Some interesting holes but quite scruffy
I’ve played here once before and again it was in the winter so I can’t say what it is like the rest of the year.
All of the holes were playing off temporary tee mats and most of these were difficult to get a tee in to. The greens were dry and fairly quick but a bit bobbly and many dead cert puts ended up drifting either side of the hole as a result. Only one or two wet patches, mainly on the back nine.
The course has a good variety of holes and some of these present a good challenge but it is quite scruffy between tee box and green although the fairways were cut quite short which gave a little bit of ball roll. The bunkers were dreadful and didn’t look like they had been raked for a long time. A lot of the bunkers had clearly had animals walking through them and the foot prints left behind meant that we agreed to rake the sand and place the ball so that we had a chance of playing a shot out.
We only paid £20 per player and over all it was just about ok for a friendly knock around a course in the winter sunshine.
Lots of work going on
Come the spring with the changes currently going on this will be a more challenging course.
Nice course friendly people
Have played the course several times and it has always been in good condition. Played this time in very cold weather but the course was still in decent condition. Both staff and other players are alway welcoming and helpful.
Love Priors
This course was in pretty decent nick considering the weather. Its was muddy in places, but the bunkers have recently had the sand replaced and made playing out of them almost a joy. The greens were superb and the course held up well. You can tell the club are trying to improve things, a couple of the tees are being replaced and playing of the winter mats was actual good as it gives you stable footing
Disappointing
Had heard good things about Priors Hall, but having visited for the first time today I left disappointed. Whilst the course has a good layout and is probably a good course for the summer I found the lack of info from the pro shop disappointing. The 1st hole was shut(not informed of this on check in) which was a shame as ghis is an attractive hole with an elevated T and the signage between T's was poor. Many t areas were roped off and the winter t's were not obviously placed. The greens were good although, due to being a hilly course, there was quite a bit of course damage due to battery buggy use. I will return but probably not until next summer.
Priors Hall
Really good experience, 0716 tee as a single and a 3 ball at 0708 let me off before them which was really appreciated. Unfortunately no normal Tee boxes were in play but the substitute mats were, in general, very good. The greens were in great condition, and the greenkeepers were out early to make sure that the greens were cut and leaf blowers used to clear the greens and fringes. There was a nice variety of short holes, some challenging blind tee shots, and good bunkering on the approaches to par 4/5 holes that made the round a nice challenge. The approach shot up the hill up to the 18th green is impressive. Overall I would highly recommend this course.
Very good course
The winter tees were excellent and the greens were in brilliant condition as was the rest of the course.
Recommend it to anyone. Has some lovely difficult holes. Perfect for all.
The first tee was out of use, and the group in front would not allow us to play through and we were waiting 4-5 minutes every tee
Great place to play
Very good price, lovely course and a beautiful spot to enjoy a drink at the 19th hole. Staff very friendly and we even got a free warm sausage roll
Stay out the bunkers
Love this course, 1st tee is amazing, upto the 18th will almost put you in hospital, but the bunkers are big and placed to truly annoy you, wish to bunkers had better sand or massively sieve out all the stones…… A Great Course really
Very Challenging
Great course, just some on the tee boxes quite worn and a lot of leaves in the edges, a great course though and highly enjoyed it, just save some energy for the 18th……
Thank Heavens for Priors Hall
A most entertaining round. Really enjoyed the course.
Mid-week game, course quiet.
Back here just five days after my previous round, this time we had no problems with ignorant players around us.
We got round in just over 3 hours compared to the 4hrs+ previously.
We play off the Yellows, they had mostly been moved forwards to coincide with the Red tees. After this long hot dry weather, the tees were a bit threadbare and maybe to be expected.
Didn't spoil the game at all. We'll play here again.
Great Course - Awful Golfers
Arrived at 2 pm and was told the 2.08 was a solo, so we should have no problem with our 2.16.
Wrong - the 2.08 was a four-ball with absolutely ZERO concepts of golf etiquette.
Firstly they didn't offer to let our two-ball play through.
Secondly, they didn't even tee up until the previous players had cleared the first green, then promptly proceeded to not even hit the ball halfway to the hole...
This continued throughout the entire round; one of the players is a member at Oundle (badges on his GPS-controlled motorised caddy - he can't even hit the ball.
The fairways were fast and true, greens a bit variable.
We came off at 6.15; the clubhouse was locked up. Everyone had gone home. Poor show.
Then again, it is run by the local council.
