Putting on the moon
I have been playing the course for over 30 years. I don't remember ever seeing more ball marks on the greens. We were the 3rd or 4th group out, and there were several "fresh" ball marks on every green. The course is a nice layout, always has been. Deep bunkers, well kept fairways and tee areas, and nice greens except the ball marks were so bad it was hard to put. Such a shame, as it only takes an extra second to repair your mark and one other. Perhaps they should flash reminder messages on the GPS screen when approaching the greens!
Nice layout
Greens were a bit beat up a bit. Play the black tees if your a 20 or less as the maroon tees show you similar shots throughout the day.
Gem of a course with a great online price
Walked 18 yesterday morning for $31 and was pleasantly surprised by Sportsman’s. The course is in great shape and wasn’t overcrowded. Food at the turn was well above average for a halfway shack. Wish they had a grass range. Will definitely be back.
Great course
This is my home course . Great staff very friendly course is always in great shape and pace of play is always good
Great conditions already
Beautiful sunny day, had to play. Staff very friendly. Course surprisingly great shape. Keep up the good work.
Round on a sunny fall day
The course is picturesque and was in good condition. The fairways nice and soft, the greens were a tad slow (I think speed of 8 or 9). We were unfortunately stuck behind a sluggish 4 ball and was a bit frustrating with the wait times else it was। Great round. I say unfortunately cause otherwise the course was almost empty
Nice Course, Bad Greens
Nice course, good value and fun. But the greens were in awful condition.
Perfect
I played golf today. Everything was perfect.
No complaints.
Strongly recommend my friends to play here.
Counter agent was excellent.
Classic yet far from old. Great greens!
Was happy to play Sportsman's for the first time with our golf group. None of them recall playing this course (we're usually in the DuPage county area) and all were very happy with the course in general.
Despite rain the night before, the course drained off extremely well and the greens were running fast and true. In fact, all in our group raved about the greens after the round. For this time of year, you couldn't expect much better.
We thought the course might be short (by the scorecard numbers) and you'll find this at many classic, older courses, but then while playing, we were surprised to find a number of very long and challenging par 4s, all legitimate par 3s that require precision, and a couple of par 5s that challenge your skill if not your power.
It is apparent that where this course may lack in some distance here and there, it definitely makes up for that with appropriate bunker placement and fast, undulating greens. None of our guys avoided every bunker and all of us were finding them more often than we typically do. I find that a credit to a well-though-out design.
I heard staff mentioning that there were course changes coming soon but he didn't mention specifics. I can't imagine what changes they are looking for because nothing really felt out of place or lacking but I can understand why people would like to see an update from time to time.
Whether this existing design or another, we look forward to playing again.
