Golfer Reviews
Terribly Maintained
They desperately need someone to start caring about the quality of this course. Every single area had grass that was way too long, including the greens and fringes. Where the grass wasn't too long was only that way because there was no grass! Weeds, dirt, divots, and more make playing here a nightmare. It's a shame because the back 9 is actually a very nice and picturesque layout.
Tees and Greens need attention
Tee boxes are well worn and greens do not roll true.

the greens had just been aerated - sooooo sandy it was crazy. maybe more sand on the greens than in the traps?
i know it's needed, but yikes!! the amount was unplayable

Good value
Many course s innWestport, Fairfield and Norwalk are booked and expensive for non residents. This is good value for the money and you can get on

Pleasantly surprised.
I generally play at a Smith Richardson which is a few miles away because I am a Fairfield resident but on on this day I played the Black corse at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course . I generally play this course every year and most the time it is in pretty poor shape condition wise. I was able to get an 830 teatime on golf now which was a hot deal. The course was fairly quiet that morning and we got to tee off 10 minutes early. It was just me and my brother, and we were able to play through two foursomes. It took us under three hours to play the full 18 holes and I was walking. As my title states I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course. The fairways were longer than most but were green and lush with few bare spots. The greens were in very good shape although they were much slower than I’m used to but that’s just the way it is. The black layout was established back in the 30s by someone who knew what he was doing and I’ve always enjoyed it. It’s not overly long and place is a premium on accuracy. While I prefer Smith Richardson in both the quality of the course and the condition I would not hesitate to go back to the Black course this year. I paid $26 for the round and that is for a non-resident.
