Richter Park Golf Course
About
Situated at the heart of Fairfield County, Richter Park Golf Course is situated along the West Lake Reservoir. The course has been ranked among not only the top ten golf courses in Connecticut but also as one of the top 25 public courses in the country. The course sprawls across more than 180 acres of gently rolling hills. Water has a prominent presence throughout, with the Reservoir bordering seven holes on the front nine and water hazards coming into play on a total of 14 holes. In addition to the water, there are a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic, which can make it a tough golf course to play your first time. Be prepared for a few blind shots. Richter Park's signature hole, the par-5 12th, is bordered by Boggs Pond. Your third shot will be over water to a bunkered green.

Richter Park during fall foliage Photo submitted by dplevin11 on 10/05/2013
Don't miss it.
Richter Park is one of the most beautiful public courses anywhere. Exquisite is not too strong a word. Each hole is lovely, challenging and distinctive. Local knowledge is a must due to the many lakes, elevation changes and fast greens. If you are looking for a superb course in a stunning setting, its Richter.
The Play was WAY TOO SLOW
I use to play Richter quite often when I lived in Danbury but as I am no longer a resident I only play there a couple of times a year because of the cost. However, I have always loved the course, it is challenging, well laid out and very pretty. Unfortunately, it took us 3 hours to complete 9 holes and by then it was so late we could not complete the 18 holes. Where are the starters? Why was it backed up on EVERY hole? Why wasn't someone out there moving things along? Very disappointing. The date we played was Sunday, July 14th. Also, the greens are not in very good shape at all. Not sure what is going but they were not good.
Great golfing experience.
Richter Park is a terrific course. Course was in great condition. Staff was great. Hope to return soon.
Alhough the course is not up to standards from 2005 It s a good buy for twilight only
some fairways still have irrigation problems after rain. greens uneven. Course is run well except after twilight everyone disappears. Still scenic and the foliage was beautiful
Good challenging layout
This is a fine golf course, and challenging from the back tees. There are a few holes that have blind tee shots and taking a quick ride forward in the cart to see where to hit is recommended. Played on a day when there was heavy rain in the morning, and was "path only". Given how wet a couple of fairways on the lower part of the course were, it made sense. The greens were a little slow, but not too much so and it's a public track getting a lot of play, so that's reasonable. The views are great, the course is good and well worth playing.
Great value!
Course in great shape, even after recent heavy rains. Nice variety of holes. 2 par 3's all carry over water. Picturesque. Accuracy is essential, not power. Best muni I have ever played. Played from the whites, but would be much tougher from tips. Look for twilight specials for best deals.
Overrated and overpriced.
For what they charge the conditions should be better. Sure there are a couple of nice par 3's over water but the par fives are dull and all the curved holes play left to right. There are many other courses in this price range I would rather play.
great views
amazing golf course to play on a daily basic
great holes
enjoy the whole day
Always a test and a pleasure!
Always a pleasure to play here. Scenic course with fair but challenging layout. Doglegs that test your skill and focus. Greens and fairways in surprisingly good shape this early in the season.
Great course.
Wonderful blend of long and precise holes. Greens rolled true. Used every club in the bag. No gimmes.
Slow play
Ended up stopping after nine holes 2:40 min to play the front
Side on a cold windy day. Greens still need some work.
Play this course !
Found a Sunday 4 pm rate for $35; can't beat it. I drove an hour on short notice to play Richter, and glad I did. Can't wait to go back. If it's your 1st time here, you'll need some local knowledge due to many blind shots. Course gets a lot of play, a few bumps and marks near the pins, but overall a very well maintained muni. Highly recommend.
Simply my favorite course ever
Played last Fall and the foliage was awesome and fairways lush. Every hole is different. Amazing course layout. Can't wait to get back there.
one of the finest public courses in the NY/NJ/Connecticut area
I hadn't played Richter Park for the better part of 20 years, and I had forgotten what an interesting, and often beautiful, layout it was. And even playing from the white tees (approx 6,300 yards), the track played tough. And after a full summer of play, Richter was in great shape, with reasonable levels of sand in the bunkers.
I should also note that the staff, particularly the Director of Golf, was extremely helpful and welcoming, an attribute that will bring me back. Very high marks to all and I'll be back as soon as I can.
