West at White Pines Golf Course
About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Dybo's Take
Playing a round in 4 hrs and 15 min on a,Sunday afternoon was good. Course was under upgrades or changes in prep for warmer weather so there was ground under repair areas not marked or sand piled up in traps awaiting repair or replenishing...all in all we had and enjoyable time and was worth it
Green improvement
Been shooting here 4 years..but for the last couple the greens were in bad shape..looks like they fixed the problem. Although the course was soggy, the greens rolled true..And it looks like the elimination of trees should speed up play.
Great Course for the Money
The course was well maintained for this time of the year. The pace of play allowed me to get into a rhythm with game. I would highly recommend this course to all range of golfers.
gooood times
would have given course conditions 4 to 5 stars except the greens were aerated ----we were advised of this prior to making our tee time. we have played here many a time and always enjoy ourselves. there is a big difference between the 2 nines---the front is much easier than the back but both 9s reward good shots---but on the back 9 you pay a big price with a poor shot.
we hope to be back again soon
Nice place
Course is not bad for the money. Could be a little better taken care of but the staff is wonderful! Pace is usually slow as there is some people who don't know how to play "ready golf" . It is one of the better courses in the area for the money though.
Better Every Round
I've been playing White Pines' East and west courses since 1976. The course has never been better managed. Challenging bunker locations. Lots of trees and water. Interesting sequencing of par 3's. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Great deals at the 19th hole; good food.
Solid
People complained about the gravel cart path, that didn't bother me. 30 min from the city, and $45 this place was a steal. Sure nicer courses out there, but obviously you pay for it. Greens were fine and fairways were not burned out. Seemed like the place was well watered
Do not go there
Horrible course. Bad conditions. Never seen so many dead tree standing.
Poorly managed
As soon as you start there are range balls everywhere should have a bigger net or have workers clean them up cart paths are like driving through huge potholes all the time Fill in with rocks. Place for two water coolers and there is only one and it's empty they don't rope anything about Fairways are in very poor condition . They make a lot of money on outings and other events take care of the course you'll get more people to play
Nice course!
It was my first round here. The staff and ranger were so friendly~ I am 20 to 30 handicapped golfer, played on blue of 6500yds. It's fairly challengeable course! Fairway has some divots un-repaired and green is a bit slow with several ball marks, those are the things to be considered by course management. I want to play again soon!
this course needs work
Still has dead trees everywhere needing removal has been plenty of time to remove all the dead Ash trees knowing full well ash borers were going to take them out. Also tees were terrible condition as well little turf and bumpy to stand on. Fairways could use some overseeding and work to improve as well. This course is old and needs some redoing to bring up to date condition wise for what they charge to play it.
