Arrowhead Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Arrowhead Golf Club has been declared the top public course in Denver in the past by Golf Digest, as well as one of the top 75 public courses in the nation. The towering red sandstone rock formations are a trademark of the course, providing a unique and beautiful atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the abundant wildlife that have made the course their home. The rolling terrain provides elevation changes and undulation to the greens. Water hazards and bunkers also come into play on the course. Arrowhead Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 13th hole. It is a steep, downhill hole with scenic views.

Beautiful course
A very picturesque course. There are a couple blind holes and the GPS doesn't give distances to bunkers or hazards. Nice layout that is challenging. I would love to play it again.
Scenic Course
For this early in the year the course was in good shape. First time playing this course. Like the course and layout. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Arrowhead challenge
Gorgeous views. Treacherous off the tee. Conditions could have been better on the fairways, especially early in the season. Overall a wonderful round.
Great course - poor pace
Beautiful and challenging course but no one managing the pace of play. 2 hours to play holes 1 - 8. Constant waiting at each hole to tee off. Tough to stay consistent. Took 5 hours to finish!
A "Must Do" in Denver
Arrowhead is one of the most beautiful courses I have ever seen. The unique rock formations coupled with the course layout is sure to make a player come back. Even early in the season, the course had very playable fairways and tee boxes. The greens had just been sanded so they were pretty fast. You owe it to yourself, friends, family and even people you don't like to recommend this course.
Great views, wildlife,
First, I would like to say that visually it is one of the best courses in the Denver Metro area. The rock formations, the wildlife (deer, elk, foxes) were awesome to see. Now to the golf.
First green shares green with the 18th, so not a great start. Holes were punched in the greens for aeration purposes, sanded as well. I get it, it is March 30th. No flag positions, no yardage markers, and my cart did not have working GPS. The tee boxes were/are uneven. Fairways were good, rough was good.
For one of the more expensive courses in the area, this course does not deliver value. $60 for off peak, off time, but regularly it is over $120? No thanks, I would play the Broadmoor or Air Force Academy.
Poor Green Conditions
Spoke with the assistant professional about poor conditions - He communicated that the greens have not recovered from FALL-13's aeration.
This blunder could set the greens back at least a month for Spring-14.
My concern is that this problem was not communicated before our round, nor were the green fees discounted.
In synopsis, Arrowhead is a true tourist destination - if your a local, you must see it once; however, the golf is severely lacking.
great winter golf in the rockies!
Even tho the grass was not yet green this course is stunning! Use golfnow.com to reserve a Tee time as this beautiful course is a little pricey!!
One-of-a-kind setting
Arrowhead is set in a one-of-a-kind location along these jagged red rocks on the front range just south of Denver. Each nine has several holes that will absolutely knock your socks off. It's also a RTJ Sr. design, so you're going to have some good challenge as well. I will say that on the day I played, they were certainly herding in the players, which made for a slow round.
Course not marked well and GPS gave false readings.
I love the setting of this golf course, it is set in the middle of huge red sandstone rocks. Many of the tee boxes set between two or more rocks, framing the fairway in the distance. I haven't played this course in years and decided to take a friend out and introduce him to this course. Sadly once on the course we found it hard to know which hole we were on, distances to the green, and flag locations, since markers were nonexistent, and the GPS system doesn't work well because of the rock formations (per greens keeper). The money spent to play this moderate to high dollar course was not commiserate to the course condition. Avoid this course until next year when signage is supposed to be installed.
great course even with plugged greens
This time of year Arrowhead offers a decent value. One of Colorado's most famous (and beautiful) courses, Arrowhead is especially appealing with the Fall/Early Winter rates. The downside of playing Arrowhead now is the greens have been plugged, so putting is bumpy.
Did not live up to the hype
The course was in good shape for the time of year but for the money I expect everything to be perfect, no excuses. The range is free, but only 180 yards deep. My cart was duct taped together, had engine problems and the GPS only worked on hole 1 and hole 15. These do not make the game impossible and to be honest are window dressing, but for the kind of scratch they ask for I ask for some pretty darn nice drapes in return.
Incredible Course
This was the second time I have played Arrowhead. After driving over an hour to get there I was greeted by a staff member and was told we are aerating the front 9, you can only play the back 9, which was aerated YESTERDAY. Had I known this I would have scheduled a different date to play this awesome course.
Front nine was beautiful with spectacular views.
The course (front nine) was in good shape, but they were aerating the back nine and we were unable to play the back nine. We played the front nine twice.
It would have been nice if they had made us aware of this prior to booking the tee time or us paying for the round. They did however give a discount for us to play the course again (before 12/31/13) so if we're lucky we can play it if the weather holds up.
A very challenging course
Arrow head has a medium length, but a challenging in term of elevated holes and hard to read greens. It is hard to judge the distance due to elevation and hard to read the green due to its location next to the mountain and speed.
Amazing topo, lose a few balls, pay some $
Arrowhead is perhaps one of the most scenic public courses in Denver (incl. the private courses...check out its website photos). 1/2 a dozen blind holes make shot choice a challenge (fortunately, I'd played there before). Water &/or very thick rough/scrub bush makes an errant ball tough to find. Expect wind (though we had zero until maybe the 17th hole!). At $115 pp, a bit dear for a public course in Denver (yes, there are top 100 course in US that go for $200-$500pp!). Range is 180 yds long so tough to warm up with the woods (which manifested on first tee!)
Arrowhead is awesome!!!
Arrowhead is one beautiful golf course! It played very challenging as the rough was very deep. The recent monsoon rains prevented the staff from mowing the fairways or rough. The greens on the other hand, had been mowed and they were super fast! The greens are always difficult to putt due to the speed and the fact that they are almost impossible to read at times. I swear that several times my putts were breaking up hill!! I enjoy the challenge though!! I really enjoyed my day at Arrowhead!!!!!
The setting is beyond stunning.
Everything was perfect. Greens like billiard tables, fairways were excellent, sand traps were filled with water due to a heavy rain throughout the evening...Staff was super friendly.
Slow play and inadequate course information limited our enjoyment. Beautiful course.
Play was incredibly slow. 5+ hours for a twosome in a cart. GPS doesn't give much info, other than distance to green from current position (no information available on distance to hazards or bunkers ) and the scorecard doesn't have a picture of the course layout on the back.
Had a foursome behind us that knew nothing about golf etiquette, they shouted, squealed brakes, cursed. Ranger did approach us on the 15th hole and we expressed our dismay and he spoke to the offending party.
Would love to refer my friends to the course as the course is beautiful and probably fun to play, but the cost of the round, the inadequate playing information and the pace of play makes me reluctant to do so.
Stunning
You won't find many courses as aesthetically appealing as this one. You spend more time taking pictures than reading your putts. Greens are super fast.
