Good Value
I hadn't played Hawaii Kai in awhile because my last experience a couple years ago was sub-par. The biggest issue here is the dryness and course condition. It definitely has improved, but still needs more love. More water on the fairways and around the green would be a start. Some of the areas surrounding the greens are rock hard and dry dirt.
My only other big complaint is the facility. Fix the ball washers or if not planning on doing that, as least fix the ball washer mounted on the cart. None of the ball washers on the course had water and neither did the one in our cart.... cracked and broken.
All that said, great location, nice staff, and one of the better values on Oahu for a round.
Not good condition
Greens are very poor condition. The bunkers are no sand and rock-hard pan!
Not good course
The worst golf course I've ever played on. The grass on the fairway was basically dead, and the greens were also overgrown. It took five and a half hours to play a round. The guy behind me even hit someone with his tee shot.
Good Fun
Relaxing and fun round with local friends. Course was greener then years past due to the amount or rain they experienced a week before.
Primary rough could have been a bit more friendly, greens a little spotty and inconsistent.
Overall, it was good fun, staff super friendly and accommodating.
Beautiful layout poor greens keeping
This course has some beautiful holes with horrible tee boxes and greens. Fairways are just okay. I won't go back unless I hear it improves. Put some pride in your course. It could be one of the top 5 in Oahu if you addressed these issues.
Do Not Waste Your Money Here
Absolutely not worth the money - paid $165 x2 for essentially a crappy municipal course experience
Positives
1) Easy to reserve on Golf Now
2) Great views
Negatives
1) Staff; largely disengaged/uninterested; wife and I arrived at 7:15 for a 7:44 tee time; asked if coffee was available - got back, “… we could make it.” - then some mumbling and person at the snack bar area wandered off
2) Pro shop bathroom disgusting … needs some serious deep cleaning if not complete remodel
3) Main Issue - Course in very poor condition .. all fairways dry and brown - weeds and crabgrass everywhere - sand traps hard pan sand/dirt
I wouldn’t write this up only for negatives items 1 and 2 - but the course is a wreck - not sure how you can dry out a course in March in Oahu … but this one is … feels like playing the Dyess AFB base course in Abilene, TX
Hawaii Kai, windy as heck
I wanted to play the course and an opportunity arose. I was a little disappointed in the greens as they were a bit bumpy, and rather slow compared to other courses I played on Oahu. However, given the trade winds were 30+ mph, if the greens were lightning fast it would have been unplayable. I enjoyed the course, and 4 hours is a nice pace.
Good Course
it is nice to play here. Pretty moderate course
not too much difficult , not too much easy
relax golfing
Great time
Good course in a beautiful area. Nice people there.
Enjoyable and a beautiful short drive from Waikiki.
Great course in a beautiful part of the island. Some basic holes and a few tough ones. I enjoyed almost every minute of being there from the kind and helpful golf shop to the beer in the cafe after playing.
Mark -10 handicap from Seattle.
Never ever been treated it so bad at golf course pro-shop
We played golf at this course every time when we are in Hawaii. We’ve checked in about an hour early a guy at the pro-shop reminded us that we are very early. We asked for power cart so that we could go practice at the driving range. He refused us to give us power cart and shouted at us saying we paid “hot deal” for green fee that he won’t give us power cart until our start time???????? He was very mean and treat us like a cheap.
This one person I don’t want to name but very rude.
Booking with TeeOff.com so that we could get discounted last min tee times but for his eyes “you are so cheap this is how I’m going to treat you” so shame😡😡😡
