West at White Pines Golf Course
About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Great staff and good course. Would definitely recommend
Great Local Course with great carts & cartpaths
Enjoyable course and really nice carts with flyover feature to see each hole + new asphalt cart paths were fantastic👏. Some bunkers still need some repair + replace bridge on #15 West Course.
Staff very attentive & friendly.
enjoyable round
price was right for this level of a course. played a little slow due cart path only stipulation. will definitely be back at the rate we played.
Well maintained
First time playing. Course was in excellent shape and well very maintained (save one tee box that was under repair). You could really attack the greens with approach shots. Everything held. Greens were a little slow for my liking, but were constant throughout all 18. Not a very long course, even from the tips. Quite a few doglegs that helped offset some shorter hole distances. Cost for 18+ cart was a solid deal for what the course has to offer and the level of care shown to everything.
Pace of play was very good for a hot Friday morning. All interactions with staff was helpful, friendly and generally excellent throughout the day.
All in all, an excellent experience and I will certainly be playing again.
Needs Attention
Almost every tee box is in bad shape, overgrown weeds everywhere, and last time I was here I ruined the spikes on my shoes because there was asphalt still drying with no sign that I stepped in.
White Pines
We played on a day of an outing, luckily we were able to play the back 9 while they did a shotgun on the front 9. All worked out great!!!
4:15pm, back 9 first
I don't know if it's because the "cheaper" rates started at 4:15pm or what the deal was, but we were behind 6 groups of 4 players that were CRAZY SLOW!!!! There was NO marshal/ranger that was going around in a cart telling people to hurry up or anything. We ended up playing 10-15, skipping 16-18 to go to hole 1, played really quickly (1.25 hours) through the front 9, and then came back at the end of the day to finish up 16 - 18.
I just wish a ranger would have gone around and told some of these groups of 4 to play a scramble. Some of the golfers ahead were hitting an average of 80-100 yards from the tee, then another 80-100 from the second shot, rinse and repeat. The gents even had carts but moving at a snail's pace to find their lost balls.
Trust me, it's not about how old you are (my dad's a lively 85 year old who plays at a solid 16.8) so I'm not trying to shame the old guys. Some of these guys ahead had no thought about how slow they were moving and holding up the traffic behind.
My friend and I finished our round in less than 3 hours (even after going back to 16-18), and the guys originally in front of us were still on the 6th hole.
Last thing I have to say about this place - it's beautiful BUT, players don't rake the bunkers, they don't fill divots, and the greens are pock full of bumps, divots, etc. Hard to play a nicely sloped green that has a bunch of bumps/holes along the way. My friend and I spent more time cleaning up others' messes than we did taking our time to play and putt.
