Keep it a Secret
I almost don’t want to review it and let people think it is horrible like some of these other reviews; keep it a secret for me and my buddies. My review is that T36 Golf Baytown is a hidden gem. Tee boxes were on same level as Wildcat, and fairways and greens were better than 95% of courses in Houston area...not quiet on Wildcat level, but close and the greens were pretty smooth without weeds or any dirt patches. Narrow-ish fairways and the rough is rough, but they have put effort into where it really matters…tee boxes, fairways, and greens. The rough is thick and native, so keep it between the lines or else. Unique set up…I can see it being hectic with a full course of golfers, but we had it to ourselves and played in 3.5 hours. 9 shared fairways, but 18 unique tee boxes and greens, so you really are playing 18 unique holes. Off course restaurant isn’t open yet, there is no beverage cart, and no water coolers on the course, so come prepared. The golf carts have GPS and your green fee included range balls. So it is cheaper than you think. Par 68 course with 8 par 3s, 6 par 4s, and 4 par 5s.
Great Experience
First time playing this course was 8/11. Already have another tee time booked for Friday and if for any reason I think I need to update this review, I will. That being said, let's talk about the course.
Pace of play was excellent. They stagger tee times to keep groups from playing on top of each other with it being a double-loop course. Teed off around 12:30 with groups in front and behind me. Never once had to wait to hit nor did I ever have a group catch up with me. Well-spaced out with a 3 hour round total.
Course conditions were good. Fairways and bunkers were great. Green were good but they are a bit bouncy on putts. I'm from the area and to be honest, the Texas heat is hard to keep up with. For the time of year and region, they were pretty good. Speeds were great. Some people have complained on here about the roughs. If you like challenging roughs, these are great.
The staff was very friendly from the moment I walked in to the last second I was in the club house after my round was over. Got a chance to meet a few staff members after the round and was very impressed with how helpful they were in answering questions I had.
Value for the money is extremely high. I have yet to find a course as interesting and well-kept in the Houston area for this price range. Especially if you find a hot deal on golf now like I did.
Course layout was good. I was nervous playing a double-loop course but they did a great job making the front 9 and back 9 play different. If you aren't familiar with this concept, the front and back 9 holes use the same or a partial of the same fairway for each of the 9 holes. Almost all of the holes have their own tee box and green with different distances, hole shapes, and challenges like bunker placement. Was a little confusing on the first two holes but the GPS in the golf cart was a HUGE help in figuring out where I was going and what I should be aiming for. After getting use to using the GPS, the rest of the course was easy to navigate. It is a par 68 so you have a few extra par 3's but overall a challenging course.
When I went it looked like they were renovating the interior. I got to see most of the interior building and it looked like it will be a cool place to eat and enjoy an after round drink. The practice green is big enough to be usable with a small amount of slope. Rolled similar to the actual course which is great. Driving range is interesting with small hills down the left and right side. Good for aiming points.
Hope this helps someone learn about the experience before getting to play it. I would definitely recommend testing this course out if you have the chance.
Not Quite There…
Course is very underdeveloped, fairways are not complete and lots of hard pan sand lies. Greens are very fuzzy and roll with no pace. Making the turn is a nightmare because you are mixed in with those starting their round. If you’re thinking this place plays like the old Evergreen, save your money.
Worth the drive
If you can find a hot deal on golf now you won’t be disappointed. Fairways and greens are in amazing shape
Great practice course
I love playing this course. It’s great for practice and fun with friends. Beware of the mosquitoes.
Great 9 hole course!
If this course was more central to Houston it would be packed! The fairways are the best I’ve played on outside of Highland Pines. The greens are firm and fast which I enjoyed. I would definitely play it again and it’s worth the drive!
Not bad, take mosquito spray
Surprisingly this course was not that bad. Greens were in great shape and super fast but fair. The rough/3rd cut could use some maintenance but it wasn’t terrible. Bunkers were excellent and the par 3s present a decent challenge with having to spin the ball to get it to stop.
FAIR WARNING - Take the strongest mosquito spray they make when you play here or you will have hundreds on you. The bug spray worked well we had to reapply several times.
I will definitely play here again.
Mosquitos
The young lady checking in was super nice, the course had an interesting layout with the dual tees on each hole (got comfortable after a few holes). In general the course itself was in great condition. PROBLEM…MOSQUITOES! I have never experienced an onslaught like that in my entire life! It was insane, causing me to quit after 9 holes. From loading my cart to each hole stop they were swarming. I was saturating bug spray and it had little effect. Sans the mosquitoes this might have been a great experience.
Good course
The tee box and greens are great, fairways also. They could cut the grass around fairways, but overall a decent course. They recently dropped the price, so that’s a plus, and they are putting a restaurant in the building. I think it has great potential!
Con’s:
Mosquitoes!!!!
Rabid mosquitoes
Great track in great condition, the amount of mosquitoes however is criminal.
Insects
Course layout is strange. Most likely would not be problematic if course is empty. But if course if busy it's going to be a problem. Greens and fairways are immaculate.
T36 was good
Fairways and green was excellent. Cart paths were rough and washed-out for a new course. Mosquitoes was absolutely horrible. Almost didn't want to finish playing. They need increase the playing hours have to be off course by 7pm. Hard to play all 18 on a weekday after work. Luckily course wasn't busy and I rushed to finish to all 18.
Nice Course, Mosquito Fest
This is a Fun course & we enjoyed the layout. The Tee boxes, fairways & Greens were in good shape. Carts were clean & ran well.
The only drawback to playing here is the Mutant Mosquito Horde that totally robs you of Golf Joy and blood supply!! Bathing in OFF spray would only temporarily reduce the constant Swarm of Attack Swamp blood suckers. It was the most mosquitoes that I’ve ever witnessed times 10. Can’t go back until my numerous bite welts heal & the vicious skeeters are greatly reduced, along with the price to play here.
Great practice and training course mostly par four and part threes
They need to change the restrictions on the golf course where you can drive them. They shut off as soon as you get off the car path.
Mosquito Heaven
The condition of the tee box, fairways and greens were really good. Decent concept, but still slightly confusing with the split greens. You actually need a bee suite because of all the mosquitos at that location. The only amenity right now are bathrooms. Still a work in progress.
First Time at T36
Haven't been here since it was Evergreen Pt. Enjoyed the play. Took some getting used to finding the green on a couple of holes but not a real problem. Will definitely be back. Nice having golf back in Baytown.
