Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Extremely slow play with no rangers out, course condition was below average with tons of green marks and dead grass, not even close to worth the money to play here

Don’t waste your money

Course is in awful shape and it’s $45 on a weekday. So weekends I couldn’t fathom. No rangers like always and the staff could care less about the pace of play. 4:45 minutes for a 2sum. This course is an absolute joke!!!!!!!

Ranger annoyance

Group in front of us was slow and instead of telling them to skip a hole told us to keep up with pace of play. Cash only drink cart, but nice layout. Bad sand traps, would be softer hitting from cart path and greens were bumpy with parts burnt out.

An OK public course charging elite course fees

I was only able to pay for greens fees online, so when I arrived for my twosome I expected to pay for a cart, which is $18. They made me pay for two carts ($36) and then said that they didn't have enough carts to actually give us two (in violation of COVID rules).

The course was not in good condition. Despite being up on a hill, there was standing water in most of the sand traps, on the tee boxes, in the fairways, and on some of the greens. Despite being so wet, the greens were full of bare spots, weeds, and extremely thin areas, showing that they are just not maintaining it well.

The course is challenging if you cannot hit straight. There is a small amount of rough outside the fairways, and then it quickly converts to chest-high weeds, making it impossible to find any ball not hit on the fairway.

The carts are old, gasoline engine, beat up models with no GPS or any amenities. The cart paths are blacktop that is so broken and settled that your cart hits huge bumps constantly that jar you and spill your drinks. But you must stay on these paths since the fairways are mostly standing water.

This would not be a bad course to play for $20. It has an interesting layout and some nice features. But it is not a $65 course.

Horrible

Upon arrival was charged $18.00 as they said I paid you for walking only. Don’t ever remember a hot deal being walking only. Paying $86.00 for that course is outrageous. Was behind 2 young guys who spend more time talking than playing. Most discourteous golfers ever! I am 82 & my wife is 76. Should never have to wait on anyone. All in all one of our worst days of golf ever! Russell & Mary Ann Feurer

Settlers Hill

Nice track with lots of elevation changes. Only drawback was the holes. Other courses have holes you can putt into. This course and Tanna Farms do not, and this takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Yikes

Tee times were booked solid but was a 5 hr round and the greens and tee boxes were beat to pulp. People.dont take care of this golf course so the constant attempts to repair ball.marks and hitting out of unfixed divots was insane. People are nice and there was a cart girl to save the day but covid has not treated settlers well....

Golf Now- bait and switch

I reserved a tee time for 3 people on golf now. Total price due at course was 139.50 cart included! When I arrived the pro shop said OH NO, NO CART INCLUDED, YOU OWE ANOTHER $55.50 TO RIDE. I showed my receipt from golfnow that says cart included and they said No, take it up with golfnow. There is absolutely no way to contact golfnow. I called and due to covid they do not take calls. I tried to email and it bounces back. Absolutely terrible customer service. Settlers Hill golf course should have honored this reservation and taken it up with golfnow. Feeling very cheated. Steer clear of this course and golfnow.

Unique landscape,, memorable vistas

Some beautiful views. Elevated par 3s. Tough track with suoer high rough which I thought was unnecessarily high For the average golfer.....Even shots a little off the fairway that you should be able to find are gone..

Broken sprinkler flooded a green, cart paths are rough and needed to be repaved 5 years ago. Cmon Kane county, get that one done.

All that said. A fun track, bring extra balls

Cart Not included in Golf Now Rate when told it would be

I was very unhappy when told be the cashier the Golf Now $38 rate for 18 holes and cart did not include the cart. When making my reservation the Golf Now site indicated the rate included a cart. I was charged an additional $18.50 per person for carts. The cashier only stated "this is a problem with Golf Now"

Rough was rough

I have played here a few times and had fun. This time it was very rough fairways were amazing but the rough was like were playing in the british. Lost too many balls in plain sight. They also charge you a cart fee on top of the $38 walking fee which makes this course a bit expensive for what it is.
