Really nice little club, great value for money
Managed to get a Friday afternoon tee time at a weeks notice on the Kingfisher, which is 9 holes that you play twice with two flag positions per green.. Not too busy at all and didn’t feel rushed, but the course layout can be confusing if it’s the first time you’ve played with a lot of the tee boxes close to each other and limited signage to direct you to the next hole.
That said the greens were immaculately kept, undulating and challenging for the average golfer with the fairways tight but no water hazards and rough that isn’t too punishing on the majority of holes. My main criticism would be that the fairways are not watered at all and in places felt like concrete. Given we’re in the middle of summer you don’t get to take any divots with most iron shots, especially in the middle of the fairway.
All things considered a great value for money round on a decent course that would suit most mid to high handicappers. The general surroundings are very picturesque and the clubhouse was lovely with friendly staff And more than one bar or lounge areas that you can sit comfortably, including a very generous outdoor seating area.
Would definitely come again.
Since the change from 18 to 9 hole the course has really gone downhill
1. Sadly they have cut out the best part of the old course for a vineyard which leave the balance of holes very samey.
2. The fairways were atrocious and like we were playing mid winter after several herds of deer had trampled it. Very uneven which meant no matter how good an approach shot you hit in (some greens too fast to pitch on so have to pitch in front) it was a lottery as to which direction it would bounce in as that was never straight.
3. Green speeds very inconsistent which made putting had as you either went 8ft past or left it 8ft short on the next!
I used to play the Kingfisher every week until I moved away from being local. I am very disappointed as it could still be a great course if they maybe enlarged some of the greens and had a flag for front nine and a flag (and hole!) for the back nine. Rusper used to do this when they first opened and it worked really well.
For a course / club with the name Mannings Heath you would expect better..
Excellent facility. Good 9 hole course but suffering from all the rain.
A couple of greens with big puddles abd a bit marshy elsewhere but still enjoyed the round
So disappointed
Where to start. Pro shop was closed at 415pm despite a 420pm tee time booked and paid for. As a first timer did not have any idea where I was going (didn't even realise there was two courses until I almost teed off at the wrong course), eventually I found one sign half way up the car park.
Found the course, over the road, out of sight and out of mind from the rest of the club. The course was in bad repair, again really poor signage which meant going from tee to tee was extremely confusing. Not one rubbish bin or bench on the course, although the practice range for the players warming up for the main course (that you have to play quite literally round 3 sides of) had lovely benches. This about sums up this course. One green water logged, several bunkers filled in with literal debris and rubbish and no real signs of groundskeeping. Tee boxes were in terrible condition and fairways poor, all looked infested with moles.
I genuinely paid £5 less for a full genuine 18 hole experience at Lingfield park last week and would rather repeat that every single day of the week.
Precious reviews on here suggest it used to be a much nicer course but it now feels like a glorified pitch and putt run by a local council.
I've never been more disappointed in a course.
Overall poor - which is a shame
First visit to the kingfisher course and was expecting big things judging by the impressive facilities and set up. To my surprise however it feels like this was all aimed towards the waterfall course, with the kingfisher course left to rot!
Poor course conditions, no bins anywhere, no water in the ball washers, broken down cart left in the middle of the fairway, waterlogged greens.. the list goes on???!!
I’d be asking for my money back, if this was any other service or event. Regrettably I won’t be returning as it put me off getting it a second chance. Shame. The only positive was the warm welcome at front desk. Sadly after that it went down hill quickly.
Good value
Now only 9 holes instead of 18 - all good holes and as a two ball was amazed at pace of play - when playing 8th hole was aware several groups had clearly just started their round but when we got to 1st tee for 2nd time no one on it and we never had to wait on a shot. Greens challenging simply because of the slopes and were a bit slow but all in all a very enjoyable round with great views good condition and all for £25
Clubhouse and outside seating very nice and prices high but not ridiculous.
lovely old school English country course
This is a great golfing complex with an 18 hole and 9 hole course so they can accommodate all comers. I have played both recently and my only criticism would be that the pace of play was extraordinarily slow on both.
Excellent but slow.
A fourball with two buggies ahead were very very slow. They eventually let me thtough. However the course is excellent and beautifully maintained.
A nice 18 holes
A nice 9 hole courses , condition was good and good value
Not the best condition.
First time playing here, and I’m a beginner but keen to try as many courses as possible. I found the signage poor, the fairways and greens to be rough and patchy. I also didn’t like the fact that the driving range was very near to one of the holes; the fairway scattered with range balls. One nice view but nothing to write home about.
Disappointing
Having played the excellent 18-hole course at Mannings Heath, I was surprised at how poorly maintained its nine-hole Kingfisher course was. The green keeping staff are evidently spending all their time on the main course, which possibly makes sense. On each of the nine tees there was virtually no grass. You were teeing up on a bumpy, hard surface. The fairways in general were dry, hard, full of holes and in need of repair. The greens for the most part were acceptable, though again there were many areas in need of obvious maintenance.
Poor
Disappointed with the overall condition. Half the course and half hearted conditioning. Bare patches on fairways greens and tee off area well think there was more soil than grass
The course was in immaculate condition and the greens were her good. Definitely recommend
A shame
Sorry guys - been playing Kingfisher for years. Great value for money and a varied round of golf (course) - and well kept. BUT NOW; half the course,, the half with most of the best holes, has become a vineyard, making this a 9 hole, plodding parkland course. Couldn't muster energy to go the full 2nd 9 - just not enough variety or challenge there now. I understand why you've done it, the course maintenance is still great AND it's still a beautiful tranquil location (with a lovely clubhouse) BUT you've killed the appeal of the Kingfisher (£21 is also now too much).
There's scope to mix it up a bit with new tee boxes for the 2nd 9 - you could get some radical new angles going the second time round. Otherwise it's now just a learner course (or warm up for Waterfall).
A shame, my friends and I have had MANY great rounds on the course, but hey, change happens - hope the wine is good!
Couldn't agree more. We only realised the second nine had been sold off after beginning our round and talking to another group. It's now too expensive to compete with regular 18 hole courses in the area and it has lost most of its charm. Shame
