West at White Pines Golf Course
About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Golfer Reviews
Mediocre Course, Horrible Management
White Pines is a total joke. I golfed with two friends there last week. The driving range was closed, and the manager on duty at the time, Kevin, was extremely rude and disrespectful. He ruined our round.
The course was a little wet from rain that day. We were on the tenth hole, and one of my buddies sliced his drive. The ball landed in an open grassy area to the right of the fairway, short of a pond. We drove the golf cart in the area in search of the ball. Unfortunately, the cart happened to get stuck in the mud. There were 'Out of Bounds' sticks that were difficult to see at the time, and we would have never driven the cart there if we thought we were going to get stuck in the mud.
After getting stuck, I immediately ran to the clubhouse to alert them of what happened and to ask if we could get another cart. The staff in the clubhouse gave me a key to a new cart without hesitation. I rode the new cart back to the area that we got stuck, where my friends had been waiting for me, and didn't realize that Kevin (one of the managers) had been following us the whole way back in a separate cart. When I arrived to the scene, I was laughing at my friend who was still in the cart and stuck in the mud because it was a pretty funny looking scene. Turns out that Kevin was not amused, and did not like the fact that I was laughing. He immediately started yelling at us.
Kevin said that what we did was "idiotic", and it was as "dumb as driving the cart into the nearby pond". He said that if we wanted to continue our round, we would have to WALK THE REST OF THE WAY. He took the new cart away from us, even after I explained to him that it was a complete accident, and that I never saw the OB sticks. Kevin was a perfect example of how NOT to treat your customers. He was on a power trip, and completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun day with my buddies. We had to walk in the light rain the rest of the round.
Overall, the course was mediocre at best (every hole seems like the same 380 yard Par 4), and the service and experience was terrible. I was planning on going there next month for a 16 person golf outing with my coworkers, but after our exchange with Kevin, I will never be returning to White Pines. Thanks Kevin!
Money Pinchers
Had a foursome scheduled for a Hot Deal. Had to drop it to 3. Then found out the foursome was okay and White pines refused to honor the hot deal and made us pay full price. Really uneccessary.
Great place for the price easy to get too off 290
Always like playing white pines, pace of play is good if you dont get stuck behind a foursome. Course is fairly forgiving greens arent that fast on the east course 8th hole par 3 had a good slope on it id say their toughest par 3. Still a great course if you can snag a hot deal.
Nice course
Course was in good condition, greens were great and running true
Great Experiance
Twosome during the week, twilight hours. The course was not busy. Was able to get 15 holes within 2.5 hrs. Look forward to playing their second course next week.
The course ranger was horrible
Our experience was completely ruined by the course ranger literally following us and waiting for us to shoot even though we were a group of 4 and keeping good pace. We also had no one behind us, yet he was stuck on bothering us the whole front 9. Absolutely ridiculous.
Rough start of the year
I have played this course many times. Right now the course needs some work, its early so i am hoping that they are just waiting to make the necessary improvements.
White Pines West
Good conditions for being late in the season. Leaves were not as bad as I expected. Greens a little fuzzy but had a fun time.
cart path ?
it turned to be a nice day we got to white pines and then they told us cart path only why so I called maple meadows about 10 min. away they said just come there where get you on and a great time drive the cart right to my ball so my 10 dollar book fee was on me I guess
Good Course just tough w/ aeration
Course is a great course overall. Playing it mid summer it's much friendlier in terms of green and sand. When there is bad weather or they are preparing for winter, aeration/sand really is tough to deal with thus ruins flow of a round.
Overall great course, but should be cheaper in fall than is.
over rated
narrow fairways that are unfair to the average golfer. no fun and high scores being inside the trees with the drive. no chance to hit the green in two. regular green fees are over priced for a course that you are not going to have any fun playing.
