Hole 18's View from Green Photo submitted by PulsarX on 02/10/2018
Prepare to be whelmed. Not over or under, just whelmed
Summer in TX and how do you run a successful business and not have the beverage cart going mid-morning/afternoon on a Friday? Make sure you load up before you go out as there aren’t any cooler or fountains along the course neither. Course plays slow, no one to keep pace expect a 5+ hour outing. Greens are completely different from hole to hole and there are water hazards everywhere!
Damon’s golf course review
Very good course
Plays a little bit short
If you hit it straight and stay in the fairway, you will have a good day, watch out for the water hazards they tend to creep up on you.
Staff is very friendly and the kitchen is amazing. Got everything you need.
Highly recommend if you’re in the Temple Belton area
Sammons Golf Course
Some greens had pos annua and are hard to putt. Fairways were OK but could be improved. There were so many people, and a marshal should monitor the pace. No carts were available for our tee time, but other people with later tee times already had the carts, and we were pushed back. The staff were not friendly. I may not return to this course.
Weird layout - no signs
My wife and I played this course for the first time. The starter, an extremely nice gentleman, took the time to explain the layout of the course, including drawing a map of how to get from hole to hole. We were paired with another first timer. Several times we had to stop other golfers and ask how to get to the next hole. The people all laughed and commented about their first timer playing there. Everyone was very friendly. The course itself was playable. The fairways lacked grass in places. The greens are recovering. Overall, an average course for this time of year.
Pretty Rough Conditions
Course layout is terrible. Pace of play was ridiculous. Once we got to the 10th tee we were backed up by 4 groups and called it quits. We couldn’t replay the front nine either because a scramble was starting. Need to figure out tee times so this doesn’t happen. 0/10 would recommend.
Be prepared for a 5+ hour round
The good: Greens were quick but receptive to approach shots. Pro shop worker and starter were nice, and professional. Food from the grill was fresh and delicious, would have been nice to order at the 8th hole so it would be ready at the turn.
The bad: Fairways and tee boxes were mostly barren or sand covered. Several tee boxes multiple players in my group broke tees simply trying to put it in the ground. Signage is needed to navigate this course and there is none whatsoever. Having played here 20+ years ago helped but simple signs with arrows to direct you to the next holes would go a long way.
The ugly: course management is lacking, there was no tournament or league going on but we started on 10 even though 1 was wide open. After playing hole 10, we had to wait for every shot, due to us being packed in like sardines. At the turn the back 9 was wide open but the starter was puting people on the front 9. Had to wait 5 groups deep to tee off on 1. Teed off at 10:30 and finished at 3:40.
Long story short, fun course with a challenging layout, but be prepared to play extremely slow and hope you can find your way navigating this wild course layout.
First time playing this course
First time playing this course It's difficult but very fun
6 hours to finish the round.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating they opened up the driving range for us when they didn’t have to due to weather. It was extremely slow even for being in the winter time we thought it was gonna be not very crowded, but it was. The course was ok the fairways were dormant and the rough was really green which I found funny. The greens were good and got really fast towards the end of the round. Lots of trash on the course though. All and all we had a great time because of the people we got paired with but the course was average at best.
Awful Conditions but Cheap Round
We teed off any 20 minutes late due to a backup. We still finished in 4.5 hours. So pace of play wasn't an issue for a Saturday.
Every single green had crabgrass growing in. Some worse than others. Could be the time of year but I haven't experienced this elsewhere. Tee boxes were horrific. Mostly sand/dirt. Also no water on the course on an 86 degree day was very surprising to me.
We only paid $35(hot deal) per person on a weekend. So I feel like the value was fine. Just feels like the course has gone downhill since I played last.
Course was ok, conditions were decent for winter weather. A bit confusing navigating from hole to hole. They need better signage. Hard to tell the 2nd cut from the fairways but all in all the course isn't too bad for the money. Will play again!
Long day on the course
It took nearly 6 hours for our round. There were at least 2-4 groups on every hole. I don't understand why Sammons lets so many tee times out.
