Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane
About
Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane is situated in the quiet town of Woodbridge, just 20 minutes from New Haven. Formerly known as Oak Lane County Club, the course was both renamed and renovated when it was acquired by the management team at The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford. Many of the holes were updated but the golf course retained its challenging but playable nature. Though the course is player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels, there are still several challenges in store. Numerous strategically placed bunkers lurk along the greens and towering trees also frame most of the holes. The holes are mostly straightforward with a few tricky doglegs to keep you on your toes. You'll also be confronted with the occasional water hole. Both your accuracy and short-game skills will be tested at Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane.

Course is very pretty - I played in the fall and they need to do a better job with leaves on the course and removal of water on the greens
Course looks very good. Fairways in good shape, scenic, sand in good shape. I played in the fall and I felt that the leaves could have been cleared up better and that water on the greens early in the day could have been managed a bit better. Greens were slow, which was surprising as I had heard differently. I will play again - but earlier in the season.
Nice course to play in the fall.
Well maintained course. Fun to play, but a little slow on the weekends.
Great conditions
The course was in great shape. Not crowded on a brisk fall day. Open fairways and large greens. Will definately be returning. Sorry I hadn't discovered this gem sooner
Great for the money.
Course was I'n good shape all around. Not much waiting around, and for the $35 on golfnow it was a great deal. I'll be back I'n the spring.
Challenging and well kept course
The staff at Oak Lane was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The course was in great shape and is challenging. You don't have much space on either side if the fairway to miss. If you miss way left/right you will most likely be punching out. I will definitely return especially with the deals the post on golf now! Keep up the great work Oak Lane!
Excellent course, great value
My friend and I had a great time at Oak Lane this week. The course was in excellent condition and the layout was challenging yet fair. I have a new favorite public course in the greater New Haven area. I will definitely be back again and I highly recommend playing this great course.
Well maintained couse an club house.
This course was in nice condition , I now know why it's called Oak Lane. I think I hit every oak tree on the course. We had a great day looking forward to going back to Oak Lane again,
not well maintained
bunkers not groomed at all
cups on at least 12 holes had an inch + of water in them from prior evening rain. It was disgusting pulling your ball out of filthy water
Will play this course again
Nice layout. Forgiving fairways and tough greens. Course was in good shape. Driving range had grass and putting greens were simular to the greens on the course. The staff was alright, not great, not bad. I cant really say anything negative. I enjoyed the course and recomend it highly.
Geens were in terrific shape
In generally good shape. Some tee boxes were under repair
Great Course
A Real Joy to play. Large Fairways & large Greens. Some Greens elevated but ALL protected by Sand Bunkers. Course was a real Joy to play. Had 8 pars and 1 bogey. Still shot my average High number. But had fun doing it. With all the wear & tear of the season this course was in great shape.
Interesting Course
Course had a variety of challenges. Pretty course with many different hole layouts.
Conditioning poor
It may be the course has had a lot of play, but the condition of greens and fairways could be better. Greens seem especially bumpy in spots. Fairways balding.
Still it is an interesting course. Worth playing.
Few holes in rough shape
Overall Oak Lane was enjoyable. There were several holes that were in bad shape and under maintenance. But if you get a hot deal then its worth the trip. Before booking I recommend asking proshop staff if greens are aerated...
Course is in very poor condition
Played course in June of 2012 and was very impressed. This time I wondered why it was only $25. The reason it was $25 was the conditions made it almost unplayable. The fairways all have issues, traps very little sand. Greens where the only thing that is in playable condition.
Atmosphere of a Municipal course
I played as a single early on a Friday morning and was paired with three other men who appear to be locals. This was the first time I was playing this course so I was not familiar with the layout. Although my playing partners knew this was the first time I was playing the course, they were not helpful at all. (This is not a criticism of the course, just the people I was playing with). The course overall was in average condition. The greens were, perhaps, the best part of the course. They were relatively fast and ran true. Tees were in average condition, but the fairways need work. Bunkers were hard packed with the sand the consistency of small pebbles, not the type of sand one usually find in bunkers. We played from the White Tees, which, at 6120 yards, was somewhat short for me. There were a couple of interesting holes (the Par 3 Fourth and the Par 5 Ninth, for example), but none that stood out as special. The pace of play was very good, although I believe we were the first group out. The course did not appear crowded. Overall an OK course for the Golf Now price.
Nice layouy, poor condition
Fairways have no grass. It must have been under water or a fungus. Slow play over 5.5 hours to play and no ranger. Greens had hydraulic oil all over them. Who ever cut the greens said no one will notice. Played at a fair price but will never go back again. Took people from out of state to play and believe me they were not impressed.
Usual issues
We knew going in that it would be a long round and it didn't disappoint. We saw a, as in singular, ranger and he claimed to have talked to the groups in front of us but nothing changed. The pace of play here is pretty terrible in general and is one of the reasons we tend not to play here.
Second the crazy weather here has caused some major issues at courses who don't know how to maintain there facilities. There were fairways that have been ruined by mowing in the heat and then over watering because of the rain we have gotten. This is not the first course I have seen this at but was surprised because this course is normally in good shape.
Course needs to be maintained better
I played this course several months ago and it was very challenging and in beautiful condition. Upon returning this month for my second time, I couldn't believe the change. It took almost 51/2 hours to complete 18 holes. We had to wait a long time for each hole and the course was in bad condition.
