West at White Pines Golf Course
About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Awesome course!!!
The course has just opened maybe a week ago and considering it was in good shape. The tees with a good Shape the fairways was in good shape and the greens was rolling pure. White pine is a good golf course to play on .great place to bring friends and families 4 outings and tournament play this is a good course.
First Impressions
Spring weather finally arrived today and I wasn’t the only golfer who had realized it. The East course was busy and I knew it would be at least a 4 hour round to make it around the course. From the start the conditions of the course were quite wet and saturated in some areas, maybe a result of some recent rain, but maybe a lack of sufficient drainage. Bunkers were raked but seemed inconsistent with the sand quality in the 3 I found during my round.
A disappointing part of my experience was all of the tree and shrub work that had likely been started the week prior to my visit, but hadn’t been cleaned up. There were piles of branches and derbies present in multiple areas of the rough and near some green surrounds that had been gathered but never picked up. It was a poor maintenance decision to go all out with trimming if a cleanup crew couldn’t remove the debris.
Also not a fan of greens lacking collars and formal approaches.
I got a good price for the round, which included very nice / brand new leased carts, but I can’t say I’m interested in returning.
We appreciate the honest review, we're working hard to ensure prime playing conditions for our golfers despite the rough spring weather. Hope to see you back at White Pines again soon!
Thanks for the 4-star rating. We hope you join us for another round soon!
Rate of Play
I was with a group of 4 and we walked off the course after the 12th hole. We started at 9:10AM and we left at 1:15PM. On pace for a 6.5 hour round of golf. Day was perfect and the course had a nice layout, rate of play was awful.
Great Course/ Super Staff
Course was in pretty good shape since there is no rain. Sand traps could use more sand (yes I was in a few of them) Greens and rough (yes I missed fairways) could be better, but when on the fairways the course was in great shape, greens putted true, just lots of bare spots starting to show but the staff here is a 10, from the club house, starter, cart girls everyone pleasant, professional and helpful
Course needs some work
Played White Pines East yesterday. Unfortunately, got behind a woman's league which was slow. Took 4 1/2 hours to play - on a Tuesday morning, that is not good. Some of the greens need repair. The 12th tee box look like it had been flooded recently, with barely any grass in the area. The cart paths are crushed limestone, and are in dire need of repair. A lot of pot holes. But other than the above, the course is moderately challenging and was in good shape.
Needs maintenance
Course in OK shape, fairways need to be arated.
Carts paths are a disaster
Lot of dead trees.
Needs some overgrown trees to be cut back
Course has gone downhill since playing it 3 years ago.
White Pines
Great course layout and challenging enough for the intermediate golfer . Well maintained fairways and greens . One little complaint , fix the cart path ,to many ruts .
Excellent Course Conditions
White Pines West course itself is in excellent condition. However, for the life of me I can't understand them offering pin placements at the starters check in when there are no placement numbers on the scorecards or the golf carts plus the flags are all the same color. It's impossible to tell where the pin has been placed on the greens without a description of some sort. I questioned this in the pro shop when we were finished and was told there were stickers to put on cards but they just haven't gotten around to putting them on yet. How nice for the golfer!! Also the golf carts could be hosed down and cleaned out better. I went to 3 carts before I found one I didn't have to empty of some sort of trash. These carts were all lined up to be used. If you had to have a windshield up, you'd have a hard time seeing thru it! In addition, the women's restroom at the halfway house could definitely smell better! The cart paths have their usual ton of bumps and holes that could really be filled up with gravel at least. Pace of play was over 5 hours and 20 minutes with no rangers to move golfers along. Very slow and frustrating. It's a shame because apparently the groundskeeper is the only one that knows his job from the excellent condition of the course. Someone in management needs to do a better job of making sure these things are addressed.
path
I just want tobtalk about the cart path on this course. It is bar none the worst I I have ever been on. The potholes literally suk up the entire golf cart not to mention needing a cortisone injection after the round from the bumpy ride. This needs to be adressed.
Long and fun
Great course long the rough was rough but a great run
DANGER! Killer Cart Paths!
Gravel cart paths now feature hundreds of water-filled potholes - dangerous to your spine!
Thanks for the 4-star review! Be sure to book another round with us soon.
