First Time Playing

5 hours to spare

First time playing here and I was very impressed. Greens were extremely nice even though they were punched about 3 weeks ago. Fairways were excellent and the tee boxes were good as well.

My only complaint is the pace of play and the lack of a marshal. It’s tough to blame the course when any sense of self etiquette could relieve the situation. Even then, it was extremely busy for a Tuesday. I love this course but I won’t be playing here much due to the pace of play being so slow.

Enjoyed my day of golf with best friend and my nephew. This place is gorgeous ! Course under maintenance but was still a great round of golf. Staff were amazing and very helpful. Grounds were well kept. Great job everyone. Just the right amount of challenge. We look forward to a return match.

Hidden Gem

I was visiting a friend in Fresno this past week and stumbled across Dragonfly Golf Club. I read that Dechambeau practices out of the facility so I knew it had to be good!

Course measure 7,734 from the "Way-Back Back" tees which was an exceptional challenge. This course was an amazing value for $59 as the layout was great and conditions were even better.

I would recommend Dragonfly to anyone in the area. Any golfer could have a great time at this course do to the various tees.

Great course to challenge your game

This is a great course to play! The layout is very fun and challenging. Especially if you don’t keep your ball in the fairways! The staff is always friendly, and the course is always kept up.

Dragonfly. A Fresno-Madera Gem

Dragonfly's charm is that each hole ask's for a different shot from the golfer. Good mix of straight away, left and right holes. Bunkering is strategic and the par 5's are deceptively difficult especially if you get out of position. Greens are relatively flat and some are quite large. There are two to three particularly challenging tee shots. Hole #9 with a split fairway is long with a complex green. Hole #11 is a hit between the oaks drive with a plateaued green. Fun and challenging. The 18th is an easy birdie hole, really a long par 4 that plays as a 5. This course also has many tee boxes for all golf levels. Bryson DeChambeau grew up on this golf course, played from the new "way back" tees...or the Bryson tees as we call them...this course stretches to 7700 yards, the 3rd longest in California. I prefer the whites at 6300. Enjoy. The staff is friendly and the cart girls are usually well trained.

Summer 18'

Played 6-3-18

The course is green everywhere.

Tees had only occasional divot areas on par 3s, all other holes were good coverage with a few spots where they have started to settle and have slight uneven lies, but always able to find an area that is flat.

Rough has been let to grow out slightly and is actually a good barrier against offline balls going into the deep trouble.

Greens were fantastic, smooth and on the fast side.

The course was surprisingly wet in many areas and made the course play longer and made run up shots a roll of the dice. (many shots require this approach or chipping technique and the soggy surrounds took away the option on many holes)

Sand was very hit and miss, rock hard to perfect for the bunkers our group members played.

WATER for drinking!!!

There are no fountains or spigots on course. There used to be a few coolers placed on course with bottled water available. No longer. Temperatures in the Valley are over 100f for basically 3 months straight. It is unacceptable to not have water. One of our group reached heat exhaustion level from dehydration. It would not only be a courtesy to players to find a solution, but is a health issue.

New Sand in the Bunkers!!!

Dragonfly is finally doing some major maintainance on the sand traps! It looks like they are following suit with other courses in the valley and overhauling the bunkers. I can't wait! Not that it will help my pathetic sand play but that's another story. I was in 6 bunkers today which ranged from poor to ok at best. The good news is that within a few weeks the bunkers should all be very nice.

As for the rest of the course, it's still in great shape. Greens roll smooth and true. I will say that I'm curious about their mowing procedure. The speeds were all over the place on the front nine. They were consistently on the medium/slow side on the back nine.

Fairways are still dormant but very playable. Beverage cart was out making the rounds as well.

Best course in Fresno/Madera

Dragonfly is always a go to course while in the valley. Fairways and tee boxes are completely dormant but offer great hitting surfaces. The color of the grass may be brown but the lies are great. The fairways feel like your walking in a soft sponge. That softness did kill any rollout from the driver but offered a very nice hitting surface on approach shots.

Greens were a little firmer than normal but still rolled nicely when putting. This is only my 3rd time walking the track. Whereas it is a completely flat course there are some long transfers between a few of the holes.

The 18th has now gone from a long par 4 to a short par 5. That is unless you're playing it in the summer afternoon headwind. Then it's a bonafide par 5.

There was no beverage cart out but being a weekday with expected rain, I can totally understand that.

Pace of play is always average here. I was stuck behind a five some who wouldn't let me through for 8 holes then I blasted through the remainder of the course.

All told this is a solid track with very nice playing conditions.

Course plays very slow as no marshalls

Played on Thursday and followed a 4 some and went around in less than 4 hours. Liked the course so well, we decide to play next day. Big mistake as Friday and there were more golfers and no marshall. We were stuck behind a 6 some three groups ahead on the front nine and it took almost 3 hours. The group broke up but by then it was jammed up on back and again no marshall. Course is very nice, but not well time managed for players. Their solution to speeding up play was a message on the gps telling everyone to play faster.

Enjoyed This Track

Played here on a Thursday morning as a twosome. We were among 3s and 4s, but still finished in 3.5 hours. Loved the layout - a links feel in the San Joaquin river bottom. Although mostly flat, there aren't many straight holes, and the trees mean you get to play lots of different types of shots. Tees, greens, and fairways were all in excellent shape, especially considering that last week was record heat. All staff we ran into were friendly and helpful. Nice range/practice facility. No water out on the course, but free water provided in the cooler on the cart and a cooler was available to restock at the turn. No beverage cart on the course. Recommend this course and we will definitely play here again when we have a chance!

Love me some Dragonfly!

We have had a lot of rain the past month in the Valley, and Dragonfly probably handles it the best of all Valley courses. The course drains pretty well (other than the bunkers), so we find ourselves playing out there a lot in the winter months. Dragonfly also has some nice specials ($39 with cart after noon on weekends), where nearby Eagle Springs never has such (always $75 on the weekend). The course lay out is fun (sort of a "links" feel to it) and the greens run pretty true. There is not as much rough as in years past, should your ball find its way off the fairway. The carts all have GPS. One small complaint: when they first obtained the GPS on the carts, we were able to summon the cart girl using the GPS, and she would know exactly where we were and would come calling. They removed the "Cart Girl" feature from the GPS-boooo! Everything else at Dragonfly is top notch. Only other issue is pace of play, at times, on weekends. I have followed 6-somes before out there, and there is no marshall to keep pace of play up.

I always enjoy my day out at Dragonfly. Fore!

Winter Update

Fairways are dormant but playable. Tees and green complexes are in good condition. Greens were running a little slower than normal with a bit bumpier conditions due to the frost and moisture. Overall an excellent place to play that is in mid winter (for us) condition.

Best Course in Fresno/Madera

If I lived in Fresno this would be my home course. This is about my 6th time playing and I've never been disappointed by the course conditions. Carts are GPS equipped, greens roll true and fast and staff has always been friendly.

Course is fun with all kinds of challenges but not overly difficult. If you're in the Fresno/Madera area this is the course you want to play (Pheasant Run in Chowchilla is the other great course in the area)

Holiday

Course design is still fantastic

Greens a little beat (compared to normal) from amount of play and end of summer heat, but still very good overall

Pace was slow but is typically much better, this was clearly a holiday traffic jam that could have been alleviated with easier playing conditions

The Dragon

I play here all the time now that have e-club deals going on and the gps on the carts is super handy. The course is way spread put so it's a chore to walk it. I like most of the course except holes 3, uphill par 3 and hole 4 with all the green side bunkers. Where they get you us at the bar, super expensive beer and unhappy staff.
