Royston Golf
Considering all the bad weather we had in the last week, course still in excellent condition. Greens were great, we all enjoyed the day out and will be returning again.
Too public
Had too many dog walkers to contend with, it's not just a golf course. We had radio controlled cars going across a green we were pitching onto at one point. Won't be going there again.
Not a course for faint-hearted!
It is definitely the most challenging course in the north London area. It is very hilly, has small greens and many blind holes. If you are unfortunate like me to play on a windy day, the difficulty is three folds. If your ball doesn't stay on the fairways, it is almost certainly lost. The club needs to improve on its sign posting between holes. Positive points; great staff at Proshop, good greens and good meal at The Heath (next to hole 18).
Pot Bunkers!
Cracking course, old school pot bunkers, beautiful greens and amazing tee shots from elevated tees!
Great course but would benefit from better score cards with hole guides
Challenging course both in terms of shots and distance/elevation walked with immaculate greens. Where it could improve is help in the hole hazards and topography...lot of hit and hope tee shots needed first time round!
Clubhouse isn’t located on the course. Directions to clubhouse and course we’re not good. If you are a first timer here you better give yourself at least 45 minutes prior to tee time to get to the #1 tee. Put your walking shoes on this course is hilly and a tough walk!!! No amenities anywhere on the course. Pro shop lacking for a £40 course. Great layout and it is TOUGH!!! You will be mentally and physically wore out after a round at Royston.
First time twilight
Hello, I really enjoyed the course. The greens were the best thing about the course today. Some picture perfect holes. The hills/valley were no joke but it has finally made me move on and get an electronic trolley. I’ll be feeling it on my legs tomorrow.
Will be back and it’ll be more enjoyable as I’ll know where I’m hitting balls into blind spots up and down the course.
Has a links feel
Pros :
The course is challenging , with some superb holes which have a parkland and links feel.
Cons: Super hilly
Amazing course
Absolutely loved the course, not the longest but with the wind in play, it certainly made a number of the holes really tricky. Great condition, and the greens run true and again are in fantastic shape, some are tiny too, so precision is key.
Cannot recommend highly enough. I’ll be back
Excellent round
First time at Royston - very impressed. Hilly, challenging, great views. Lucky to be in a quiet patch so no other players nearby so able to really appreciate the complex layout and location. Will definitely be back.
Great course, challenging all the way
Royston is a favourite of mine. It is very tough for its length, like an inland links, really up and down as well and winds challenging. You have to think on every hole and if you get a couple of bad breaks the score racks up. But it certainly has made me a better player; and if you live miles from the sea like I do this is the closest to a challenging links you will find.
Don't play this course if your toupee is not secure!
Fantastic course - very exposed to the elements but in excellent condition. My group had a cancellation due to a course closure in Norfolk so we detoured to play this inland as it was en route to our destination. Didn't know what to expect, and we were all very happy with it. Don't think any of us had played in that wind before, but felt it prepared us nicely for coastal links golf! Thanks for accomodating at such short notice.
Hills and more hills
Played this course yesterday and the first thing you notice is where is the first tee, a par 5 away, then all your doing is climbing hill after hill, you need a buggy for sure otherwise you will be absolutely shattered by the end of your round, greens were poor, sanded and not really running true, the only thing I can say is when you are at the top of the course the views are great, but for me not a enjoyable round of golf
Wow
What a course!!! It’s been on my doorstop for years but didn’t think I was good enough to play there...everyone was so friendly and helpful (especially when we had to ask a few times where the next tee was). Condition of the course was first rate...we are definitely going back..
Decent but could be better.
Course is very hilly. There’s just far too many hikers, walkers and kids running around on the boundaries of the course. Obviously that is very annoying but it’s also very dangerous. There should be a ban on members of the public walking around the course. They shouldn’t have any access, particularly as the course is extremely hilly and you can’t always see who’s walking across the fairway - you think it’s clear and you hit one and then as your ball is at peak height you suddenly see a couple of heads appearing over the hills - right where your ball is heading.
I got this course for a hot deal at £19 which I think is a fair price, seeing that it is £30-£35 at other times I think is overpriced.
One of the best and most challenging courses in this area
A fantastic course with everything other than water, presents many challenges particularly for the more aggressive golfer!
