Visit to Widnes
Even tho the course was wet we still really enjoyed our round, the pro couldn’t have been more helpful, there was a minor issue with him being a Liverpool fan and me and my playing partner being evertonians, but once that was gotten over with he was excellent, full of advice for the course and amenities. I’d really like to go back in the summer to see the course playing longer and faster but for a mid November game of golf it was very enjoyable. Will visit again
Don’t bother.
The presentation of the course was abysmal! The amount of litter along the OB line/ edge of the course on the first few holes was grim. Also, the steam running across he first fairway is a health hazard, was full of litter, cardboard, and what looked like oil.
The greens were soft, uneven, and even had weeds growing in some places.
Pace of play was perfect until some local members decided to jump in on the 14th to which we were then waiting around for 5 minutes at a time per shot.
The layout and fairways/rough was ok and the tees were bare in places.
I honestly wouldn’t bother playing this place, for 26 quid it’s not value for money at all and you may as well spend a little more to play a proper golf course!
1st time playing here wish I hadn't bothered
On arrival for a our tee off the Pro shop was shut so no way of getting a score card. The grounds keeper said they are usually outside but none had been left. On the course whoever designed the course must of been off his Barnet tee boxes crossing each other on numerous occasions and at least 6 of the greens where out of action. At £30 for the round I've been to municipal course that are better and cheaper, talk of build house on it and making into a 9 hole course on this showing its got to be a better option.
Tight course which makes you think . Some good risk and reward holes
Been playing here for the last year , course in best nick i’ve seen it . Greens excellent and really quick and true despite recent rain .
Nice course but expensive
Always like playing this course but not sure why prices have gone up so much. Won't be playing again until prices are where they should be.
(£25-£28)
Great condition, immaculately kept
If you're not on your A game with the driver then leave it in your car. Great looking course, every whole beautifully lined with trees. Lovely to look at but miss the fairway and you'll be punished.
Friendly staff, great course, would play again
Was ok
Was ok for a play. Tight course as informed hen booking in. Seems as if maybe it was a 9 at one time made ot an 18 ?? though just guessing.
Staff very friendly, course in average condition. .Signage direction between tees not good at all.
Great Course just a shame not Twilight Golf Rates offered
Would recommend the course to anyone to play. It was in great condition and it is a good fair test for golfers of all abilities. Staff very friendly. Only negative was not option of Twilight Golf rates. We teed off at 5.30pm so no chance of playing 18 holes with darkness but still had to pay full normal daily rate for 18 holes.
Good value round of golf at a tight golf course!
First time playing at Widnes so wasn't sure what to expect. The pro was friendly and very helpful on arrival, pointing out where to go for the next tee on some holes and a few tips for our game. Was quite busy and got stuck behind a 4 ball for a few holes but they let us through eventually. Course was a good test with some tight tree lined fairways and accurate tee shots are a must! Condition wasn't amazing but after the heavy rain the last couple of weeks, it was probably no surprise that the course was soft and wasn't cut short with some cut grass still on the ground. Greens were okay but a bit bumpy with the softness. Lots of pitch marks on some of them - why don't people repair them?? Had a drink after and the staff were friendly. A good variety of holes (long and short, straight and dogleg) although par 3s are a bit samey. Good value for money, overall a good round of golf.
Well maintained course
course management is a must on this course as very tight fairways great challenge greens are well looked after and nice challenging course
Excellent, tight, little course.........
This was our first time playing here and we were not disappointed. Fairways and especially the greens are in immaculate condition - the ground staff should be given a lot of credit for this!
Big hitters off the tee will need a maximum of 8-PW for their second approach shot into the immaculate greens for the vast majority of the holes. There are a lot of crossovers on the course so you need your wits about you! I heard players shouting ‘fore’ numerous times and balls landing on our fairway from adjacent tees throughout our round which I found comical.
There was a 4 ball in front of us, who were all members. They were friendly, polite and welcoming. Their speed of play was outstanding which meant we were not held up on the next tee - other 3/4 ball players and other golf courses take note!!!!!!
Overall, in my opinion, this is a great course although compact. The many crossovers are just a very, minor negative.
Many courses are really struggling for members and finances at the moment and will do so for sometime, with uncertainty over the current pandemic and looming financial crisis. It’s vital great courses like this continue getting the basics right in order to survive.
Would I play here again? Most definitely.
Would I consider joining here? Yes.
Our day was thoroughly enjoyable and that was because of the outstanding work of the ground staff and the pleasant 4 ball who were in front of us!
Thank you.
