Maui Nui Golf Club
About
The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Restrooms on the course are poor (door didn’t close on one). Another is a lone outhouse. Players are urinating on the side of the fairways. Poor distance markers. GPS on carts aren’t always visible when light hits them. Poor signage. Particularly at 18th fairway. Nothing to indicate to golfers new to the course how to get back to the clubhouse.
Overpriced
I know it's golf in Maui but good lord was this course in shambles. Carts were very very old w some add on GPS attached to them the looked like it was from the 80's and wasnt even close to accurate. Had twmp score cards and the layout didnt even match it...lotta par 3s. One at least 6 occasions what the card said was par was obviously wrong.. Exp. Card and GPS would say it was a 520yd par 5 and it would be a 125 yrd par 3 or short par4 or vise versa. Tee boxes were haggard and the greens were very very slow. Don't believe they'd been cut in days. Overall the course was in just very bad shape and I am by no means a snob golfer. My local 36 muni looks like a reaort compared to this dogtrack. $100+ 50 for rental clubs that were old Callaways that weren't even clean & only had 13 sticks in the bag(no high lofted wedge) Asked the guy working @ the cart/club rental area and he said yeah 13 that's all/what u get. I was golfing, it had palm trees and a few ocean views in the distance but layout wasnt that inspiring either. Very small practice green. Driving range closed. Cart girl was making good rounds. The restaurant-bar seemed nice. Didnt get any food but had a nice Jameison on the 19th hole on the patio. Overall the staff was friendly but sorry, this course is absolutely not worth that kind of money. So yeah, I was in Maui & golfing so it was a great day but do yourself a favor and pay the extra 50-100 and play else where. I dropped approx 50 more for TT- Rentals etc 2 dqys prior and played the Wailea Blue course a little south and it was so much nicer that puts this place to shame...
Needs work
Nice location, w view. As a former greenskeeper, I notice basic needs for the property,ie, the tee decks need a rebuild to flatten and even off the playing surface, extremely uneven and lumpy, the greens are slow and many places are bare dirt, disease or neglect. Soft spots in rough from too much water where mowers leave tire ruts and rip up turf.
Radios in carts policy a total nightmare but pro shop said they want the players to 'have fun'. But at the cost of others nearby trying to concentrate on a swing, chip or putt. Dress code, tee shirts, really. What would Arnie do ?
Needs work.
Maui nui nov 21
The golf course is in poor to fair shape. Tee boxes and greens are sub standard, bunkers are hit and miss as are the fairways. The guy in the pro shop was ok and the cart guy was very friendly. I’ve been playing here since it was silver sword and ellaire and I’d guess with the pandemic they were hit hard financially. Hopefully Improvements are being planned. It’s a nice layout and I’ve always enjoyed playing there. At the present the18th hole is being renovated so not in use.
Bozos on grass
Besides the course being modified, 18th hole closed and various bunker, green, area around the clubhouse renos, there was no marshall to monitor the pace of play as well as the bozos blaring radio rap, at least 2 groups with the distracting disrespect for other golf groups within earshod. Also, the bozos ahead of us, didn't rake their mess in bunkers, constant drinking which worsened to shirtless bozos on grass, blaring gang rap, numerous second tee shots, a disasterous round to endure watching such disregard to the course and to the fellow golfers who had to witness such assinine no class morons.
Higher expectations
Fun track.
Unfortunately in suboptimal condition.
2 best holes are out of play at present.
Round was very fast 1st thingi the morning
Keeps beating itself up
Very good for the price, as long as you get a major Hot Deals discount. Their cart GPS doesn’t know what hole it is on, and it’s accuracy is otherwise suspect. The fairways are either bone dry or flooded. The greens run fast or slow, but seldom consistent. The stairs up to the tee box on 15 are unsafe to the point of scary, and the course is only 17 holes (18th green is under construction, which they don’t tell you).
Average at best
I'm not a resort golfer. I don't need a course to be beautiful at every moment. Maui Nui has one thing going for it and one thing only--price. It can be cheap if you score the right deal. Even then you won't feel like you grabbed a bargain. The course is in fair condition with lots of bare spots around the edges, as well as the tee boxes. The greens, at least, are decent even though they roll hugely grain dependent. There are a handful of nice holes, especially coming home, but for the most part it plays like a municipal course. Perhaps the real course is better; they're redoing 18 and have a substitute route at the moment. When it is back to normal, I'll try again. Regarding pace, it took over four hours, which is fairly slow considering how short and easy it is.
In summary, play here if you want to play on the cheap because that's precisely what you'll get. It's not a wow experience by any means, but it's still a day playing golf on Maui.
Course condition
Course was in poor condition for the most part. Greens were bumpy and very grainy. I understand that's part of playing in the islands, but this was bad. Fairways were patchy. For the money they charge there are other courses that are a better deal.
Not bad for the price
Played with my brother in law here and we were satisfied with the conditions for the cost to play in Maui. There was a few places around the course that were rough with dirt where grass should be but overall it was good. The greens were very nice, and rolled very dependant on the grain. If you can’t read the grain you will have a hard time putting
Range is less than desirable.
