Black at D. Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course

Course was in good shape for a February golf day in the Northeast.

Always enjoy playing @ The Wheel. Staff extremely friendly and accommodating. Weather always make the Course interesting along with the changes in slope. Not many short holes so good use of driver and long irons. Groundskeeping does excellent job in maintaining course conditions. Would definitely recommend tis course if you haven't already tried it. Both courses are a fixture in this Community.

Thoroughly enjoy this course! Because of predicted weather the pace of play was fast! This course offers many challenges and weather can totally change your game and score. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Some holes are accessible for those just beyond beginner but plan to use a variety of clubs!

Nice course requiring a lot of different shots. I appreciated the width of most holes. Not terribly tight but not wide open either. Some elevation to make things fun. Greens were in good shape.

Note that many of the greens have small false fronts which seem to help with drainage, but also caused some softer conditions. You want to land your approach shot on the green if possible, otherwise it may not bounce up.

19th hole was great. Good food and dranks with friendly service!

The black course has a beautiful variety of holes which includes 4 doglegs, and 5 holes with elevated tees which are all straight holes, and the rest are straight holes with level tee boxes.There are 3 holes were a stream comes into play and a par 3 17th hole over a pond.There are a coupe of holes with thescue which gives a partial links style look to the golfers. I enjoy the par 3 holes, some easier and some challenging.The entire course will allow players to use every club in the bag. The tees and fairways are in great shape, the bunkers are now maintained well and greens are moderate speed. I have played this course for fifty years and it is a gem of a layout. The pace of play is great. Our twosome played 18 holes in 3 and a half hours.The course offers a nice driving range $5 for a bucket of balls of 45 count,a very large practice putting green, a terrific head professional Steven Roach and his entire staff who are super friendly the moment you arrive.The dining area is name Tommy's Restaurant and it is owned and operated by the well known Vazzy's restaurant. It has great food! Great golf for a great price! Also, the club runs a terrific first tee program for kids each year. I donate as often as I can to give kids a chance to enjoy the game of golf we all love to play.Please inquire at pro shop on how to do so. Thanks to all at the Wheel as it is known!

Staff is always friendly and ready to help, nice layout for all levels of players

I play ‘The Wheel’ as a backup whenever I am playing last minute as typically easy to get on. My son and I grabbed the first tee time (7 am) and headed off with another twosome. After seeing them tee off from the blues and score a combined 19 on hole 1...we politely asked if they minded if we play ahead.

We finished the round in private club time of 2:30.

The course become more beautiful with the morning dew of early fall. When you can play with no wait and early morning...The Black Course becomes something special. But don’t expect this to be the norm. Plan on a 5 hour round on a course littered with high handicappers!

The staff is typically friendly with the exception of one starter who is known by locals as perhaps the meanest and cranky starter anywhere in golf!

Play early and you will have a fantastic time!

What a great day on the golf course, quick play , great conditions, recommend it to anyone!!!

I played here for the first time on the Black Course. It’s a lovely course. Fairways are fairly wide and forgiving. The bunkers, especially near the greens are challenging are the water hazards are limited. The greens are a bit slow and a bit bumpy when I played. But overall, I will return to play again.

18 holes in 3 hours, that’s great, greens and fairways in great shape in spite of the amount of rain the day before, would recommend this course to anyone looking for a great day!!!

Conditions weren’t so good, the course has gone downhill. Greens very slow and bumpy. I won’t go back.

Well run public track with some beautiful holes. In very good condition considering the amount of play. Wonderful to see the First Tee participants learning the game of golf there. Excellent food and surprisingly fairly prices at the turn at Vizzy's (if you have ever attended a PGA event you know what I mean... $10 hot dogs at Bethpage PGA!!!).
