Not in the best condition
We have played this course numerous times, but never experienced this number of poor conditions, Bunkers with more stones than sand, very difficult to get the club under the ball usually ending up with the ball cannoning forward rather than a nice lob. The greens were also freshly plugged which is never a recipe for low putting.
2nd visit......probably the last
Played here back in the winter and struggled with the mud. Came back as the layout is fun and interesting but unfortunately the condition of the course is not great. Fairways are pretty hard. The winter mud has turned to dry bare lies. The greens have obviously been hollow tined quite recently but the holes were huge. The result was putts that zig zagged across the green, short putts were tough. I can see they work hard on this course but feel particularly the fairways are if poor quality construction so muddy in the winter, very dry in the summer (Although it's only April). For what they charge I can't see us returning.
Poor Course Condition
Most greens are beginning to recover now but these were very bobbly with ball moving all over the place - hardly any grass on fairways
Unimpressed
Having played this course many times over the years, I’ve always found it well kept. However this course has gone downhill. I understand that it’s winter conditions however it’s a bog wherever you are apart from the greens.
Walked off after 9, not worth putting up for a second!
Having then spoken to the staff after the round there’s no remorse, even after having a fall on their paths. There’s no real care for the guests and so as a result I will not be giving a penny more to this club. A real shame…
Paid to much to play in a muddy field
Course was far to wet with mud everywhere including the greens, not great this time around and definitely not worth the money this time unfortunately. I understand that a lot of courses are suffering due to the weather but most sensible ones especially with hills are closed due to the slipping dangers, as Hennerton was open we thought it would be ok, we were wrong .
Far to muddy
Absolutely ridiculous, the course should have been closed, £42.00 it took me 3/4 of an hour to clean my trolly, the greens were covered in mud, will never go there again
Poor course layout
Really disappointed the first 11 holes are poor with several v short par 3 and 4's and do not take in any of the lovely views that are available from 12 to 18,
Also very annoying the clubhouse and bar were closed on completion of my round it was 18.45 and still light poor show really surely the clubhouse should be open til the last paying golfers have finished?.
Excellent course
A pretty short course but some excellent par 3s and in very good condition.
Very friendly staff.
Excellent bar and food options after the round.
Charming
Course is short. Need to know your way around. Playing off mats on some tees - strange. Quite narrow fairways - in good condition. Good greens - not the fastest. Bunkers ok. Practice are basic - poor balls. Small clubhouse but staff very friendly. Some quirky and interesting holes. A fun course. Great value. Would recommend for a fun round of golf.
Pretty
Very short. Good condition. Interesting. Fun to play
Short course, but somewhat tricky for high handicappers.
We enjoyed Hennerton, but made the mistake of taking our trolleys. Buggies are the way to get round this course as the first nine has some steep holes with rather dangerous, slippy pathways.
Not a challenging course for experienced golfers with reliable swings, but good for inaccurate golfers like me.
Pace of play was frustratingly too slow at times, e.g. with a queue of 9 or 10 players (4 groups) at the seventh. No Marshall around to speed up play.
Fairways were so so, but the greens were in excellent condition
.Staff were very friendly, and the nineteenth is well appointed and has excellent views.
First time playing Hennerton
Hennerton is a lovely short course which can be enjoyed by all. Playing on my own I could easily get around in sub-3 hours.
The first 11 hole are great, including some challenging changes in elevation and slopes. Greens are well constructed, and are more undulating than you think.
However, once you get to the “back 7”, there are only about 2 holes that are as enjoyable as the “front 11”. Let alone, the pace of play from a fourball can start to slow you down, after completing the “front 11” in 2 hours or less.
Bunkers were not in good shape, with hardly any sand and full of stones/chalk.
Also, as much as I’m a fan of a picturesque course, when the greens have been dyed, resulting in leaving your hands stained blue from marking your ball etc. it’s less than ideal.
I’d come back and play again, however would consider just playing 11 holes. My advice would be to pay £24 for 11 holes rather than wait to get a twilight rate for 18 holes at the same cost.
Hennerton
