Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane
About
Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane is situated in the quiet town of Woodbridge, just 20 minutes from New Haven. Formerly known as Oak Lane County Club, the course was both renamed and renovated when it was acquired by the management team at The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford. Many of the holes were updated but the golf course retained its challenging but playable nature. Though the course is player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels, there are still several challenges in store. Numerous strategically placed bunkers lurk along the greens and towering trees also frame most of the holes. The holes are mostly straightforward with a few tricky doglegs to keep you on your toes. You'll also be confronted with the occasional water hole. Both your accuracy and short-game skills will be tested at Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane.

Fun Track
We had a great day, course staff are great, very welcoming and to get you all set up. Very good convenient practice areas with putting greens, chipping and driving range. The course layout is good with fair but difficult green (nice and fast). I would recommend to anyone.
Best public course in CT!
Oak lane is the best public course in the state. They have the best staff, best greens and work the hardest I’ve seen to keep play moving out there. If you haven’t played, check it out
Needs some TLC
I really wanted to like this course but we will not be
coming back. I liked the front nine but holes 12 through 16 are pretty beat up. The sand traps are horrendous.
Testing skill play in quiet and natural environment
I was surprised to find such a nice course within 15 minutes driving distance from New Haven. The course is as described “holes are mostly straightforward with a few tricky doglegs...confronted with the occasional water hole.” It has wide fairways and appears deceptively straightforward, yet it tests accuracy in long drives and short-game skills. The greens are fast and you are advised to place the ball before rather than after the pin for putting ease. It is a pleasure to play amidst nature setting with melodious call of different birds. The carts are equipped gps so the screen display distances accurately. The staff is very friendly and helpful with refreshments being served on the course. Overall it is worth many visits.
Nice course
Great deal. Fair but challenging course. Very fast greens with lots of slope.
Great Day of Golf
Very nice course. Driving range and practice area was also nice. Greens were very fast which made it hard for the average player.
Nice Public Course
Very nice course especially if you never played it. Would recommend.
Early Spring conditions in Late Spring
I play this course fairly regularly, so I am very familiar generally with the course conditions over the years. Traditions at Oak Lane is usually in excellent condition; however, because of the above average rain this Spring 2019, the grounds crew has not been able to keep the course in great condition. The bunkers had tons of water still in them during my round, the fairways were pretty soaked -- and this definitely reduced my enjoyment . Still, I will give the management another chance to get it right. The price, however, should reflect these conditions -- so paying $55 for a wet, cart path-only round wasn't ideal.
THe Tradition Club at Oak Lane
Our foursome completed our round in four hours and ten minutes. The pace of play was good. The greens were the best of any course we played this year. The greens rolled like tour greens and the layout is great except for the first hole which is the starting hole and also the toughest to play and took the longest time to play. The fairways were cut down low and the rough was just a little thick. The staff is very friendly and we stopped in the clubhouse for a bite to eat and a drink. The course has nice ammenities which include a grass driving range, large putting green and a chipping and sand trap practice area. There is even a food and beverage cart girl making several rounds while you play. I would recommend this course to other players and our group will be coming back to play it again.
It's worth a look
The course is doing very well, especially the greens. Got a great deal and due to the weather, no one was on the course that early. They won't let you walk before 2pm which is why I won't go back.
This course never disappoints
Excellent Staff, Greens, driving range.... course is in great shape with on going improvements!
What a day!
I played here Saturday afternoon, it was a beautiful weather day, the course was packed and the greens are unbelievable! We played at a great pace and even saw the Ranger moving groups along. This place is awesome, GPS on the carts and a grass driving range. This will be my new home course.
