Wet but enjoyable 9 hole hidden gem
This lovely track is hidden away in the Lincolnshire countryside, near the village of Potterhanworth. Me and my playing partner were drawn in an open match-play knockout first round fixture played at this course.
It was wet and boggy in patches but the fairways were no better or worse than most courses, what with the recent hammering of rainfall.
The course has 9 greens with 2 pins on each, making it an 18 hole course. Whilst relatively short in yardage, it is well thought out, and, there is one genuine par 5 and four par 4s which are testing.
The highlight for me was the 220 yard par 3 6th. The pin on the front 9 is located on a top tier which is 30 ft higher than the bottom tier where the pin was located on the back 9. Whilst the tee remained the same, the hole played very differently when comparing the front and back nines (3 clubs difference for myself!).
There was only 1 temporary green in place when we visited and the other 8 all played very true with some tricky undulations to keep you on your toes.
The members we played against were more than hospitable and the staff were also very friendly and food we had afterwards was top notch (Thai curry).
There is a net, a small practice ground and a putting green so enough there to have a decent warm up before teeing off.
All in all, given the weather has not been kind recently, I would definitely recommend a visit and will be returning myself in summer time to play the course at it’s very best.
A little gem of a 9 holer
I found this course when looking for somewhere to play casual golf. I was a 15 handicap but stopped membership due to work commitments and now only play for pleasure.
This is one of the best 9 hole courses that I have played and beats the others locally. All the holes are different and there is even a par 5 with a very tight drive and a par 3 over 200 yards. It has 9 greens but 18 tees and flags so can get a little slow but for £12 offers great value. The club/bar serves good food and the staff are friendly.
