Winter Update
Fairways are dormant but playable. Tees and green complexes are in good condition. Greens were running a little slower than normal with a bit bumpier conditions due to the frost and moisture. Overall an excellent place to play that is in mid winter (for us) condition.
Best Course in Fresno/Madera
If I lived in Fresno this would be my home course. This is about my 6th time playing and I've never been disappointed by the course conditions. Carts are GPS equipped, greens roll true and fast and staff has always been friendly.
Course is fun with all kinds of challenges but not overly difficult. If you're in the Fresno/Madera area this is the course you want to play (Pheasant Run in Chowchilla is the other great course in the area)
Holiday
Course design is still fantastic
Greens a little beat (compared to normal) from amount of play and end of summer heat, but still very good overall
Pace was slow but is typically much better, this was clearly a holiday traffic jam that could have been alleviated with easier playing conditions
The Dragon
I play here all the time now that have e-club deals going on and the gps on the carts is super handy. The course is way spread put so it's a chore to walk it. I like most of the course except holes 3, uphill par 3 and hole 4 with all the green side bunkers. Where they get you us at the bar, super expensive beer and unhappy staff.
Best Daily Fee Course In The Valley
Dragonfly, formerly called Riverbend, is one of the best daily fee courses in the Central Valley. Links style layout, very open off the tee, not many trees. Great fairways, large undulating greens, makes hitting your approach shot into the right area on the green very important. Six sets of tees gives every level of player the opportunity for a fun or very challenging round.
Tournament conditions
We played after an NCGA event. The course was in fantastic condition and was set up with thicker than normal rough (wiry wrist breaking stuff) and many greens had difficult pin positions.
Overall-5- The great design combined with the improved conditions make this one of the best places to play in the area.
Pace-3- 4.5 hours on a Sunday after a tournament in tough conditions and as a fivesome.
Course Conditions-5- The greenskeeping work by the new owners and the tournament setup was a pleasure to play.
Staff-4- Friendly and helpful.
Value-4- Though above average area rates the quality makes the price worthwhile.
Food-3- Limited but good, this was built as a players course so the shop/bar is small. Not sure if there are plans to expand.
Facilities-4- Great practice facilities and everything is well maintained.
I highly recommend a round or several.
New owner = Dragonfly
The name change is not the only change happening here. The conditions were better than I can recall in recent years. There is a lot of money/time being invested to bring about the changes, as was evident in the heavy machinery working the course on a Saturday. The cost structure is above the normal Valley courses. This has always been a great design and with the renewed emphasis on conditioning and service, it is worth the price. This is a not a course for beginners or those struggling with their games.
course was fine
Second time I booked a tee time from GolfNow for Riverbend, and the second time they didn't honor the golf cart fee that was stated on GolfNow. You should take the Riverbend course off from GolfNow!!!
A must play!
One of the best course in the central valley. This course will challenge your skills with water hazards and bunker locations. A beautiful course!
Great course if you get a deal
To start, I would never pay posted rates to play Riverbend. Having said that, compared to the other public and semi-private courses in the central valley, this is my favorite. Sure, the fairways were dormant during the winter and some of the greens were a bit soggy, but the challenge and layout are superior to most courses in the area. The practice area is pretty nice. The pro shop leaves A LOT to be desired and the snack bar isn't quite what you'd expect from a course like this, but overall, I keep going back. I've played it at least 5 times this year already and will keep going back as long as I can book on golfnow. com. The other poster's comment about them not honoring the stated cart rate is true. When you book for the walking rate, golfnow.com says a cart is additional $10 per player, but the course charges $15. I walk, so it doesn't matter to me, but that's something you should know if you want a cart.
