My playing partner. 80 years old and still nailing his drives! Photo submitted by JettSpot on 07/11/2017
Excellent!
We were party of three, good, intermediate and beginner (myself) really enjoy playing there (especially with Golf Now rate which is cheaper than resort offered). The course is in excellent condition though green is a bit fast, but fairways are nice and wide. Javier was our excellent helpful casdy. Recommended!
I thought it was OK resort golf. I understand why a caddie is required because there is no yardage anywhere and you would get lost from one tee to the next as things. Whole resort is in development with temporary clubhouse about a mike from the course. I was paired up with a boy & his mom even though course was wide open just due to limitation of available caddies. Caddy was very nice but couldn't read a putt. He had a Garmen range finder for yardage.
If you want a pure golf experience, albeit not convenient, go to Vista Vallarta which is all golf but this place is OK and will get better over time.
Fast greens, lots of water comes in to play, well manicured
I played here March 24, 2017. I found a 'hot deal' on golfnow of $102 USD while I was on vacation at the Vidanta resort where the golf course is located. Rental club fee was excessive at $70 USD considering the newness and quality of the TaylorMade clubs offered, but that did include two sleeves of TaylorMade basic golf balls. I played with just one other single and we shared a forecaddie. Recommended tip is $22/player. The course is considerable distance from the clubhouse which seems to be temporarily? located in the bottom of one of the condo units. I played the other course here several years ago and there was a dedicated pro shop elsewhere on the property that is now a restaurant. This resort is always under construction so I'm sure it will move again. Looks like they are currently buidling a par-3 course at this location as well (9-12 holes?). The pro shop is big and has everything needed and there is an attached restaurant/bar on-site as well. You travel for about 5 minutes by golf cart to get to the practice range and first tee area and travel over the longest golf cart suspension bridge over the Ameca River. This river doesn't come into play on the course but it is kind of an interesting way to travel to the course. They had just recently opened all 18 holes here about 4-5 months prior. My playing partner told me the golf course was severely flooded when they were about to open the 2nd nine. Course conditions seemed great to me. Fairways are firm and fast, greens are firm and medium speed. Water comes in to play on many holes. I think all but one par 3 has a shot over water. Our caddie was very helpful and friendly. Wind definitly comes in to play in the typical afternoon trade winds. 1-2 clubs difference at times. Beverage cart came around several times during our round. They also have an oddly located snack (and full) bar that you drive by on 4 and 15 but it looks very nice. I think once some of the landscaping matures, this will be a more interesting golf course. Pricey course considering it's not on the ocean and doesn't have stunning vistas of other courses in this price range.
Hot Deal Rate About Right
Considering the cost of a mandatory Forecaddie, the Hot Deal rate of $90 was about right for this course. Paying a rack rate of $250 or even the Twilight rate of $150 would be too much for me.
The layout was simple yet challenging as greens are firm and fast with plenty of roll off into adjacent collection areas. Played the Blue Tees at 6850 but it seemed to play shorter as the fairways are also firm. The paspalum plays a lot like fescue at this stage of its young growth.
Pace of play was very good and management is using forecaddies to keep people moving along. It's a good management practice but should be included in a more reasonable rate.
I had a fun day and would play the courses again.
Greg Normann Signature
Excellent, fun course to play! Forgiving fairways with plenty of traps!! Greens very fast! Undulating greens!
Norman Course
Beautiful course and lot's of fun. Our caddy, David, was super and speaks excellent english. The bummer was that my Garmin and my Golf Buddy, although up to date, did not have the course yet even though the course has been open a year.
Nice Course But-
The course is nice, has a nice track and the greens were good, but the cost of the course is way over the top for you get. there are far nicer and more challenging courses in the US and Canada that you pay less than 1/2 to play. If it wasn't for Golf Now discounted rate we would have probably not played the course. The course has no elevation changes, the water holes are easily worked around and the sand bunkers do not really come into play if you stay online with the green.
