Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club (formerly known as The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford) is one of the most affordable rounds in the area and it has received praise as one of the best golf courses in Connecticut. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for beginners but low handicappers will also find it to be a fun round. The holes are fairly straightforward though there are some fairways that have very narrow landing areas that will test the accuracy of even the best golfers. Numerous bunkers are strategically placed along the undulating greens and water also comes into play on the occasional hole. The golf course starts out gently but becomes progressively more challenging on the back nine. The most memorable hole on the golf course, the par-3 12th, is a water hole that features an intimidating island green.

The course is well maintained with exceptional greens

To play a course at this time of year in Connecticut is special. The course is well maintained and the fairways were cleared of leaves, which in the middle of the fall season is hard to do. The greens were fast and true. Pin placements on this day were set as if you were in tournament play, which I enjoyed tremendously. I would recommend this course for those of you who are looking for a challenging but fair course that has a very good pace of play. The 12th hole island green looks easy enough but I guarantee you'll be talking to yourself once played. I'll be back!

Great conditions, not too long, good value, slowest carts ever.

As for the course it is very well maintained, greens rolled true but not too fast, shortish overall length but a couple of tough Par 4's, rough was penal but this was due to the previous week of rain. Staff was friendly w/out the usual attitude. Food in the grill was excellent and the bartender was great. The only negative concerns the ridiculously slow golf carts that were equipped with governors! Not sure why they are so equipped but the cart had my partner and me laughing on more than a few occasions as it barely putt-putted up inclines. Other than the carts an overall quality experience.

Fun to play but some distractions.

This is a great course with some very challenging holes but you have to put up with the roar of a super highway and you play in a major High Voltage highline right-of-way. This would be one of my favorite courses in Connecticut if it wasn't for the distractions.

Traditionally good

I often make the 25 minute drive to Tradition of Wallingford (with several closer options available) because it is enjoyable to play there. A good layout and pretty consistent conditions are trademarks of this course along with their #12 par 3 island hole. The course is narrow in some areas which requires fairly precise tee shots but as long as you play from the correct tee markers, you should be fine. Also, this place has the absolute best burgers I have ever had anywhere, period. And I've sampled the best from NYC to Los Angeles.

Really Good Value.

First time I played here. I'm sure I'll go back. Overall Fairways and greens in good condition. Don't need to be a long hitter to score well here.
