Can’t fault quality of greens etc but by the time got there out of the hole.
Ditches
To be truthful ditches make it a hard trip.
I’m a 24. Not easy.
But guess designed for true golfer.
Apart from the tees, greens, fairways and phone operator it was great!!!
Played here last year and liked the layout of the course so thought we’d come back and have another round. Friend booked it last week and said it was £18.75. The cost scared me because it was far too cheap. I rang the pro shop a few days ago and asked if the course was in good condition as the price was low.
The club employee seemed aggrieved that I even asked that question and said the course was in very good condition and was the cost because it was a twilight tee time 1.10pm.
I thought offsite enough.
Well let me tell you he was lying through his teeth.
The tees were shocking, not one of them was level and you were lucky if they were 50% grass on them. The greens had been spiked weeks ago but had clearly not been filled with sand. They were bobbly to say the least and was impossible to get a true putt as some of the spike holes had healed themselves but some were still wide open holes. On one hole I actually picked up a whole patch of turf from the green whilst another (8th was so bad we picked up and gave ourselves 2 putts.
The fairways had daisy’s growing out of them and coming down the 18th was like a scene from Little House on the prairie with thousands growing.
Now you might say you pay for what you get and I agree which is why I was concerned at the cost and called the course.
But to be blatantly lied to about the condition of the course is unforgivable and for that reason I’ll never play there again which is a shame as it’s quite a nice layout.
If they put some money into maintaining the course I think it would be a popular course, but tees, green and fairways were awful
Good value course that would benefit from more attention to greens and tee boxes
Manor of Groves is a challenging course, with good variety of holes, some with wide, open fairways and quite a few requiring accuracy between the trees. No driving range exists, and it is a bit irritating that you can’t really practice driving as the mats won’t take a tee. The course itself is well laid out but some of the greens are in poor condition, and some of the tee boxes are poorly maintained. However, the pace of play was good, and the holes are laid out in a way that requires lots of different shot types. Fantastic value for money, and a bit of effort to improve the greens would make it even better.
Good valve for money.
Sun's was out so off to a good start. Will in the bar was very good.👍course played well will a westerly breeze. The greens had been spiked which was the only let down, and short putts where wobbly and needed sanding and brushing in. That said it was a Sunday and the afternoon so the grass had had plenty of growing time on the greens since their last cut. Overall 7 out of 10.
Course has not been kept well
A bit disappointed with a course I use to like. Greens had been cored which is fine but they hadn't used enough sand after and the greens were really rough. The 8th was terrible. A moved green but it was left so bad with so much sand the bunker would of been easier to put out of. We picked up and give each other 2 puts. It seems like the maintenance is all a bit of a bridge job
Long but nice course.
Course in better nick than some especially after all the rain we have had. Greens still retain some pace surprisingly. Good value for money.
Interesting, shortish, tight layout, but painfully slow
Interesting layout, shortish but tight. Fairways in good condition, and greens true albeit there was damage on half as there was around the greens with a lot of GIR. Spoilt by the slowness, nearing 4.5 hours for a late morning midweek round not good. Pleasant staff and members.
Very nice
We arrived and booked in at friendly pro shop , hired a buggy
, buggy was clean and well charged , coarse was in good condition, all in all a very good coarse, only negatives would be a couple of bunkers could of been in better condition and a few rabbit digs around edge of two greens . We will definitely play here again
Value for money
Love playing this course. Front 9 is totally different to the back 9 which is a good thing. Great price too. That said, I hope next time we play it that the tee boxes are actually mowed as they were way too high for this time of the year and a few of the greens were dug up and a bit unkept uncertain parts. Overall would definitely recommend
Manor of Groves Review Bank Holiday Monday
After reading a few negative reviews of this course I was a little worried in what condition it would be in but friends that had played said it was good. The course was brilliant. lovely well kept fairways and greens were rapid and true. The new redeveloped 8th hole needs a while to bed in as the green isn 't great and the tee boxes weren't brilliant either on the course only negatives imo. I would 100 per cent play again some really challenging holes and difficult pin positions and brilliant 600 yard par 5 finish!
Always Slow Play
I’ve been playing here for years, mainly because it’s only 5 minutes from my house. The course is decent and pretty well kept. I don’t understand the negative comments about the course being in bad condition.
My only real issue is the constant slow play. Not helped recently by more and more groups not letting people play through. I’m seriously considering travelling a bit further to other courses.