If it wasn't for the pace of play (3:45) and the less than half price to play, the course may have left a mediocre experience for me.
needs at least 2 years to grow grass on fairways
fairways need at least a couple of years to grow grass on fairways...minimal grass to hit ball from...hitting off of hard pan can be challenging. Elevated greens with severe run off in several directions makes it difficult to hold the green, especially when the greens are hard and firm (goes back to need more time to grow grass on greens). This will be a very good course in a couple of years, assuming the grass fills in on the fairways and greens. Play the Nicklaus course either at Vallarta or Vindanta
Great Golf in Paradise
I spent two weeks in Nuevo Vallarta and played this course twice, each experience was exceptional. Great views wide fairways. I had only used a caddy once before this trip so I didn't know what to expect. No need for concern, both Mario and Leodel (sp) were OUTSTANDING! They were expert in their knowledge of the course, patient, professional and fun. They were a great source of distances, club selection, course knowledge and speed of greens. They made my golf experience at the Norman course one I will long remember...thank you gentleman. Save by taking your own clubs!!!
Nice but not great
Nice staff
Fast elevated greens
Most holes very much alike not overly beautiful course
Playable wide fairways but lacking in signature appearance
Get a deal tee time price or you will feel you overpaid
A Great Resort Course
The Norman course is new, when mature this will be an excellent Resort Course. The design is well above average for a Resort Course. The greens appear to be a combination of a Ross and Jones design influence; most greens were slightly elevated with false fronts and crowning to the edges. An approach shot must be accurate or it will roll 10 to 15 yards off the very fast greens. The speed of the greens and the ability to hold shots may improve as the greens mature. The course is a par 35 going out and a 38 on the inward 9. The short par 5's allow the average golfer a good chance for a par or birdie, while the more skilled golfers can attain an ego boosting eagle. Arrive to the pro shop at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled tee time, you are shuttled a long drive to the warm up area where you are assigned a cart and caddie. We played twice in a week's time, both caddies were tremendous. This is a must play when you are in Nuevo Vallarta.
Perseverance brought this course to life
It was worth the wait for this one.
I'd been hearing about the Greg Norman Signature Course at Vidanta for more than two years, so it was great to finally see the opening day come Nov. 14, 2016.
A short clinic by Norman highlighted the grand-opening ceremony and marked a proud day for everybody involved in the project. The course was in such marvelous condition that nobody would have guessed how many obstacles it has overcome to open: first, a flood of the Ameca River, and then the rains from Hurricane Patricia in the fall of 2015.
On opening day, the wall-to-wall paspalum grass ran firm and fast on the fairways and lightning-quick on the greens. Most of the fairways seem as wide as the runways at the nearby airport. Norman used water and some cool indigenous trees to create drama, especially on the watery par 3s (nos. 3-5-17) and par 4s (nos. 9-15). The scorecard says the layout is a par 73, but 72 1/2 is probably more accurate. The 450-yard 12th (blue tees) is a short, relatively easy par 5 even I can reach.
Norman built enough tricky angles and slippery green surrounds that scoring isn't easy but having a good time is.
The course could get even better next year. To protect against further flooding issues, the first five holes are going to be replaced with five new holes located adjacent to and across a canal of water. The new holes look killer tough but very intriguing. I look forward to seeing and playing the final product. If they live up to their potential, this could be Mexico's latest five-star course.
Greg Norman
Great golf course. In beautiful condition and the green s are fast and roll perfectly. Mandatory caddy on top of the golf price but he was great!
Great round, great service
I live in Puerto Vallarta and enjoy playing all of the courses in the area. This is one of my favorites.
Not only is it a fun course to play, but it is a excellent course if you want to play a practice round in order to sharpen your game. This course is perfect for working with your caddie, taking multiple shots, etc.
It is also a great course for entertaining clients.
If you're a long hitter you'll love this course. However the tees and fairways are set up perfectly for ladies, juniors and seniors. The whole family will love playing here.
The course is always in excellent condition. The staff is terrific and the rates through GolfNow.com are fantastic.
Enjoy your round!
Awesome experience
Course was in great shape and played fair from appropriate tees. Caddy is mandatory, but well worth the extra $44 for the two-some. Hector helped us navigate around the course and we play our round in 2 1/2 hours!!! Hector also kept us away from the 10 foot crocodile on holes #8 and 14 that was beached under a tree!!!
All in all, a great round at a well kept course and a great twilight deal, as always, from golfnow!!!
