Hole 18's View from Green Photo submitted by PulsarX on 02/10/2018
Good Round!
The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in very nice condition. The only problem is the course layout that causes players to play to the wrong greens. The cart paths are confusing to say the least and to the extent that golfers have to ask each other which way is the next hole.
Worth the $40
Tough course playing in the wind with lots of water
You gett to test your skills on a pinpoint location course that can be devilishly tough in the wind. Lots of water
Nice but confusing
I looked forward to playing this course I had heard about water being a factor on a lot of holes I looked at it as a challenge to play. The carts were nice with GPS displayed for each hole.
It was confusing driving from hole to hole Limited signage and lack of direction made it frustrating. I liked the course and will be back to play it again The course was in good condition from fairway to green
Sammons Review
Great course. Makes you really think. Two par 3s into “island” greens. Many of the par 4s require less than driver. Layout is a bit confusing to figure out, but nothing you can’t work through. Course condition is fair, some greens could use a fresh roll, but nothing terrible. Overall a very fun track. 8/10
Excellent Staff!
The staff is professional and very courteous! They are very helpful around the club house and out on the course. The greens and fairways were in great shape and well maintained!! It can be a challenging course with the water but its a fun course to play. The pace of play has been slower due to the groups of more than 4 that are playing. A group of 5-6 on this course can really slow up the pace. Overall I would rate this excellent minus the pace of play!!
A course is a course, of course. But this course needs work
The course itself was decent, but everything else was poorly managed and vexatious. There are few to no signs directing from one hole to the next, which in several cases is a big problem. The carts have a GPS system that tells you if you're leaving the next hole, and several holes are some distance apart with virtually no direction signage to help new players navigate.
Second problem: The carts had a kill switch if you drove them where you weren't supposed to, which is understandable. The problem is that this was not communicated beforehand, so I found out the hard way, and these areas were not marked; some fairways were off-limits and others weren't so it was a crapshoot when you might have the cart die on you. Worse, the kill-switch prevents you from driving the cart back to the path so you have to push it a foot at a time before the automatic brakes stop. You try to push it ten feet and it can take 5 minutes of exertion. Ridiculous!
Lastly, this isn't strictly the course's fault but there was a foursome in front of me playing slowly and didn't let me through though I was playing solo in a cart and would have been past them in 5 minutes. Better reminders about etiquette and courtesy might address this issue.
In all, the course itself is fine, but the management and so forth leave much to be desired.
Had a great time even though dealng with light rain for the first few holes and having to deal with the Covid rules. Course was in good shape and pace of play was great. Almost like we had the course to ourselfs
Sammons Park Day 6 after reopening
First round at Sammons Park in many months. Hoped after the course was closed for a month that groundskeeper could have made the place shine.. New GPS on carts is very tough on its boundaries and will come to a complete stop!! Stay on cart paths for all par 3. Better signage would be helpful for guidance around course! Especially around the 8th hole tee box. Better signage overall , filling in off all pot holes along cart path. What has happened to several of the greens . Hole #5 green looks like a practice tee box filled with so many divot marks.. All the greens had greens cut very short and edges very burnt looking, not what I expected in May and after a long break from playing.. Overall,, glad to have open again and it is playable but wished for better greens as always!
Sammons Golf
COVID safety precautions were great. Fairway in good shape. Somewhat disappointed in greens due to brown spots.
Good Times
Finally had a chance to get out and play a round of golf after the shelter in place orders were lifted here in Texas. I am a high handicapper and let me tell you, they extended layoff didn't help my game.
Sammons is a great municipal course that was recently renovated which has made the course a little more challenging now. You definitely have to think about your shots or you'll lose a few to the many water hazards throughout the course.
Overall, it was a great experience!
Quick round
First time here, will go back.
Fantastic customer service and very friendly. Easy to get registered and ready to play.
Course was pretty good and surprisingly a lot of water holes. Lost a bunch of balls but it looked like they were draining their lakes. Lots if bills available to retrieve but who cares. It was muddy.
If I can shoot a 96 on my first real time out, then it must be a pretty easy tract.
I liked it but a bit hard to navigate.
Iron Shots
You need to have confidence in your iron shots to master this golf course.
Top notch Staff & with the “Best Burger in Temple”, this Golf Course is best any expectation.
Not a golf course
It is a crime to call this a golf course. There is no distinction between the fairways, rough, greens or tee boxes. Clearly a municipal course that’s been left to die and developed in the near future. Do not under any circumstances pay to play here. I’ve played at many courses across North America and have never felt the need to leave a poor review until today. Golf Now needs to discontinue their relationship with this course, it’s a disservice to their members to offer them tee times here.
Busy day
Great day for golf. They had a tournament so it was CRAZY busy. Wish I would’ve known somehow that there was tournament going on I would’ve booked for 9 instead of 18. The staff was amazing, as always, and the course was good, as always. I absolutely love playing at Sammons. Great, great course especially for the money. Always look forward to playing there.
Great Value and Great Staff
Had a great time playing with my son. We actually had 2 people we met play along with us. Cart wasnt ready when i checked in because they were so busy and while i was on the driving range the staff brought it to me. Great time. Good course and good value. Excellent staff.
Nice course to play
I had not played the course in a very long time. I was pleasantly surprised with the condition, of course, considering the time of year. I look forward to playing again in warmer weather.
