Canyon West Golf and Sports Club

About
The scenic ranchlands west of Fort Worth are full of rugged canyons, native wildflowers, and impressive elevation changes, all of which are incorporated into Canyon West’s design. Located atop Parker County’s highest summit, this 1997 18-holer incorporates all of those North Texas Hill Country features and more into its design. Waterfalls, miles of streams, exposed rocks, prairie grasses, wildflowers, and loads of oak, pecan, elm, and mesquite trees highlight the landscape.
Elevated tees offer views of the countryside. In addition to the scenery, golfers are welcomed by generous fairways that make this a fairly user-friendly course, especially given its reasonable yardage of 6,653 from the tips and the fact that water comes into play on only about half of the holes.
Other notes: During the week, the course offers seniors a two-for-one green fee. Walking is not allowed.
Getting there : From Ft. Worth, go west on I-20 and take exit 403. Cross left over the freeway and then make a quick right onto the service road. The entrance is 2.5 miles down the road.

Great but could be better
This course is an awesome layout for amateur golfers. It has enough challenges to keep it interesting, but without causing round-killing frustration with ridiculous greens, etc. That said, there are still some apparent concerns about the financial picture. I say that because this course needs to be watered A LOT MORE during these hot and dry months of the year. Furthermore, the greens need to be mowed more often. We played yesterday, a Friday, beginning at 4:00pm, and the green speeds were barely as good as a small-town muni course. Not acceptable in a semi-private club. All-in-all, it was a very fun round and we will be back!!
Great course with amazing views
First time playing Canyon West and it was great. Course was laid out nice with great views. The pace of play was really good too.
Nice track
Course is being upgraded since Weatherford college took over. Above average.
Johnny behind the counter is a pleasure to deal with and the cart girls are always making the loop.
View from the bar upstairs isn’t to be missed.
Canyon West
I would recommend this course to anyone looking for some challenges. Has some easy holes and difficult ones. The weather was perfect.
Great course
I’ve played this course pre-COVID when it was under original ownership and after it was sold to the 2nd. owner. Course conditions were ok and in need of watering grounds maintenance. This new owner (3rd.) is spending money on it and many improvements have been made. The course conditions have been greatly improved and worth the drive to play. Course conditions are a 7.5 to 8.0 out of 10.
Canyon Best
Love this course, and it is in my rotation of courses I play. Love the views. The homes aren’t right up on the course, like a certain course in Granbury. Elevation changes make it interesting. Greens were sanded, but the hot deal was 18 bucks that day. Good day to work on fairway shots. Staff is always great, and I even lucked out with a cart where the GPS was fried, so no getting locked out on the cart. Nice feeling not having to worry about that. Breezes and wind are important, when the temps were in upper 90’s. Weatherford never disappoints with the breeze. One of my 4 regulars like stated earlier. Always enjoy a trip out West.
Cart path only
Overall great course. But, didn’t understand why it was cart path only. No areas of standing water or other hazards. All said, I’d go back again.
Good round
Didn't play well but not due to course. Greens were slow due to aeration but knew that before started they will be good in about a week or two. Course overall in great shape. Carts are still good and staff very friendly.
Really enjoyed it
The amenities are great, service was awesome, and the course was in great shape. I highly recommend it
Good course
Enjoyable round.
Only critique would be slow green speeds.
However may be getting ready for aeration.

Slow play
People have no golf etiquette. Its real simple if your group cannot see the group in front of them let the group behind you go through. My group was a twosome and we had a threesome ahead of us that were so slow the group ahead of them was 3 holes ahead.Took us 5 hours to play 18 holes instead of a normal 31/2 to 4 hour round. If there was ever a course that needed a Marshall,Canyon West definitely does. Most courses open to the public can have full time Marshalls just by letting them have couple of free rounds of golf per week.Just a suggestion.
Great Course
Course in good shape for Texas Summer. Carts have GPS. Roving cart girl to keep hydrated.
