Not what you think
Course was in bad shape. Conditions less than par. Greens and fairways had bare spots and the course was overgrown. Bunks…grass and weeds not sand.
Unique Track
Course has had several setbacks from what it used to be. Some of those being uncontrollable and unfortuante. You can see the progress from last year. Greens were 80%, fairways although grass covered were rough in spots with weeds. Very unique track for the money. I'd play again for a discounted rate.
Awful
Played here several years ago and loved it! Unfortunately, this was not the case on this visit. Not really sure where to start with the conditions (or lack thereof). There wasn’t a single aspect of this course that appeared like it has been maintained. Difficult to tell where fairways ended and rough/fescue started, greens were pretty much impossible to putt on, etc. Seems like they are just letting it go, which is sad! Will be surprised if they’re open much longer. Save you money and play anywhere else.
(The staff was very friendly tho!)
Hidden gem
Great links still layout course. Hidden gem right outside of Kearney, course layout is perfect for the surroundings.
The golf course is alot better then last year. The greens are coming back nicely only bad one is 14. I'm just glad it's back to being playable golf course. It's a fun course to play.
Course maintenance seems to have been MIA all year
I know it is not suppose to the as bad as it is. I don’t know what the situation is or the challenges they face as a golf club but needless to say they have not figured it out yet. I really hope they are able to make this course back into what it was made to be. Great potential to be a top rated public course in the state but is currently one of the worst courses I’ve played this year
Horrible conditions
There is no reason for this course to be this bad maybe if ownership changed it wouldn’t be in this poor condition.
Not worth the money to play.
Roughs were full of sand burs. Tee boxes were in terrible shape. Some didn't have hardly any grass. No walkways were mowed so you could get to the tee boxes. We had to walk through weeds to get to the tee boxes. Hole #14 on didn't even have a green. Just a flag sticking in the ground in the fairway. No one mentioned this in the club house before we started. Very disappointed in the condition of the course..
What happened?
I’ve played this course several times over the past decade, but I have never seen the course in WORST SHAPE! The tee boxes were terrible. Many greens were partially destroyed, and several fairways were sparsely grassed at best. I heard that the course was in bad shape in the early spring season, but it looked like they hadn’t even attempted to remedy any of the previously mentioned problems. My son even took pictures and sent them out to family members to illustrate just how bad the course was. I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed for the course!
Horrible Condition
This is the worst conditioned golf course I've ever played. Totally unplayable. Cups hadn't been changed in weeks, first cut of rough was unplayable with10 inches of unmowed weeds, bunkers were unkept weeds and mud. They should close this course!
Didn't think it would get worse
Played earlier this year. Per my title, it has gotten it worse. Rather than details of dead fairways and total green loss of #14, I just wish the owner from Colorado would sell it to someone from Nebraska so we'd have better leadership / ownership. This could be a central Nebraska gem with the links type layout, but it has gotten worse with this owner. Hope he feels rotten using this for all his tax write-offs. Homeowners are getting ripped off out there. Beautiful homes, poor maintenance course.
