Royal Hawaiian Golf Club
About
Nestled at the base of the Ko'olau Mountains in Oahu, Royal Hawaiian Golf Club enjoys a stunning tropical setting framed by ancient jungle trees that climb to more than 100 feet tall. The father-and-son team of Pete and Perry Dye designed the course. There are many telltale signs that this is a Dye course, from the many elevation changes to the varied bunker styles that are utilized throughout. The round begins with stunning views as you plunge downhill into the Maunawili Valley. There are more trees and narrower fairways on the front nine, contrasting nicely with the wide-open back nine. Royal Hawaiian Golf Club's back plays towards the mouth of the valley, offering a view of the mountains and sparkling blue Pacific waters in the distance. It's not an overly punishing golf course but locals and visitors alike have called it the toughest and most scenic course you'll find on Oahu.

The course was the most beautiful course I've ever seen and played
The course was very beautiful and challenging. The views of the jungles and plant life were completely amazing. I will always remember hole 11 aka "The Pond" due to it's similarity to hole 17 at the TPC Sawgrass. I will definitely be recommending this course to friends and people visiting Oahu.
Very Nice course!!!
I booked on Golfnow and got a great deal for $72 and club rental was another $35 (comes with 2 sleeves of balls). The taxi ride there from Waikki Beach was 30 mins and cost about $55 each way. As for the course, it is a beautiful course nestle in the Jungle of Hawaii. There are views for pictures on every hole. The course was difficult but I'm used to difficult courses back home so no big deal. I lost only 4 balls, partly because lack of course knowledge. This is a must play course on Oahu!!!!
challenging track.
Currently several holes under remodel, when complete course will be great.
Beautiful surroundings
Nice course but greens were not in very good shape. Played it last year and really liked it, not as well this year
AMAZING
Ive played 7 courses on Oahu, Kahuku is my home course. Royal Hawaiian is OFF THE CHARTS compared to all the others Ive played. The challenge of the holes gets you thinking like you are playing chess. Miss the fairway and theres a good chance you will land in the jungle and never see your ball again. It is an adventure, and an extreme challenge. The beauty is breathtaking. Bring 50 balls cause you will lose them.
Part of course was under construction. all for the better.
Little forgiveness for arant shots and keeping it in play was a must
pace of play was great not many players on course possibly because of construction. Would play again recommend you try this you.
Most scenic course on Oahu
I've played just about every golf course on Oahu and this track never gets old. A must play while visiting Oahu. The scenery is amazing as you travel deep into a tropical rainforest. They are going through some minor modifications, but it's still a steal at only $125. We even received free transportation from Waikiki through HiGolfGuide. Play here and you won't be disappointed!
Challenging course and enjoy the scenery
The course is in good shape, but they are doing some modifications, for the better. The course is tight, it is in the middle of a lush rain forest. It is not a very long course but very unforgiiving on errant shots. Enjoy the views of Jurasic Park. If you never played the course before you should play it twice and see what a little course knowledge will do for you.
Really enjoyed our experience and look forward to playing there again!
Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our experience from the online booking, to the friendliness of the staff, and the challenging course. A drawback, well, some of the holes and range were under renovation. However, these renovations will positively add to the course.
One of the most beautiful and well kept courses on oahu
We play here every month or two and always love it here. The staff is always friendly, and the course is always in pristine condition. Even though they are undergoing renovations, you will have fun on this course. The front nine is great, but the back nine is awesome! After what feels like the longest cart ride ever to the 11th hole, you end up deep within a tropical rainforest valley. I'm always excited to get to the back nine, away from civilization, and enjoying the natural beauty of Hawaii. You'll need accurate iron shots and drives to keep it out of the jungle; lost balls are in the weeds by the dozens. Though its challenging we still enjoy coming out every so often.
I will definitely play here every time I come to Hawaii.
This has been my third time to play and have learned to know the breaks of the course. I have played conservative and has improved my score. I plan to play here every time I am here in Hawaii. Even with some major construction, the course is beautiful, Looking forward to the new improvements of the course.
This course is challenging.
it's one my favoriate golf course, made me challenged.
Each hole have a ravine in the fairway, both side are hazard, narrow and up and down hill, no flat area in fairway.
In thesedays, they are doing lots of renovation, and arranged the course. Green condition is best, wedge is fine and clear.
Like playing in a rainforest
Great course. Hard to believe they carved this out of the jungle. You are rewarded for good shots and pay the price for bad ones. Bring extra balls since if you don't keep it in the fairway chances are you won't find your ball. They have been doing a lot of renovation to the course and I look forward to the many positive changes I see taking place. It is a beautiful and peaceful place. Would be nice to have a bar serving liquor and food. Right now just a snack bar with beer and soda.
spectacular course but know your distances
the views at the course are beautiful: the first nine goes along the hillside, then the back nine goes into the rainforest. in order to have a good score, you need to know the distances of each of your clubs: there are so many places you can get into trouble, but you can be safe without sacrificing your score. or you can hit for distance, and can lose a lot of balls. the fairways are undulating and some of the sand traps are amazing craters.
there is also a par 3 [#11] that mimics Sawgrass #17. Pete Dye designed both courses.
there is on-going course improvements: there are some new greens and tees being added; presently there is no driving range; and the course card is a xerox of the old card [there is no helpful layout image], making some of the blind shots even harder.
CHALLENGING, DEMANDS ACCURATE SHOTS, COURSE IN GOOD CONDITIONS
Beautiful course "shaped in the mountain", challenging due to narrow and slopy course with small greens. Very well maintained. Friendly staff. Certain holes are currently going under re-shaping that promisses further joy for the challenging golfer. No restaurant but a snack point with friendly service for stopping by at start and after first 9 holes when playing in the afternoons (snack closes at 4:30 pm) A beautiful 11th par 3. A course for somenone looking for Hawaiian inland mountain scenary and challenging golf. My wife and I won't miss it on our next holidays in Hawaii.
The New Luana Hills!
Luana Hills was purchased by Pacific Links Intl and renamed to Royal Hawaiian. Although the course is undergoing a lot of renovation they have done a great job at keeping it open, playable and fun. I can't wait to see this beautiful course when all is complete.
Beautiful scenery
There was some course construction going on but they have an extra hole on the course so we were still able to get in 18. Quite a challenging course but it's such a fun challenge especially with such beautiful mountain views. Even living in Hawaii I admired the beauty of this course. Best deal in my opinion.
Driver or 3?
Almost every hole has you questioning if you should drive, or play it safe. At every tee box, the sight gives you the yardage to "Ravine". Bring lots of balls, and have fun with it! This course has you reaching for your camera as much as the next club. Truly, beautiful. The cart path on the back nine is like a trip through Jurassic Park. We saw more wild boar than golf carts! There was some improvement construction going on, but don't be deterred. If you have limited golf time on vacation, this would be the must golf course. Highly recommend this course. The cart guys meet you at the parking lot, and take good care of you. Pro shop guys were very helpful too. If you want beer, bring your own cooler. They will ice down beer in a plastic bag otherwise. Like all four courses I golfed on this trip, No beverage carts! Must not be the thing at Honolulu courses.
Beautiful and fun to play
It is hard to find. The address on the tee time confirmation was wrong and my GPS took me to the wrong place.
Extraordinarily beautiful / Extremely challenging
Course in transition. Lots of construction going on as golf is play. Greens were just sanded and aerated so difficult to assess quality. I had fun anyway.
