It's not all bad
I've not been here for 8 years but the price made it too good to miss. Let's start by saying yes, the place is looking tired and somewhat deserted. The pro shop was closed and I had to hunt for a member of staff just to check in and get a scorecard. First tee box (and the 17 after it) was mildy long, but nothing to whinge about. The fairways however, could with a mow, and in many quite large areas need a flatten and some seed as it appears a herd of buffalo have stampeded through Watton. The bunkers all had sand in them and I didn't see any with grass growing through the sand. The sand was quite solid though making for a tricky recovery. The greens have the spongiest surface I've ever walked on. You could clearly see the footprints of everyone who had played that day... All 12 of them. The thick spongey moss-like grass was quite bumpy and had the odd weed here and there, but ran quite well considering. All in all I think at 12 quid it's good value. It's golf. It's not posh golf, but it's not posh money either. I hope some improvements can be made before the warmer months as I would wanna pay much more for a summer round in the same conditions. Fingers crossed they can find some money as its a cracking track with great features and challenges. Will definitely be back
Very poor
I previously played this course a year earlier and in very wet conditions so thought I would give another chance when dryer.
The course was in very poor condition. No fairways and where there were supposed to be fairways it had looked like someone had been across on a dirt bike and everything was churned up. The greens were very mossy and slow. We finished our round at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and was looking forward to a nice cold one in the 19th but the bar was shut! (Closed at 3). There is potential for this to be a lovely course but it is in need of a lot of TLC. For the price we paid there is better courses in the area for the same money or slightly more. Will not be playing again
Very poor
Birds have been left to destroy half the fairways and tee boxes. Greens are full of moss and frost damage. General course condition and facilities are tired.
Will not be back
Fairways were terrible
The course is local so that's good , but the condition of the tees and fairways was awful. I don't know what's happened but they were compl8churned up. Greens were acceptable.
Golf now stole. Ony from me with out my permision
I put my Cary detail In To the application without my agreement you chaved me 28£
I did it go go the golf in Richmond because is wasn't the right golf course but you changedme for that.
I could not cancel I didn't not have the right to do it.
I will ask my back to get back my money and I will report this act.
Needs a lot of work
I really wanted the reviews I had read to be wrong but sadly they weren’t.
This course has the potential to be an absolute gem. However the tee boxes were poor, fairways easily confused with rough, bunkers lacking sand and the greens cracked and broken up in places.
If the club spent the money that the course needs on it then it would be a gem, until then even the twilight rate seems expensive given the overall quality.
Needs major TLC.
Could be a really good course but is uncared for. Fairways rough and rough is just basically left so is far too long. Some interesting holes but generally has not improved at all since we last played.
Hot day!
Really enjoyed our round. I like the course and they had out lots of water ok the greens in the really hot weather which was impressive.
Need a better stocked bar and a shaded seating area outside.
Would go back
The condition of the course has vastly improved since the pandemic. There are a few areas on the greens that are damaged, and a couple of tee boxes that could be better, but it’s by far the cheapest course around and is good value for money.
Good course. Could be excellent
We played the course on the hottest day of the year to date. As such it was millionaires golf - we were the only people on the course.
. Booked via Golf now it was reasonably priced
The fairways were in very good conditions and greens generally ok with a few with damage
Signposting between green and tee could be better and one of the bridge’s was broken and cordoned off Looked like it had been that way for some time. The walk to the next fairway wa not signposted or short. the pro shop could have advised us but didn’t.
Bunker sand was good but with a bit of TLC they would be very good.
Couldn’t use the facilities as it was shut when we finished the round.
All in all a very nice visit at a good course which could be excellent with some care and attention.
Good value for money
Not as bad as expected
This course needs some real tlc both on course and amenities wise. Many fairways covered in daisies and some areas of some greens were bare and cracking. However it is a testing course and has a number of water features and with a lot more effort could be a very nice course.
Richmond park near Watton
Not a bad course for what it costs and considering all the rain in the last week, I didn't take a score card as usually use the watch, had to download the score card on the phone as couldn't find the next hole on a few occasions, signs would be a good idea.
Also greens nice and short but not in very good condition, putts going towards the hole, probably not going in but randomly hitting bad areas and kicking the ball off in a different direction, would re visit though in better conditions to see if improved.
Course condition
Course is in poor condition has been for quite sometime! No differentials between rough and fairway! Bunkers overgrown and tee boxes ravaged by mole hills on some holes also on fairways you can see where mole have moved below the ground as the ground is raised
Other reviews of this course are very harsh!
I was concerned about what to expect from this course after reading other golfnow reviews. I am very pleased to say that I do not agree with the previous reviews at all. We played this course is the middle of a very wet winter and the conditions were great considering the weather we had been having. There was the odd patch of standing water but I have seen worse on many other courses. All in all the course was well maintained and very playable, we had a great day on the course and we’re made to feel very welcome in the clubhouse bar after.
Don’t listen to the other reviews, this course is great, the staff are lovely and you will have a great time!
Needs Investment
Played a round 27th October and the course and clubhouse have huge potential but desperately need investment.
The fairways were very overgrown and hard to differentiate from the rough and greens very poor.
It is a shame as it is a very pretty course and really hope someone invests in it as it could be a lovely course and clubhouse.
Poor poor poor
This course is essentially a playing field with flags in. The “greens” were shocking (mud patches, holes) if I owned or managed this place I’d be embarrassed.
The photos below are the greens
