The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Course in poor shape

We have played Maui Nui several times over the past 18 years and the conditions have really gone down hill in past 4. The greens are horrible, the pace of play is slow, the range is closed, the cart break doesn’t work properly.

We won’t be back until conditions improve.

Terrible greens

Well I hate to write a bad review but this course this year deserved it, I’ve played this course several years but not sure what happened this year but worst shape I’ve ever seen it, Greens were terrible pocked up and many with diseased grass..? Bunkers hard red dirt, fairways not much better, driving range has been closed for months, almost looks like the course is not putting in money into it to keep it up..? only thing I can say it was great weather and cheap to play for a Maui course..

Depending on what you pay . . . .

How you rate this course depends on what you paid. We got a great deal ($55) on GolfNow and we were happy. If you paid over $70, I would be a little disappointed. The greens are bumpy and the tee boxes are not that great either. BUT for $55, we were satisfied. Will likely only play this course once during our month long stay.

I have been playing Maui Nui for many years while on vacation on Maui. In the past three to four years it has gotten very tired and worn out .

Great Course in Need of TLC

Played Maui Nui twice while I was in Wailea last week. Originally played it in 1998 when it was in fantastic condition. Not sure what the issues are now, but the course seems way overwatered, including the greens. Many of them were downright soggy, and some of them were just in not very good shape, very slow. Fairways were in very good shape, but just way overwatered. I don’t understand why they do that. Anyhow would recommend the course, but it is a shadow of its former self. Also, the food and beverage facility was never open at any time when I played the course which was very early in the morning. Odd, considering most people like to get a cup of coffee or a quick bite to eat before they play. They did have a cart girl, but by the time she ran into us, we were almost finished with the back nine. They are rebuilding the driving range and putting in Shot Tracer facilities. Should be very nice when they finish it. Also, we arrived very early in the morning. The parking lot was completely dark. There are no lights in the parking lot or near the front of the clubhouse. Just odd…hope they figure it. Not many affordable nice layouts on Maui. This used to be a gem.

Nice layout and views, and decent value

Pros: A good layout, nice views from several holes,

and fairways were in pretty good shape.

Cons: pace of play (we waited at almost every hole), greens were slow, and some patchy parts on the course.

Summary: Relatively good value for Maui and worth a visit. My rounds at Wailea Emerald and Kapalua Plantation were much more memorable but Maui Nui is a fraction of the cost and delivers accordingly.

Not worth the money!

First time playing there; 18 th hole closed, so they figured a small par 3 to make a total of 18 holes. Greens in bad shape and they place the flag where the green is worse on many holes. Sand traps hard like cement! No indications for holes number, no bathroom!

Not impress at all! And they were asking $99!

But got it cheaper with golfnow…a chance!

Playing conditions very poor. Cheap, but even at that it’s not worth it.

Course condition & cart pretty rough

For the money, thought this course would be fine. After coconuts strewn all over the rough, cart GPS that wouldn’t give correct distances, and twisting my ankle on lava luke rocks in the rough.. not so much! The pro shop is nice and looks lime they are refreshing atmosphere with paint & new deck.

I don’t recommend.

My Kingdom for a Sandwich

Four years since I last played the course. In general, the course experience has slipped. Greens not as good, staff less friendly, and there were no sandwiches to purchase from the cart girl between 11:00 and 1:00. Very disappointing.

Construction and Greens

Construction in progress - substitute a par 3 for par 5. Area around club house filled with construction material.

Greens on front nine have significant differences in grass and disease. Back 9 better.

In my opinion it is over-priced at this point. Dunes nearby is in better shape and is priced less.
