Not as bad as expected

This course needs some real tlc both on course and amenities wise. Many fairways covered in daisies and some areas of some greens were bare and cracking. However it is a testing course and has a number of water features and with a lot more effort could be a very nice course.

Richmond park near Watton

Not a bad course for what it costs and considering all the rain in the last week, I didn't take a score card as usually use the watch, had to download the score card on the phone as couldn't find the next hole on a few occasions, signs would be a good idea.

Also greens nice and short but not in very good condition, putts going towards the hole, probably not going in but randomly hitting bad areas and kicking the ball off in a different direction, would re visit though in better conditions to see if improved.

Course condition

Course is in poor condition has been for quite sometime! No differentials between rough and fairway! Bunkers overgrown and tee boxes ravaged by mole hills on some holes also on fairways you can see where mole have moved below the ground as the ground is raised

Other reviews of this course are very harsh!

I was concerned about what to expect from this course after reading other golfnow reviews. I am very pleased to say that I do not agree with the previous reviews at all. We played this course is the middle of a very wet winter and the conditions were great considering the weather we had been having. There was the odd patch of standing water but I have seen worse on many other courses. All in all the course was well maintained and very playable, we had a great day on the course and we’re made to feel very welcome in the clubhouse bar after.

Don’t listen to the other reviews, this course is great, the staff are lovely and you will have a great time!

Needs Investment

Played a round 27th October and the course and clubhouse have huge potential but desperately need investment.

The fairways were very overgrown and hard to differentiate from the rough and greens very poor.

It is a shame as it is a very pretty course and really hope someone invests in it as it could be a lovely course and clubhouse.

Poor poor poor

This course is essentially a playing field with flags in. The “greens” were shocking (mud patches, holes) if I owned or managed this place I’d be embarrassed.

The photos below are the greens

When it’s finished…

No club shop, paid online could of just turned up and paid for free, which currently would be a fair price. Fairways not cut properly and ones that are have grass cuttings left on them. Greens are brown and covered in rabbit droppings, bunkers not been touched since the 2nd world war. No signage so wandering around aimlessly looking for next hole. If you miss the fairest by 2 foot your doomed ad grass is thick and covered in grass cuttings. This course could be amazing as the layout is superb, but it’s dreadful right now.

Could be better

This course could and should be a lot better, the fairways are a bit long and the rough is really long

Won't be going back there

Don't worry you'll have loads of time to find your ball in the rough that hasn't been cut for a year because of the 4 ball in front refusing to let you play through. Typical locals course, place is falling apart and people stare like you've just slapped their nan. No where near worth £20 a round until they cut the grass, even just a little bit.

The 18 hole is insane, dont hit it long whatever you do, you'll get sued for damages for sue.

Looks abandoned

Booked through tee off times as have previously played at Richmond park and was a great course.

Turned up with no cars in the car parks and everywhere shut up, no place available for scorecards, we managed to score on phones.

Arrived at the first tee and noticed the rough was incredibly thick and the fairways did not look like they had been cut for sometime.

The greens had virtually turned into moss, hadn’t been well looked after at all.

Overall the course was in poor condition and myself and playing partners did not fee we got value for money playing here.

CUT THE ROUGH

I believe the green keepers have watched Bryson DeChambeau in the us open and thought that Richmond park is a championship course. It’s not. By any stretch. Never spent so long looking for balls which are 1 foot off the fairway. The bunkers have got less sand in them than Antarctica. The greens are made of moss which makes them impossible to pitch onto however very slow to putt on. Shame. This course used to be really nice. Have heard that they are trying to sell so doing minimal work on the course. And you can tell.

A lot of potential

This course has some excellent and challenging holes but is in need of some TLC. Bunkers were all GUR, the rough was extremely long and most balls that ended up there were unfound. Greens looked a strange colour but played fairly well. We teed off after 12 noon so paid £18 each - would not pay the £28 before 12 noon price.

Potential but lacking TLC

Course has good holes which provide a good challenge however the course was let down by the length of the fairway and rough. A lot of time spent looking for balls that were in the ‘fairway’ or marginally off it.

Greens were very odd too in colour but played ok.

Could be a cracking course if the fairways were kept in better nick.

Casual round

The course was awful, greens were terrible, the fairways were like you were in the rough. On every hole we had to look for our ball even if we hit fairways because the grass was so long and with the mud on the ball it was just impossible to find it
