3rd: par-4, 430. This Cape design tempts you to take the shortest route down the fairway toward the green (on left). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/07/2021

7th, par-3, 220. A well-guarded and contoured green; a pleasant backdrop. Seen here from its left flank. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/07/2021

8th: par-4, 352. Green complex at this short and steeply downhill hole--made perilous by a pond. Eagle potential, however. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/07/2021

The par-4 14th, 447. Long, beautiful, and possibly deadly. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/07/2021

Sixteen is another excellent, long par-4 concluding on this green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/07/2021

18th, par-5 of 588. The signature hole? I’ll go for that. Great bunkering from Mungeam. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/07/2021

CT Golfer
Great course and layout, really good conditions. Generous fairways! Greens putted true, but some very sloping. Will definitely return to play it again and again.
Beware Golf Now-ers!
Total disrespect for golf now puchasers from the moment I walked into the pro shop. ive never been treated like such an outsider in my life! They wouldnt give me a cart for the first 15 minutes after checking in. Had to go back down the hill and haul my gear back up the hill while everyone is wizzing by me in their carts.and by then the tee time was in 5 min. Also random people pull up to the first tee right on top of you, yet their tee time is after you. No starter........the guy inside finally gave me a cart. Loaded my bag, and noticed no scorecard, no cards around, had to go back into pro shop to get one. Could barely knock a few putts around with 2 minutes left. The league players roll up on 10th tee as your hitting talking and laughing and carrying on. i asked them politely to let me hit my tee shot and he called me a dick! Same exact thing happened 3 weeks ago without the verbal abuse when i played there for the first time! Unbelievable level of arrogance at this place from the people that represent it, from the front desk staff to the league guys who seem to rule. Plus the bunkers are all unplayable because they are riddled with rocks and stones and pebbles therefore damaging any forged wedges or clubs. Sad cuz there are hundreds of them. Its all very unfortunate. Only redeeming factor was the 2 fine gentlemen I played with. Lovely chaps
What golf courses in good condition. Lots of bunkers and fescue. It is a position golf course. Length is not a big ffactor. It was a fun golf course to play a good challenge.
Great layout and awesome views
Excellent course. It was my first time playing it. It was in great condition. The layout is challenging but fair. The views from certain holes are gorgeous and I can only imagine what it looks like in the fall when the leaves change color.
It would be helpful if they put some signage at each tee box to indicate what hole you're playing. My group did question each other once or twice about whether we were playing the correct hole. That is just a preference of mine.
I highly recommend it though!
If you play golf in CT...
...then your year is not complete if you don't play Connecticut National!
I drive from central CT, and the ride is awesome. Once you get off of I-84, it's scenic all the way (my drive ended with a two-mile jaunt down a dirt road!).
Stellar practice facilities (all-clubs range, expansive chipping area, and well-maintained putting green near the first tee).
Course itself was immaculate. There is trouble (i.e., fescue) everywhere, but the fairways are pretty wide. Greens are protected, but not overly so. Great par 5s, awesome par 3s, and challenging par 4s. If you bring your A-game you will do well here (and feel good about yourself, too).
Bottom-line: a challenging track that rewards the player who manages his/her game well.
Great Track!
Fantastic layout...beautiful views. Greens are challenging with a lot of slope. Generous fairways...very friendly staff...will definitely be back!
Great value
Simply put. Great fair track with no tricks. No bad holes. Best bang for your buck
Well-Kept Course
It's a far drive from home, but worth the trip! Great, Well-maintained, fair course! Will definitely be back, especially when you can get a deal on the tee time. Fantastic Course!
best in the area
the best course between Hartford and the shore in CT. No ranger on the job and they could have used one. there was a foursome of young guys about four groups ahead of us that had fallen way behind they starting position. i was staying in Westbrook, CT and it was well worth the ride.
nice gem in northeast connecticut
course conditions are quite good for this early in the season especially with the amount of rainy days and limited cutting and maintenance time. only complaint would be the threesome that was inserted in front of us as we approached number 10 tee box. looked like a couple of high school golfers and their coach. held us and the groups behind us 15 minutes but it cleared out some after a couple of holes.
Waiting
Only complaint was that tee times appeared to be too close together. As a senior citizen, waiting on every hole is challenging. My partner and I played in our foursome for over four hours and had to leave for an evening engagement and couldn't complete holes 17 and 18.
That being said, the course is very nice and we hope to play it again some time.
Great golf course
I had a lot of fun there. The course is in excellent condition. I would definetely go back again for another round.
Find it. Play it.
Really glad I gave this course a try. As others had noted, you'll need to gps it ahead of time because it's in the sticks. Choose your route on the busier roads. Some public road signage would be a big help.
The pro was extremely friendly and accommodating. Took time to explain parts of the course to us and offered some options and advice. Pace of play was steady with only a few short waits to play.
The course itself has a really nice layout. It's very scenic with a rustic feel offering a good variety of holes which will test your entire game. We played the blue tees and it was the right choice for us (8-12 hdcp). Don't play the tips unless you're a single digit hdcp. This course is pretty "meaty" . Not the longest, but challenging with the right amount of hazards. The greens are not easy, but roll very true. Be smart about where you leave your misses. Now, the things that I think need to be improved on are the condition of the sand in the bunkers and the areas of rough around the greens. There were a number of spots in the fescue that were just mud and dead leaves. If they clean those up it will make a big difference. Assuming those will be improved as the season goes. My only other minor criticism would be the cart paths need to be smoothed out and marked better. Some of the tee boxes weren't in very good shape. There were only a couple of holes that had tee signs with the hole info on them, so we depended a lot on the range finder. Hole #8 is reachable for a big hitter. It could use a little redesign because there aren't many options on how to play it. Also there's a completely useless giant bunker in front of the tee on #15 that should be closer to the green or just be eliminated.
In conclusion, I'm really looking forward to going back to this course and playing it in the warmer months and possibly again in the fall. It needs a little polishing, but it has the makings of a premium course someday.
Good layout and conditions
Good course and conditions must play a few times to learn layout
