Garrisons Lake Golf Club
About
Garrisons Lake Golf Club, nine miles north of Dover, is a historic play centrally located to all parts of Delaware. The course is nature friendly: with tree-lined fairways and large, well bunkered greens throughout. The par-72, 7,060-yard course was recently renovated and improved, and players of all abilities will be confronted with a fair challenge. Not that there aren’t hurdles. Garrisons Lake is book-ended by two long plays: The 535-yard, par-5 first features out of bounds along the left side, and the 536-yard 17th features a challenging tee shot with trees on the right side. Garrisons Lake Golf Club also has a bustling practice range, putting green, golf shop and snack bar.

A real challenging course
Garrison's Lake is an excellent test for the true golfer. The greens were in excellent shape. The holes provided a real test of your golfing skill.
Greens need work
This is typically a great course. But the greens have a fungus from this past summer and hopefully the staff will get it under control.
Average value for the price.
For this time of year the course was in average conditions except the greens. I rate the greens in poor conditions due to the fungus/disease I found on several. Number 18 was the worst of the bunch.
Garrisons Lake Revisited
Went back to Garrisons Lake yesterday. It was probably the closest course open after all the snow in the past month. I had played here years ago driving down from SW Philadelphia and I didn't have a clear recollection of many holes... some of the 4s are a little repetitious but the fives are nice and the back side features a couple stylish 3s. This is a legitimate golf course with plenty of length. Easily walkable though I rode with three very nice guys, whom I met at the course. The shop / clubhouse is Spartan but clean and very well organized. The operation itself is well organized. The pro could not have been any more accommodating. He even walked me out to the putting green to introduce me to the players I'd be with. Pace of play was compromised by the cart paths only (a legit rule this time of year). Fairways and greens (bunkers too) were winterized but in good shape. I didn't have time for eats and I don't believe they were set up for eats yet. It's very early in the season and I wish GLGC best for the 2014 campaign. They are working hard on a course that will come around with the weather but their customer service is a genuine strength. Price was fair and booking was simple.
Great Course
The course was in very good condition. The greens were medium speed. Overall it was very nice. Don't go looking for a fancy club house.
greens should be roughs
while the fairways were in generally good shape ' the greens were poor ; large bare spots. it's ashame, the tree lined fairways make for a great setting.
Easy to Moderate challenge
Course was in decent shape, had a few rough spots and 1 or 2 greens with dry patches but overall not too bad. Decent value for the $. Would recommend if local and/or on a budget.
Excellent course
Nice challenging course with lots of dogleg par 4's. best sand I have seen in a long time. Great stopover course traveling to Ocean City, Maryland. I'll be back
Good course
The course was overall a lot of fun. No difficult forced carries or hazards in the middle of fairways is definitely a bonus for me. Large greens with some interesting breaks made putting a challenge (in a good way). Trees scatter most areas just off the fairways which penalize bad drives but not so much to the point that par is out of the question with a decent pitch-out or (if you have the line) approach to the green.
Greens and fairways in general were well manicured, but at least 2 greens were burnt and hard with little grass around the edges. Most putts rolled true during the day, though.
I'd suggest studying the course map or bringing one with you, as some holes are difficult to figure out from the tee box.
For such a low rate I think we got more than we expected and will definitely make a point of coming back.
greens are bad
The course has been great all year but, the greens have died in the last two weeks. They say its Wet Rot from so much rain and heat.
Course was great but receptionist was not friendly.
Course was challenging and I would recommend it to anyone except that the receptionist at the podium was not friendly at all.
Average Course..greens need to be improved.
Greens were not maintained, lot of dried out patches. Otherwise an average value for the money. Had been to the same place a few months back and it was in an excellent condition.
This was my first time on a course and it was a wonderful experience
Nicely laid out and quite challenging. As this was my first course ever played I was very pleased with the layout of the course and how nice everyone was.
Nice course - always has a good deal to play the course
For an average golfer in this area, this is a really good course, long enough and tough enough,,, course is maintained as good as it can be for a public course, people are mainly responsible for helping out and it seems that most people at this course do so... recommend if you are in the area to try out the course, I recommend it to all my visitors and they always get a good deal and a good challenging game at this course.. :)
Great course
Course is well maintained with a friendly staff. Have been playing here for years and thinking about becoming a member. Just wish they had a real clubhouse.
Good for the money
It's the perfect course if you just want to pull up to the course and play. No scrambling to find the pro shop. The register is right there when you walk up.
The tee boxes and greens were absolutely perfect and the fairways were as good as can be expected because of the rain. It's a challenging course if you are wild with your tee shots as the course is lined with trees, but most approach shots are fairly easy. For the money, I think this is one of the better courses in DE.
If I had to pick on one thing, it would be the people that golf there. It's located in a community and for the most part i think it's the community members who play there. They play extremely slow and are unwilling to let you play through. Other than that, the course is a great value!
Course was in good shape. Can't beat the value. Played it threw golfnow.
The course was empty and the conditions were pretty good. Fairways and greens were in good shape. The rough and bunkers were in so-so shape. Greens were rock hard.
great condition
Course played great - greens in excellent condition. Pace of play was nice. Finished in about 4 hours.
No amenities (restaurant or bar) on site.
Would definitely play again
Challenging round for the money, poor customer service.
The golf course is in decent shape. The greens are slow which takes away from the challenge but they are not bad. However, the very poor customer service is painfully noticeable and sadly it takes away from the experience. I have also noticed a change in the staff the two times I have booked the round through Golfnow.com, I have played the course before at full price and the staff had a different level of attention. I know Golfnow.com is a cheaper way to play golf but I don't want to give up decent treatment while enjoying my only weekly round.
